omega-3

574118 tn?1305135284 Like one study will say Omega-3 helps people with bipolar concentrate, but another study will say certain levels of Omega-3 are activating. I don't know, it might just depend on the individual just like all the other medicines. Vitimins are still chemicals.
601528 tn?1224081498 9-10 grams a day, yes,9-10 grams - and my psychiatrist Dr. A is ok with my megadosing_with omega-3's. If you are skeptical, please look at mypost in the "Alternative" section @ www.bipolarworld.org about Omega-3's. Read Dr. Stoll's excellent book_"The Omega Connection". Nordic Naturals is also based near where I live and their products have an outstanding reputation and are worth the cost.
1655526 tn?1330655629 So im not crazy after all.. I have told doctors and other people that fish and omega 3 bother my arrthymia. Noone believed me but I know what happens and it isnt pretty. I stay away from it. I did find an article once that said its good for the heart but people with arrythmias it can make them go into life threating ones.
403156 tn?1290150018 ALWAYS take the prescription meds. Omega 3 or 6 is awsome for brain boosting and great for the heart too. Been taking it for years. I know it does not control bipolar because I suffered horrible symptoms before my diagnosis when I was taking Omega 3 already. Just got my diagnosis and added in the bipolar meds!
Avatar f tn I've taken BOTH omega 3 and vitmin B12....... Omeaga 3 works very well in my experince it improved my overall mood esepically towards depression but you don't have to worry about taking too much unlike B vitamins which can cause you to be manic.... but it may be a bit expensive because you need it in the higher doeses 300-400mg pills and you have to take a large amount because you won't really see a diffrence if if you just take like 1 a day.
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
Avatar f tn First, welcome to the forum! Second, I haven't heard too much about SAM-e, and only a bit more about Omega-3, St. John's Wort, 5-HTP, etc. If SAM-e is known to trigger mania in people with BP, it is possible that the mood stabilizing Lamictal will decrease the chances of this happening.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
520191 tn?1355635402 s a good idea as can cause Mixed, mania, and psychosis in someone with those issues. So for the moment i said no. but can feel myself sinking into depression again. What do you think? What are you on if any?
Avatar m tn my pdoc put me on respidol..that stuff made me maninc and sevre mania i was very out of it..whats a good anti depressant..not a ssri....
Avatar n tn Also - i read that bipolar is a neuro-degenerative illness, and that one should rather focus on Omega 3&6 fatty acids, vitamins, adequate rest, physical exercise and mental exercises - crosswords, suduko, chess, studying or learning new things, dancing, etc etc - just keep the mind busy. And that bipolar is linked to early onset dementia. And every time one experiences mania and severe depression - your brain is damaged further.
1053987 tn?1279304510 I take Omega-3 supplements and Vitamin D. For Omega-3, you need to make sure that what you're taking has a high concentration of EPA fats, as these are the ones that will actually help with mood stabilization. Look for capsules that come from fish oil, not flax seed, because flax contains a different type of Omega-3 (ALA). I use a brand called OmegaBrite because my doctor recommended it, actually. Apparently it's one of the best out there to help treat bipolar disorder and depression.
Avatar n tn My husband has severe dry eyes, and has started taking omega 3 and flax seed oil. It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
574118 tn?1305135284 I can't take any familiar antidepressant whether SSRI or SSRE etc...it drives me manic. So I thought tryptophan the precursor to resetonin might be weaker. Does it carry the same risk. I know 5-HTP does. I looked into the sold ones apparently is made from plants or extracts etc ..although an amino-acid... is it like St John Wort say but pure?. Has anyone read thoroughly or tried it with real success, especially someone who didn't have a strong depresion.
Avatar m tn Higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, the active components in omega-3s, can also be found in LOVAZA — the first and only prescription omega-3 medication. It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Therefore, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions that some people should limit the amount of certain types of fish they eat.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
317787 tn?1473358451 Hi there! I just found this group and was wondering if anyone had tried Omega 3 supplements. I am trying them now for stiffness in joints, body. I've also read it can help with brain fog or fuzzy thinking.
