612551 tn?1450022175 The Fox News doctor who is on the Sunday shows (maybe other, Rosenberg or something like that) is a cardiologist and a big advocate of Omega 3 supplements, and my son who is a Resident in anesthesiology believes in Omega 3 supplements. I don't have any bruising problems.
Avatar f tn He asked me what is different now than before - meds, supplements, diet - only thing different is she was taking flax seed oil caps as well as Omega 3 caps; now just Omega 3. Should I start her back on the Flax Seed Oil? Doc didn't know....
Avatar f tn According to some studies, fish oil supplements may elevate the international normalised ratio (INR) of people taking warfarin. and may provide additional anticoagulamt effect. Fish oil, an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, may affect platelet aggregation and/or vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors. The exact mechanism of interaction is unknown and further tests may need to be done.
Avatar f tn Take multivitamin( consistent vitamin K), multimineral, protein, Omega 3 fatty acids and calcium supplements. Good nutrition and physiotherapy along with speech therapy may improve the quality of your life amazingly. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn Thanks for the input. And you are right, passing it by the doctor is smart!
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn My father has two small blood clots in his leg below the knee. He can not take Coumadin well and had reactions after several weeks twenty years ago, and now we have been trying alternative therapies with an alternative doctor who is also an MD. We have choses Nattokinase to reduce fribrin which can help dissolve the clots according to European and Asian research, and high Omega 3's which help thin the blood.

518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar m tn Dear Ripz: I had an ablation July 19,2010 and the doc wanted me on warfarin for 3 months.. I am 68 and and very healty and active... I asked him why three months and he said as far as he was concerned there is no need to take a risk. He thinks one can pretty well tell if the ablation is going to be successful after three months. The three months passed fast.... and my ablation seems to be working really good... no afib, no pvcs nothing but a real regular heart rate.. its great.
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar n tn She has been on warfarin and monitors it regularly. She also has past history endometriosis and has always had heavy periods and problems with her periods. She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more.
Avatar f tn They are essentially harmless. Taking aspirin, ibuprofen or mega-doses of omega-3 can make you more likely to have small bleeds. If you take warfarin, you might consider getting your INR checked to ensure it is not too high. It never hurts to get checked, but I wouldn't rush to the emergency for this problem.
Avatar n tn My husband has severe dry eyes, and has started taking omega 3 and flax seed oil. It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
Avatar m tn You should also take 1000 mg a day of omega-3 fish oil, and a nice baby aspirin. You could tolerate a full aspirin, if it does not cause stomach upset. Also consult with your physician about the taking of magnesium glycinate supplement, which sometimes resolves atrial fibrilation.
Avatar m tn Higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, the active components in omega-3s, can also be found in LOVAZA — the first and only prescription omega-3 medication. It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Therefore, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions that some people should limit the amount of certain types of fish they eat.
770426 tn?1235061489 I started taking Warfarin 3 weeks ago after my PVI ablation. Since my first dose, I've been experiencing headaches almost every day. I rarely get headaches (maybe one or two a year) so it is significant to have them every day. A few weeks ago the headaches were on and off but it has been constant since last Friday and seems to be getting worse. I've been trying to ignore it but it is starting to affect my productivity. Did anyone else experience these headaches while on Warfarin?
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
