omega-3

Avatar m tn Most risk factors of coronary heart disease are changeable, meaning coronary heart disease is a largely preventable disease (3). Omega-3 oils have been shown to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, but how much is enough? Recent research from the British Journal of Nutrition found consumption of greater than 250 mg per day was associated with a 35% reduction in the risk of sudden cardiac death (4).
Avatar m tn Fish oil. Omega 3.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
907968 tn?1292622204 i know there has been research on this my lipid clinic told me to stay away from the farm raised salmon go for the deep water salmon or other fish because the farm raised salmon you lose alot of the omega 3.
Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
1655526 tn?1330655629 Coincidently, around 12 years ago when my arrythmia took a turn for the worse, I was on a health kick, had decided to clean up my health and diet, and started taking fish oil with Omega 3-6-9 and borage oil because I had heard it was heart healthy and would lower my cholesterol. Never made the connection between the supplements and the worsening arrythmia. I was on several other self-prescribed vitamin and mineral supplements as well.
Avatar m tn This small study suggests it helps and there are any health benefts to getting sufficient Omega- 3 in diet Omega 3 study
1765695 tn?1313669583 We are concerned with heart disease. But you and I do not merely want to avoid heart disease. Our goal is optimal heart health. In order to build good habits to promote our optimal heart health it is imperative to look at the current subject. Let’s consider the following points… Where Do We Get Omega-3 and Omega-6? There is Good News and Bad News about Omega-6. We May Be Getting Too Much of a Good Thing. There is Bad News and Good News about Omega-3. What Is the Research Saying?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if Omega-3 helps heart arrythmias? It worked for me, but not for my 30 yr old daughter who suffers from PVCs. They can make life hellish but for the most part are benign - but definitely a quality of life issue. I would say avoid all cardiac stimulants like caffeine, nicotine, and believe it or not - anger and sentimental thoughts can cause arrythmias. You can deliver bad hormones into your own body that stimulate your heart by having scary, or sentimental thoughts.
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar m tn The simplest way to slash your risk of heart attack in half (or more) By now, I'm sure you're well aware of the health benefits of eating fish. I hesitate to bring it up again, since you've been beaten over the head with it so many times by the media. Studies show remarkable results in heart attack and sudden death prevention from eating fish and taking omega-3 fatty acid supplements.
Avatar m tn Should I be on medication at this time? My father dies of heart disease at age 53. my mom has heart disease and diabetes age 72. My 12 hour blood fast for diabetes was 201.
Avatar m tn , whole grains, fruits and vegetables with adequate good quality protein and omega 3 oils.Vanaspati , margarine, bakery foods,processed/packaged foods, maida, white rice should be avoided.Sugar should be minimized. If you are diabetic, eat only water melon and papaya.Avoid root vegetables.Eat foods rich in potassium.Use low sodium salt in small quantity.Avoid normal salt. Doctors do not give anything that boosts the strength and immunity of a patient. They are dead against nutrition.
212161 tn?1599427282 We have all heard of Omega fatty acids, particularly 3 and 6. Well we get omega-6 from oils, and we are told how important this oil is. However, Omega-3 is the most important because it stops inflammation of arteries to allow fast healing. If you have an imbalance, ie. much more omega-6 than omega-3 then the 6 basically destroys the effectiveness of the 3. We end up with inflamed arteries. We need a ratio of 1:1 or a max of 4:1 (6 to 3) before the benefits are obvious.
317787 tn?1473358451 But keep in mind the connection between cholesterol levels and heart disease has no consensus and is increasingly being challenged by medical researchers, so how much good it does is in question. The real bad stuff is triglycerides. It's possible, and it's true with me, that if you have high HDL you'd have somewhat high cholesterol but it would be a good thing, not a bad thing, because the high levels is not the form of cholesterol thought to be a problem.
Avatar n tn No problem. :) 75% who have a heart attack due to heart disease have normal cholesterol levels. As mentioned, if inflammation isn't under control, plaque build up occurs. Good luck with surgery.
Avatar f tn http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/news/20100830/adding-omega-3-to-margarine-doesnt-help-heart If you starting taking something and it causes you to feel bad, common sense says that you should stop it. I also suggest that you see a doctor to find out the cause and type of palpitations you are having.
122065 tn?1241385329 Yes, I do take ******* Omega Guard which is a full spectrum of seven Omega-3's including DHA and EPA. I understand that there have been many studies on the benefits of Omega Fish oil on the eyes and body as a whole, so I started using it sometime ago. I'll continue with that and give the Restasis a good try. I have no risk factors such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes or obesity, so I think your suggestion of 2 a day is fine.
Avatar n tn Salmon is great for the omega 3 and buy eggs with omega 3. Monitor your cholesterol through blood work every year to make sure that the levels are not going up. Monitor your blood pressure to make sure that it is staying within the normal range. Stay active. Take care.
Avatar m tn Omega-3 supplementation lowers inflammation and anxiety in medical students: A randomized controlled trial. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn I have the opposite effect with omega 3 from krill oil. It makes them tons worse. I take a tsp. of flax seed each day and blend them in a smoothie and that doesn't seem to bother me. What brand of plant based omega 3 do you use? After my bad experiences with krill oil, I'm kind of scared to take anything but whole flax seeds.
Avatar f tn 5 miles and I could feel my heart jumping everywhere then I started taking Omega 3 1200 mg 3 times a day and within a week I would not feel any pvc while jogging, well it's been about 2 months and there are some days I do not feel any pvc and if I forget to take it for a day or two then I would feel about 10 or 20 the next day but never while jogging. hope it helps.
Avatar m tn If the angioplasty was successful your doctor will tell you to resume your normal eating habits and activities. obviously a heart health diet is recommended as well as appropriate exercise.
Avatar m tn Omega 3 oils by themselves won't replace statins. Doing this the natural way would require a complete program, including diet, exercise, relaxation exercises, and supplements for reducing cholesterol, protecting the integrity of the blood vessel walls, etc.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
