Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 benefits triglycerides

omega-3

Avatar m tn Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding. Experts do agree on one thing, take omega 3 acids from foods rather than supplements. Without a doubt, having enough Omega 3 acids in your diet does improve health.
Avatar m tn Oh! I forgot, you would not burp the fish oil if you take the pill each time you eat something or after every meal, I have never had a problem with it.

Avatar n tn I take the Omega Q Plus by Dr. Sinatra. Had not been consistent with it daily as I am now after I got my Cholesterol checked. My Low density was down and my Hds were up and tris were almost 200 below what they had been in years. I was elated over the tri report because it had been in the 400's in the past. Everything else checked out perfect. I will continue to take Omega 3 plus for another 3 months, and have it checked again.

Avatar f tn I have been on Cholesterol lowering medicine for years, but recently my Triglycerides went up significantly. My doctor suggested taking Omega 3 Fish Oil tablets (1000 mg 2 times per day). In 4 weeks my Triglyceride level went from 254 to 165. Try the ones that guarantee no Fish taste. This works.
Avatar m tn An Italian study found there was a 45% decrease in sudden cardiac death in patients who suffered a heart attack when taking 3 omega pills a day plus a baby aspirin. What they found was that aspirin enhances the effects of omega, in that instead of 6 pills a day to get the required amount, you only need to take 3. In Europe there are new studies starting which will evaluate the effects of aspirin because this drug doesn't seem to be having the desired effect.
Avatar f tn He takes prescription, because over the counter is actually only 300 mg of omega 3 fat. He takes this with correg. They help improve his heart's ejection fraction.
Avatar m tn Is that unusual to have high triglycerides? How can I reduce them naturally? Niacin, Omega-3s, soy, iodine to improve thyroid function?????
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
Avatar n tn I am on Synthoid, Metformin and Lovaza (basic Omega-3 acid to help lower triglycerides.) If the medication does not lower my level, should I ask the doctor to look at other underlining causes?
Avatar n tn When my triglycerides were elevated, the doctor ordered me to take omega 3 fish oil supplements… I asked for how long, and his response was for life.
Avatar n tn Fish oils can be obtained from eating fish or by taking supplements. Fish that are especially rich in the beneficial oils known as omega-3 fatty acids include mackerel, tuna, salmon, sturgeon, mullet, bluefish, anchovy, sardines, herring, trout, and menhaden. They provide about 1 gram of omega-3 fatty acids in about 3.5 ounces of fish. Fish oil supplements are usually made from mackerel, herring, tuna, halibut, salmon, cod liver, whale blubber, or seal blubber.
Avatar m tn Most everyone knows or has heard about omega-3. The omega that many haven't heard about but that is very important to your health is omega-6. While omega-6 isn't bad in and of itself, what's bad about omega-6 is that Americans get too much of it. Having too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 in your diet leads to many diseases. To avoid these diseases, you must keep these two very important essential fatty acids in balance or the right ratio.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar n tn That could make a difference. Good news is chocolate especially dark chocolate raises HDL along with Omega 3. Buy omega 3 eggs and salmon is very good at raising HDL.
Avatar f tn I have blockage and am taking so many pills that this sounded good to cut the number of pills I take. I bought 3 bottles of the Omega Q plus and will start taking when I run out of my other (about 2 weeks) will let you know what I come up with. 1291107 tn?1272202031 Fat and oils are technically triglycerides. Triglycerides are composed of individual molecules called fatty acids. Each triglycerides molecule consists of three fatty acids. There are three categories of fatty acids: saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. All oils and fats consist of a mixture of these categories of fatty acids. A high intake of saturated fat can increase the amount of cholesterol produced in the liver and therefore the amount in the blood.
Avatar n tn My blood pressure med Nadolol (generic Corgard) raises Triglycerides and lowers good cholesterol! Ask for Lovaza it is omega 3. I take 2grams twice a day. Thats 2000mg twice a day. It raises HDL Happy cholesterol. It lowers LDL Lowsey cholesterol, and Triglycerides.
Avatar m tn Well aerobic exercise, losing weight, avoiding saturated fats and taking mono-unsaturated fats helps raise HDL levels. Other than this omega-3 fatty acid supplements and niacin can also help raise the HDL levels but ask your doctor before starting this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn HDL reacts well to Omega 3 fatty acids which can be found in fish, mostly cold water fish like Salmon. You can also take it in a supplement but first make sure you run it past your doctor. If he OK's Omega 3's look for one high in EPA and DHA, you want a total of 600 mg a day. Also, ask your doctor about exercise because exercise will increase HDL very quickly as well, but make sure you get it cleared by your doctor first. I hope this helps!
Avatar m tn I think it would be wiser to buy capsules because some fish (thanks to environment poisoning) can contain methylmercury and other chemicals. The label on the packaging will state what forms of omega 3 supplements are contained in the capsules. Erijon has far more knowledge on this and I don't wish to tread on his toes here, and I'm sure he will have plenty to add.
