976897 tn?1379167602 It has been estimated that around 20% of the public have Mental Illness, 16% have Heart disease and 16% cancer. They have at last seen the link and believe that taking Mental Illness seriously and treating professionally will severely decrease such illnesses as Heart disease and Cancer. Personally I think they are three decades too late in realising this, but at least they have now woken up.

Avatar f tn Strange question but I seem to be so willful or forceful regarding my health and recovery and I was wondering if people experience mental illness as a positive thing (outside personal growth and development). Do many people sit back and accept diagnosis and treatment and life graciously? (We probably wouldn't be depressed if we did would we??) If people are familiar with the Katy Did books this also kind of follows along those lines of Katy making us.
534105 tn?1226157177 this caused me severe depression and anxiety. I have been treated for these two mental illness with antidepressants and anti anxiety meds, but the problem continue. At this moment I am not taking any psych med, I beleive that they were causing more problems on my liver. It is possible that my Gilbert condition has any relation to my eyes problem? Please help!
Avatar f tn Anyone else suffer from mental illness and pregnant? If so how far along are u? What's your diagnosis? And how have u been doing? I suffer from schizophrenia and bipolar. I am now 27 weeks. And have been on very low dosages of meds. And doing incredible. I haven't been this healthy since I was 14 and I am now just months away from my 30th birthday.
Avatar f tn I have depression, PTSD and severe anxiety. In the past - eating disorder and OCD. Currently, I am 22 F and I quit my medication about 2 months ago, because I have been on it a year or more and it made me tired and not quite myself. I originally switched from prozac because oddly I had hallucinations and I mean visual and hearing. It was so frightening for me I might never forget it.
696997 tn?1232315913 It is more a lifestyle induced mental illness that something else you are born with and cannot cure. Anxiety is curable it requires a change in your lifestyle, a different way to approach things, a radical mind shift and most important of all control of your mind. You can learn to control your mind by introducing yourself to meditation, getting knowledge about the mind itself or the brain and how it works, physical activity and healthy diet.
Avatar n tn She took him on a tour of the fire department (pre arranged) and a few of the firefighters talked to him and were rather, well, hard on him. Not over the top, but enough to scare him. He never did it again. Point is, there could be a lot of reasons this happened. It may be a sign of a bigger issue, or just plain old kids being kids not understanding the potential consequences of their actions.
Avatar f tn Yep - you don't talk about it. When you do, even though, by law under Disablilities Act, you are still going to scare those uneducated people about the illness. I agree also, that if we had cancer, it would be - not easier - but employers are more understanding. When we have days that are hard because we have been up for 3 days, it's not easily understandable.
917167 tn?1330255938 Dennis Embry (CEO/Founder PAXIS institute in AZ) talked about taking an Omega 3 supplement especially as a mental health or substance abuse patient because it has shown to restore dopamine receptors in the brain. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone out there swear by them? I have been taking them for roughly two weeks, but of course I wouldn't be feeling better today.....bad bad bad. It's you all on here who are keeping me from cracking under the pain.
Avatar f tn In a new study, people who added a daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids to their regular antidepressant treatment had significant improvement in symptoms, including anxiety, sleeping problems, sadness, decreased sexual desire, and suicidal tendencies. Although there are many effective treatments for depression, most only work in a limited number of patients or have significant side effects that prompt users to stop taking them.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone, lately I've been getting mood swings, anxiety, depression and getting mad at the small things. What is the exact cause of these disorders? Could it be toxin overflow in my body? I'm a healthy 28 year old male; I eat healthy, exercise, take a multivitamin, omega 3 and probiotics. But sounds like my body says it's not good enough for mental health and apparently taking those supplements, I'm still having this mental disorder?
Avatar n tn Also - i read that bipolar is a neuro-degenerative illness, and that one should rather focus on Omega 3&6 fatty acids, vitamins, adequate rest, physical exercise and mental exercises - crosswords, suduko, chess, studying or learning new things, dancing, etc etc - just keep the mind busy. And that bipolar is linked to early onset dementia. And every time one experiences mania and severe depression - your brain is damaged further.
1655526 tn?1330655629 So im not crazy after all.. I have told doctors and other people that fish and omega 3 bother my arrthymia. Noone believed me but I know what happens and it isnt pretty. I stay away from it. I did find an article once that said its good for the heart but people with arrythmias it can make them go into life threating ones.
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
Avatar n tn I take Omega 3 and Omega 6 + vitamin E and it has probably affected me positive. Keep hope alive and an open communication to your boyfriend. It is important to you to lessen the period, and important to the relationship that you feel well.
Avatar f tn i agree with Kjstar11 i have looked into the statistics in Japan and the scandinavian countries and they possess very low figures when it concerns mental illness. I attibute this to their waters plenty of omega-3. I think we need someone here who knows of any ongoing research to tell us about and whether they have special diet. A friend of the family - who died now - once he had BP2 his family took him to some hospital in Paris. They spent some 100.
Avatar n tn I am glad to see someone is as alarmed as I am regarding all the discussion of going off meds and trying something that has not been medically shown to effectively treat bipolar disorder (i.e. Omega-3). I agree it is a serious mental illness and to downplay it by saying it is a misdiagnosis or wanting to quit all medications gives me serious cause for concern. There was a post today regarding diabetic patients and their need to take insulin.
Avatar f tn I've taken BOTH omega 3 and vitmin B12....... Omeaga 3 works very well in my experince it improved my overall mood esepically towards depression but you don't have to worry about taking too much unlike B vitamins which can cause you to be manic.... but it may be a bit expensive because you need it in the higher doeses 300-400mg pills and you have to take a large amount because you won't really see a diffrence if if you just take like 1 a day.
