Omega 3 benefits on the brain

Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 benefits on the brain

omega-3

Avatar m tn Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding. Experts do agree on one thing, take omega 3 acids from foods rather than supplements. Without a doubt, having enough Omega 3 acids in your diet does improve health.
Avatar m tn t take this opportunity to get moms to start popping more fish oil pills. The benefits of the omega-3s to your heart, arteries, brain, and digestive system are simply too numerous to name. And since moms are routinely told to steer clear of eating omega-3 rich fish and seafood during pregnancy, why not encourage them to take more supplements? DR.D.
Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.

403156 tn?1290150018 ALWAYS take the prescription meds. Omega 3 or 6 is awsome for brain boosting and great for the heart too. Been taking it for years. I know it does not control bipolar because I suffered horrible symptoms before my diagnosis when I was taking Omega 3 already. Just got my diagnosis and added in the bipolar meds!
671251 tn?1236116671 Thanks for all the comments, ladies. I also read somewhere that the breastfed baby continues to get the omega 3 fatty acids through the mother's milk, so it is important to continue eating it while nursing too. Swampy, your recipe sounds wonderful. Thanks!
Avatar f tn DHA AS A BRAIN FOOD Fats make up sixty percent of the brain and the nerves that run every system in the body. So, it stands to reason that the better the fat in the diet, the better the brain. So, with all the fat eaten by the average American, why don't we have more geniuses in this country? The average American brain is getting enough fat, but it's not getting the right kind of fat.
Avatar m tn In fact, the University of Maryland has a complete reference page about the benefits of omega-3s that verifies the statements made by Diamond Food. Sixty-five different scientific studies are cited on that reference page alone! 317787 tn?1473358451 Hi there! I just found this group and was wondering if anyone had tried Omega 3 supplements. I am trying them now for stiffness in joints, body. I've also read it can help with brain fog or fuzzy thinking.
Avatar m tn Most everyone knows or has heard about omega-3. The omega that many haven't heard about but that is very important to your health is omega-6. While omega-6 isn't bad in and of itself, what's bad about omega-6 is that Americans get too much of it. Having too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 in your diet leads to many diseases. To avoid these diseases, you must keep these two very important essential fatty acids in balance or the right ratio.
Avatar f tn My prenatals as most fo already have the omega 3 in them so I splurge on a tuna melt or 2 maybe once a month or every 3 weeks. I still dont eat it often due to the fact I know there is mercury content, but the omega 3 benefits outweigh that or so they believe. So I just splurge here and there but LIGHT tuna only!!

Avatar m tn Each quartile corresponded to the level of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood. The first quartile was very low in omega-3 fatty acids; the second quartile was higher in omega-3s, etc. The researchers found that the men in the second-lowest quartile had a 45 percent lower risk of sudden cardiac death compared with those in the lowest quartile, and those in the second highest quartile had a 72 percent lower risk of death.
Avatar m tn I just follow the dose on bottle I got from gnc store but try to find one with lemon in it cause you burp and it lemony without it the taste is very fishy
Avatar n tn My OB (and all the medical studies I have read) have indicated that yes, the Omega's are VERY benneficial to the developing baby. You should start them before you conceive. The Omega Fatty Acids are what help develope the baby's brain. Folic Acid of course is another big benefit, and you should start that before conceiving also. Continue both throughout the pregnancy. Many women continue while nursing also, because it will continue to benefit the baby.
1655526 tn?1330655629 So I wanted to put this poll out to see how omega 3 affects you. The first time I suspected krill oil, which is supposed to be the best omega 3, I used the process of elimination. Still not believing it I did it a second and third time. Now I don't dare take it even after my ablation for SVT because I don't want the other arrythmias.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies have any of you gotten a Dr's advice on best source of omega 3 for baby's brain development? I was told that ground flaxseed is best but other literature says that fish oil is better as it has the DHA property. Any advice???
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
1042487 tn?1275279899 I started to have those terrible brain zaps, brain shivers about 2 days off the med (yes i quit cold turkey, the only thing that bothers me are the brain zaps). I started 5-HTP to ease them a bit. Can anyone tell me how long they had there brain zaps. Funny thing is I would normally answer this question myself and say brain zaps generally last for 2 weeks but I want to hear about people's experiences.
703362 tn?1427766328 I love those eggs with the Omega. Whenever they are on sale or I have a coupon I get those for sure! Msniki: Good going! That's a wonderful breakfast. Got your protein in. And the watermelon is super tasty and mostly made of water. Excellent choice! Keynote: I used to work on a dairy goat farm as a teen and they also had many chickens. One of my favorite perks was the fresh goats' milk and the farm fresh eggs.
1319721 tn?1276040968 It was enough though, to fuel a craze about fish oil. Studies would go on to find that the Omega 3 fatty acids had other benefits than just cardio. After the initial fish oil craze, krill oil benefits began to emerge. Krill oil had actually been studied over twenty years ago. These studies and more would begin to show that krill oil was much more beneficial for your health than fish oil.
917167 tn?1330255938 Dennis Embry (CEO/Founder PAXIS institute in AZ) talked about taking an Omega 3 supplement especially as a mental health or substance abuse patient because it has shown to restore dopamine receptors in the brain. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone out there swear by them? I have been taking them for roughly two weeks, but of course I wouldn't be feeling better today.....bad bad bad. It's you all on here who are keeping me from cracking under the pain.
