omega-3

Avatar f tn If you research it, they are the best source for non-fish Omega-3, even better than walnuts (and less fattening).
907968 tn?1292622204 peanuts are a fantastic food, but in actual fact, peanuts are not really nuts. I believe they are a member of the pea/bean family. I don't think they contain omega-3 but they contain a high level of omega-6 which is the lower of the omega's in fish but more important for blood vessels. There has been lots of research on peanuts and results have shown that they greatly reduce the risk of cardiac disease. They have other benefits too, it has been shown they reduce the risk of colon cancer.
12584065 tn?1436320514 I may not take a supplement after all until talking to my doctor - apparently you can get all you need from walnuts among other nuts, and I have walnuts every morning in my breakfast yogurt and I eat fish about once a week. Might still be a good idea though.
Avatar m tn , a large producer of nuts and nut products, had put some information on its website about the health benefits of walnuts (which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids).
Avatar f tn He advised that walnuts and flaxseed are an excellent source and contain more omega 3 than eating fish (unless you eat fish daily). All you need is a 1/4 cup of each every other day. He told me the less you take during pregnancy the better. I also have to supplement Calcium as I am lactose intolerant. Suggested that I am better off to find foods that carry the same vitamins as your body absorbs them better. Much cheaper than taking a supplement.
Avatar f tn any thing with Omega-3 in it
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar n tn Walnuts are safe to eat as long as you're not allergic to them. They're high in (good) fat. I find walnuts easily go rancid. I source my supply, buy them in bulk and keep the walnuts in the freezer, except for a jarful or so, which I keep in the fridge. The one problem with them is that when they're good, I can't stop eating them. I'm not sure why you're associating your weight loss with HCV. Did your doctor say there's a connection?
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
3060903 tn?1398565123 pasta), low fat and substitute dairy products (1% milk, low fat/fat free yogurts, low fat soy milk/soy yogurt), use plant oils, non trans-fat margarines, and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and increase daily high fiber breads and cereals (oatmeal). Hoped this helped you.
Avatar f tn t like salmon, sardines or trout, walnuts, hazelnuts or cashews are good alternatives. Omega-3 supplements are also available in capsule form. Many are of high quality, but less expensive supplements may be ineffective and contain contaminants. Avoid choosing your supplements based on price alone. Avoid coffee and sugar-laden soft drinks that can cause nervousness and interfere with the ability to focus.
Avatar m tn Avoid empty carbs like sugars, pasta and breads. Also, ask your doctor about starting Omega 3 fatty acids like fish oil and while you're at it as about an exercise program that is right for you. Again, your numbers are a little high, but certainly not bad enough for meds. I calculate your Tri's somewhere around 75 which is also very good. So just eat right and exercise and you should be fine. Congrats on the numbers.
Avatar n tn When you’re on the run, try combining your healthy snack foods to enjoy vital omega 3s and antioxidants in one go. A grab-bag of walnuts, blueberries, and grapes packs a powerful punch. A don’t forget to wash it down with some antioxidant-rich green tea. You can’t beat broccoli and grass-fed beef for dinner… or spinach and wild salmon… for a powerful combination of health benefits.
Avatar n tn Eating the right foods literally feeds your joints and keeps them strong and flexible. Foods like fish and walnuts or almonds contain essential fatty acids that lubricate. Unless you eat fatty fish like salmon or sardines on most days, you're not getting enough omega-3 fats-or their anti-inflammatory benefits. You want to get two specific omega-3s in particular: EPA and DHA. The best source for both is fish oil. Aim for 1,000-3,000 mg total DHA and EPA.
Avatar n tn Good Fats vs. Bad Fats Basically, there are two groups of fats: saturated and unsaturated. Within each group are several more types of fats. Let's start with the good guys -- the unsaturated fats. Unsaturated fats include polyunsaturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fats. Both mono- and polyunsaturated fats, when eaten in moderation and used to replace saturated or trans fats, can help lower cholesterol levels and reduce your risk of heart disease.
Avatar m tn The role of fats in heart disease is an evolving opinion, but certainly most research hospitals suggest polyunsaturated fats are much healthier and in fact a necessary component to most people's diet. Omega 3 and 6 fish oils, for example, are prescribed universally to people with Cardiac Artery Disease, and fish oil is certainly a Poly oil. I haven't a clue about cashews, I'm a Hazelnut (Filbert) fan myself. They are delicious in salads.
907968 tn?1292622204 I eat lots of chocolate every day, cheese, drink full fat milk, and have 3 sugars in every cup of tea of which I drink lots. I guess I'm just lucky with the way statins do all the work for me. The only thing I dont eat is red meat, Ive never really liked red meat anyway. I have such a sweet tooth, that's my problem, I'm surprised I don't overload my pancreas. I love my cakes and sweet buns/ biscuits (cookies).
1655526 tn?1330655629 So im not crazy after all.. I have told doctors and other people that fish and omega 3 bother my arrthymia. Noone believed me but I know what happens and it isnt pretty. 518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
