Omega 3 benefits to health

Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 benefits to health

omega-3

Avatar m tn Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding. Experts do agree on one thing, take omega 3 acids from foods rather than supplements. Without a doubt, having enough Omega 3 acids in your diet does improve health.
Avatar m tn Most everyone knows or has heard about omega-3. The omega that many haven't heard about but that is very important to your health is omega-6. While omega-6 isn't bad in and of itself, what's bad about omega-6 is that Americans get too much of it. Having too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 in your diet leads to many diseases. To avoid these diseases, you must keep these two very important essential fatty acids in balance or the right ratio.
Avatar m tn The benefits of the omega-3s to your heart, arteries, brain, and digestive system are simply too numerous to name. And since moms are routinely told to steer clear of eating omega-3 rich fish and seafood during pregnancy, why not encourage them to take more supplements? DR.D.
Avatar n tn I am presently taking Zetia every other day. I also take Omega 3/6, vitamin A,E. With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia? Many thanks.
Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!

Avatar m tn Oh! I forgot, you would not burp the fish oil if you take the pill each time you eat something or after every meal, I have never had a problem with it.

518994 tn?1212242047 There are various vitamin-mineral supplements available that contain this or you could just add a little (~1/2 teaspoon) extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals. The first quartile was very low in omega-3 fatty acids; the second quartile was higher in omega-3s, etc. The researchers found that the men in the second-lowest quartile had a 45 percent lower risk of sudden cardiac death compared with those in the lowest quartile, and those in the second highest quartile had a 72 percent lower risk of death.
1655526 tn?1330655629 ve read in this forum that others have also had adverse reactions to taking this supplement. So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time. Now I don't dare take it even after my ablation for SVT because I don't want the other arrythmias.
Avatar f tn Both are essential fatty acids but you want more Omega 3 than Omega 6. Avoid processed seed and vegetable oils high in Omega-6 such as sunflower, corn, soybean and cottonseed oils. The types of omega-3s called DHA and EPA, have the strongest health benefits. The best food source of both DHA and EPA is cold water fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, mackeral, tuna. You can also take Omega 3 supplements.
Avatar f tn I have been reading a lot online about mast cell tumors, how to treat them, etc. I have decided to change my dogs diet to the Canine Cancer Diet... low carb, high fat, high protein, homecooked. Avatar f tn In general, omega-3 fish oils have been shown to have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health so I wonder if you have some sort of special situation that would cause your internist to recommend against it. Please contact him to find out why. The more research I do about omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil, the more I realize that while they can have some exciting benefits (especially fish oil), they are not for everyone.

603543 tn?1255294450 Hats off to those in which responded to Omega 3, but I know way to many sufferers (myself included) That found it to be completly non-effective. 1319721 tn?1276040968 This is a common misconception. Both fish oil and krill oil contain Omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids have been shown to possibly reduce the risk of heart disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration stopped just short of stating that Omega 3 fatty acids conclusively reduced the risk of heart disease. It was enough though, to fuel a craze about fish oil. Studies would go on to find that the Omega 3 fatty acids had other benefits than just cardio.
