Avatar f tn 90 percent of UTI’s are from E. coli. D’Mannose attaches to E. coli in the urinary tract and takes it with it when you urinate. When I have a UTI I take one pill at least every 2 hours for about a week instead of having to take antibiotics nonstop. That doesn’t treat the cause, but deals with the infection part. Now, for the diagnosis. Have you looked into interstitial cystitis? It is a possibility.
Avatar n tn Feed the cat foods that are very low in ash content to prevent crystals from forming, which irritate the urinary tract and lead to the infections. Other than that, once an infection has started, the only way to get rid of it is to use an antibiotic prescribed by a veterinarian. You said that your kitty gets these on a regular basis. Has the vet prescribed the same antibiotic each time she has had it?
Avatar f tn How do you tell the difference between a urinary tract infection and yeast infectiy?
Avatar f tn Making a diagnosis of a urinary tract infection includes performing a urinalysis test, which checks for the presence of pus, white blood cells, and bacteria in the urine, which point to a urinary tract infection. A urine culture and sensitivity is usually performed to find the exact microorganism that is causing the infection and to determine the most effective antibiotic to treat it.
Avatar f tn Fever may accompany most infections including infection of the urinary tract. However, if fever is present a kidney ( upper urinary tract) infection needs to be ruled out. Any other associated symptoms like nausea and vomiting?
Avatar n tn Crystals can be dangerous in male dogs because if they become large enough they can become lodged in the urethra and cause blockage (even in dogs, though more common in male cats). Most urinary tract infections do not involve crystals and can be successfully treated with antibiotics.
1415174 tn?1453243103 More women than men tend to get urinary tract infections especially in menopause. Men and women get more infections when they get older or hospitalized. You can just say yes ( you get a urinary tract infection) 2. no, rare 3. frequently. Are you male or female? Are you in menopause (if female)?
Avatar n tn itchiness is usually yeast, but the burning could be a urinary tract infection. is the burning internal or external???
Avatar n tn But, with recurring scar tissue every 3 months or so since my January 2007 surgery and constant tract infections, I have not felt well for almost two years. Is there a way to ward off the infections without antibiotics all of the time? What can I watch for? I have read that the scarring eventually will end, but being under anesthesia every 3 months is not a prospect that has helped my mental well-being. Any observations would be welcome.

306259 tn?1204769475 fatigue, shooting pains, some loss of sensation on right side, stomach issues, reflux, tachycardia, bradycardia, random low-grade fevers, dizziness, headache, heat intolerance, feeling like low sugar events Since the end of August, she has had a urinary tract infection, then a yeast infection, then a severe respiratory infection, and then swollen glands and a throat issue. Is this something (so many infections) that is common in patients with POTS and Autonomic Neuropathy?
Avatar n tn I have been to the doctor several times with urinary tract infections. I was hospitalized a year ago with kidney stones, kidney infection, urinary tract infection, and an infected gallbladder that had to be extracted. I cannot seem to get rid of the urinary tract infections as I have had treatment 7 times now within one year. I drink the pure cranberry juice as I have heard it helps fight off and prevent UTI's. Nothing seems to work.
Avatar m tn My questions are is there such a thing as a hypersensitive urinary tract and prostate? And 2. What can be done to improve this. A certain vitamin or mineral? Saw Palmetto? Lots of Vitamin D? I am low on Vit. D and for sure, my hormone level is low according to recent tests. Thanks so much.

Avatar n tn The cranberry supplement (like Cran Assure capsules) help to keep solids in the urinary tract from adhering to the bladder and urethra walls; which means the pain and irritation is greatly reduced. The cranberry supplements won't cure an underlying infection, but really do help with the pain and irritation factor, which means that the dog won't feel he has to urinate immediately in inappropriate places. I somewhat agree with your vet.
Avatar f tn Hi Pain during intercourse is common in uterine didelphys. The development of urinary and genital tract is interdependent. Malformation of one can be associated with that of the other. Hence you must get an intravenous pyelography to see your urinary tract or an ultrasound or a MRI of abdomen and pelvis. Frequent infection can be due to malformation too. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar f tn I just had a cystoscopy for a ureteral stent implant and a foley catheter put in on 04-Sept-2010. My Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL rock-shock) on 02-Sept-2010 didn't work on a 5x9 ureteral stone causing colic. The cysto was quite mutilating (I'm sure superficially), it left me with a very irritating blood squirting cath setup (19 French), but with the anotomical difference of the male urethra I'm sure that's very common.
Avatar n tn Women who are sexually active, who use diaphragms for birth control, and/or are past menopause are at an increased risk for urinary tract infections. Making a diagnosis of a urinary tract infection includes performing a urinalysis test, which checks for the presence of pus, white blood cells, and bacteria in the urine, which point to a urinary tract infection.
