403156 tn?1290150018 I know it does not control bipolar because I suffered horrible symptoms before my diagnosis when I was taking Omega 3 already. Just got my diagnosis and added in the bipolar meds!
1053987 tn?1279304510 I take Omega-3 supplements and Vitamin D. For Omega-3, you need to make sure that what you're taking has a high concentration of EPA fats, as these are the ones that will actually help with mood stabilization. Look for capsules that come from fish oil, not flax seed, because flax contains a different type of Omega-3 (ALA). I use a brand called OmegaBrite because my doctor recommended it, actually. Apparently it's one of the best out there to help treat bipolar disorder and depression.
1655526 tn?1330655629 I know that omega 3 is really supposed to be good for the heart, but I get palps after I take them for 3 days, especially krill oil. I've read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time.

Avatar n tn You can not control bipolar disorder on just Omega-3. I have been taking it for years. It is a good suppliment, however, telling people to use it alone is dangerous so I would kindly ask you not to go around telling people to go off their meds and use a suppliment. Especially those of us with severe bipolar. Some people are new to their disorder and unsure. They use this forum to seek answers and if given the wrong information it could lead to a very dangerous situation.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if I can just take an omega-3 supplement, or should I eat all the foods this app is telling to to get it. I'm not much of a fish eater.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar f tn I also heard omega 3 fatty acids might be a good supplement for BP but that the results of the studies on it are mixed and natural remedies aren't FDA regulated like they should be.
601528 tn?1224081498 9-10 grams a day, yes,9-10 grams - and my psychiatrist Dr. A is ok with my megadosing_with omega-3's. If you are skeptical, please look at mypost in the "Alternative" section @ www.bipolarworld.org about Omega-3's. Read Dr. Stoll's excellent book_"The Omega Connection". Nordic Naturals is also based near where I live and their products have an outstanding reputation and are worth the cost.
574118 tn?1305135284 Like one study will say Omega-3 helps people with bipolar concentrate, but another study will say certain levels of Omega-3 are activating. I don't know, it might just depend on the individual just like all the other medicines. Vitimins are still chemicals.

Avatar m tn Recently I heard that taking omega 3 capsules( the transparent one) will increase the risk of prostate cancer. Is there any scientific studies conducted on the subject?
Avatar m tn Quite a complex topic this but at the same time an interesting one. Omega 3 isn't just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints.
317787 tn?1473358451 Hi there! I just found this group and was wondering if anyone had tried Omega 3 supplements. I am trying them now for stiffness in joints, body. I've also read it can help with brain fog or fuzzy thinking.
Avatar n tn well, i have type two and never had a real manic episode (at least not one that has affected my life greatly) but i still do suffer from mood swings (which has caused, so far, at least one major problem). as for the anti depressants, i have major depression so i have took one. i started to take the second one because of a withdrawal episode (long story).
Avatar f tn I can't say, I have read very little about alternative medicines as treatments - I have read a lot about Omega 3 which may help as a supplement but never seen it used as a treatment in full to replace other MS drugs. What does your pdoc say about this? Are you getting therapy? if it was me I would worry that these are halo effect from starting a new drug - to see if any drug is effective you need much more than 2 weeks - depending on diagnosis 2 weeks might be nothing in terms of cycles.
667937 tn?1227758698 I was diagnosed bipolar when i was 14 i am now 35 i was on medications but stopped them in December taking other means of herbs and stuff (5-HTP fish oil omega 3) and others. I stopped the fish oil about a little over a week ago because of belching a fishy taste. Could that be why i am becoming depressed or do you think it could be something else? I have had no episodes of depression the whole time i have been on herbals. Until now after stopping the fish oil.

4274823 tn?1388529098 Thanks for the list. I avoid soy and flax due to a health issue. I do eat pumpkin seeds and walnuts as well as plenty of vegetables and fruit. Interesting about papaya. Ideally I would like to get it from food rather than have to purchase an expensive supplement that I don't feel 100% comfortable with.
