Avatar n tn I am on Synthoid, Metformin and Lovaza (basic Omega-3 acid to help lower triglycerides.) If the medication does not lower my level, should I ask the doctor to look at other underlining causes?
Avatar n tn When my triglycerides were elevated, the doctor ordered me to take omega 3 fish oil supplements… I asked for how long, and his response was for life.
Avatar f tn I have been on Cholesterol lowering medicine for years, but recently my Triglycerides went up significantly. My doctor suggested taking Omega 3 Fish Oil tablets (1000 mg 2 times per day). In 4 weeks my Triglyceride level went from 254 to 165. Try the ones that guarantee no Fish taste. This works.
3060903 tn?1398565123 It is recommended you consume a moderate fat diet to lower cholesterol and triglycerides. A moderate fat diet means using polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
720228 tn?1530911279 How much omega 3, 6, 9? just had my cholestrol checked and it was 255. I am also starting prevastation. I know that you can not be pregnant while on this medication but if you happen to become pregnant while taking it I know to stop it immediately. What if any are the risks of taking this medication during the first two to three weeks of pregnancy since it takes that long to find out that you are pregnant?
Avatar m tn Is that unusual to have high triglycerides? How can I reduce them naturally? Niacin, Omega-3s, soy, iodine to improve thyroid function?????
Avatar n tn I take the Omega Q Plus by Dr. Sinatra. Had not been consistent with it daily as I am now after I got my Cholesterol checked. My Low density was down and my Hds were up and tris were almost 200 below what they had been in years. I was elated over the tri report because it had been in the 400's in the past. Everything else checked out perfect. I will continue to take Omega 3 plus for another 3 months, and have it checked again.
Avatar m tn I am taking Nature Made Fish Oil 1200 mg, I take 3 pills a day and it is working perfectly, I can even jog 1.5 miles a day with no problems at all.
Avatar n tn Possibly effective for high blood pressure- Fish oil seems to produce modest reductions in blood pressure in people with high blood pressure. The omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil seem to be able to expand blood vessels, and this brings blood pressure down.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar n tn That could make a difference. Good news is chocolate especially dark chocolate raises HDL along with Omega 3. Buy omega 3 eggs and salmon is very good at raising HDL.
Avatar m tn My Triglycerides however, have gone from 195 in 2009 to 325 in July 2012. I have added Omega-3 Fish Oil vitamin in the morning, and changed my diet somewhat. I am not eating as much fat, added Fiber, fruits, and some daily veggies (Spinach, Carrots, Cucumber, Peppers) into my diet as a salad every night. I am not using fatty dressing but Balsamic Vinegar and fresh lemon as dressing. Also changed to whole wheat carbs (bread, pasta, etc.). I never have been big on sweets.
Avatar n tn My blood pressure med Nadolol (generic Corgard) raises Triglycerides and lowers good cholesterol! Ask for Lovaza it is omega 3. I take 2grams twice a day. Thats 2000mg twice a day. It raises HDL Happy cholesterol. It lowers LDL Lowsey cholesterol, and Triglycerides.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the answer Doc I'll take your advise. I do a lot of excersice and take omega 3 as suplemnt. I'll try to ad some wine to my mediteranean diet and see what happens then.
Avatar m tn HDL reacts well to Omega 3 fatty acids which can be found in fish, mostly cold water fish like Salmon. You can also take it in a supplement but first make sure you run it past your doctor. If he OK's Omega 3's look for one high in EPA and DHA, you want a total of 600 mg a day. Also, ask your doctor about exercise because exercise will increase HDL very quickly as well, but make sure you get it cleared by your doctor first. I hope this helps!
Avatar m tn I think it would be wiser to buy capsules because some fish (thanks to environment poisoning) can contain methylmercury and other chemicals. The label on the packaging will state what forms of omega 3 supplements are contained in the capsules. Erijon has far more knowledge on this and I don't wish to tread on his toes here, and I'm sure he will have plenty to add.
Avatar m tn Your numbers are fine. Your HDL is low but so is your LDL so the two cancel each other out. You may want to talk to your doctor about adding some omega 3 to build your HDL, other than that you're good. As far as your tri's go, you may want to take a fibrate, ask your doctor. Tri's are easy to control by cutting your sugars and empty carbs like breads and pastas.
Avatar f tn The HDL is the good cholesterol and you want that high. LDL is the bad cholesterol and Triglycerides are bad and very hard to get down when they are high. Triglycerides are worse for clogging up arteries than LDL. As far as I can tell, blood work looks great! Keep up the good work.
Avatar f tn He exercises 3-4 times a week for an hour, takes Omega 3 daily and eats healthy (low cholesterol and low saturated fat) meals with lots of veggies and fruit. Recently he had a stress test and it came back slightly abnormal. He also had a stress echocardiogram and it came back normal. I am concerned because from what I understand these results could mean that he may have clogged arteries.
Avatar n tn Ahsanrz, you should become an informed consumer. Gymdandee gave some excellent advice on how to lower your triglycerides using fish oil (Omega-3 fatty acids). You said, “Honestly I do not want to start medicine because it is always associated with side effects.” We live in the age of the internet. Search the internet for answers to your doubts.
Avatar m tn Chrs Gym for reply, I do take omega 3 nearly everday, Cinamin, and veggies and fruit. I am on a DASH diet as such to help keep my blood pressure down. Also just back from a 18 m bike ride to another town. So I would consider myself doing what you say already. I was on a low card last year and had better Triglyceride figures than what I have now on the DASH. It could be the frutose lvls though from 4 to pieces of fruit daily and salads.
Avatar f tn Yes, they do contain cholesterol. That is your question. But cholesterol isn't one thing, it's a combination of different fats. Without cholesterol you couldn't manufacture hormones, and nothing would move through your system. Cholesterol is only a problem when it sticks to blood vessels. That happens when cholesterol oxidizes. The worst form is triglycerides, which is found mostly in our dies in the form of hydrogenated vegetable oils.
Avatar m tn I would work to improve your numbers through life style changes at this point. Your concerns should be increasing your HDL which you can do through exercise, diet and using supplements such as Omega 3's and Niacin. Your Tri's are also high but can be brought in line by cutting empty carbs like breads, pastas sugars. If this fails I would consider a statin as you have a family history of heart disease in your family. Also, did you mean that your fasting blood sugars were over 200?
1655526 tn?1330655629 So im not crazy after all.. I have told doctors and other people that fish and omega 3 bother my arrthymia. Noone believed me but I know what happens and it isnt pretty. I stay away from it. I did find an article once that said its good for the heart but people with arrythmias it can make them go into life threating ones.
