omega-3

Avatar n tn one with ADHD/Aspgerger's, one with Oppositional Defiance and one that's just a typical boy. The Omega-3 has helped all of them with moods, concentration, impulsivity & better handwriting. The omega, in addition to a healthier diet, makes me feel like I am helping them get through life in a way that can be managed for the rest of their lives. If you teach them a certain lifestyle early, the hope is that it will travel with them throughout their adult years.
Avatar f tn Omega-3 Fatthy Acids, in the form of fish oilt supplements, certainly offer a benefit for the health of brain cells (neurons). However, having said that, Omega-3 is not an ADHD treatment. While Omega-3 will likely offer a benefit to your son, it will not eliminate symptoms of ADHD (assuming that your son was diagnosed accurately to begin with).
Avatar f tn ADD or ADHD is not a bad thing to have - if it is acknowledged and dealt with correctly.
Avatar m tn One of the reasons it is helpful is that it contributes to plasticity in the neurons (cells of the brain) and this enhances the movement of electrical activity in the brain. Now there is no reason to think that Omega-3 will help with the behavior you are describing, but as a supplement that contributes to healthy brain functioning it can be useful.
1166311 tn?1263063835 The one thing that has helped him with his learning and calming down is Vitamin B6 and Omega 3-6-9. I would ask Doctor about giving her the Vitamins and how many MG she can have once a day.
Avatar m tn Good dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids include fish, walnuts, and flaxseed, and you can get omega-6 fatty acids from unroasted nuts and seeds of all types and from vegetable oils. But essential fatty acids aren’t the only safe, natural treatments that can improve these childhood problems. It’s also extremely beneficial to eliminate sugar and refined carbohydrates, to determine any food allergies or sensitivities, and to supplement with key minerals and vitamins. Dr.
1094380 tn?1257177347 I say ask your doctor if you can and how much is safe, of the childrens chewable Omega 3's and a friend of mine did just fine taking extra ginko Biloba. But check with your doctor or find a doctor that is a homeopathic MD. They specialize in this sort of thing and have a license to boot. Best of luck... If you are fearful of vitamins and herbs, you'll have to eat differently to get these things in the foods instead.
Avatar f tn My son has been Diagnosed with ADHD and OCD. He has been on ADHD medication since he was 4 and now newly diagnosed with OCD. They think the Vyvanse is making the OCD sympotms worse. I can see this since we placed him on Zoloft for the OCD things have improved somewhat. I feel so bad for him becuase our personalities are so different. I am very melow and laid back but also Type A. He is constantly getting into trouble over little things at school almost daily.
Avatar n tn The best thing that you can do is to read all you can about ADHD! That way you will be able to understand what is going on with your son. Some of the best suggested books are: a new book by a UC Berkley honors student with severe ADHD about growing up with ADHD. The book is called - "ADHD and Me, What I learned from lighting fires at the dinner table," by Blake Taylor. Basically, "the Cal freshman tells hjow he made the ADHD work in his favor.
Avatar f tn Consumer Reports Health ( http://www.consumerreports.org/health/conditions-and-treatments/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder/what-is-it.htm) did a report and said basically that while nothing has been proven it doesn't hurt to try fish oils (omega 3's). I have (in the 3 plus years on this site) never seen a post by a parent saying any additional diet change made a difference (if they had a normal diet). Having said that, omega 3's certainly wouldn't hurt to try!
Avatar n tn Maybe google I do know that some research by experts has shown that supplemnts of antioxidants BComplex and Vit C can have the same efficacy as Ritailin....Fish oil Omega 3 has also shown to be useful.
Avatar f tn Did you not notice that I said some. The teacher my son was a special Ed Teacher and in my mine she shouldn't have been teaching. Every thing that went wrong was my son thou my son would tell his teacher and me if he did something wrong and I had told her that and she new the first time he did he told her right away it was him. And he was in her class because he needed the help.I only wish I had fought for my son a little harder.

Avatar n tn You will learn how to discipline him in a way that is effective and not punitive. Yep, with ADHD kids, discipline really is done differently. You will learn how important a strict routine is - and I could go on and on. So, some short cuts. Every thing that has come out lately says that meds should go along with behavioral therapy. In short, he needs to learn coping skills. Finding someone to do that is not easy (although money makes it easier).
Avatar f tn I think you should plan a couple of session with a psychologist for the depression issue and treat ADHD as something entirely different. Try Omega-3 just for fun and see if it can help with ADHD before jumping on the stimulants.
Avatar f tn My 9yr old son was diagnosed a year ago with adhd. I have been giving him daily omega 3 drops, vitamin D and multivitamins. I have seen some improvement with his concentration , however would like to know if anyone can recommend any other natural supplements that has worked for their child or they have benefited from?
Avatar f tn Hi Can you tell us a little about your child? It seems these days that almost every Child has ADD or ADHD and that the Doctors hand out drugs as if they are Candy. With out looking at everything in the person life. And with out looking at blood levels and testing for other things. These drugs have very bad side effects and have even been know to kill people ,or cause a stroke or Seizures and can damage other parts of the body.

1655526 tn?1330655629 Coincidently, around 12 years ago when my arrythmia took a turn for the worse, I was on a health kick, had decided to clean up my health and diet, and started taking fish oil with Omega 3-6-9 and borage oil because I had heard it was heart healthy and would lower my cholesterol. Never made the connection between the supplements and the worsening arrythmia. I was on several other self-prescribed vitamin and mineral supplements as well.
