Omega 3 and dandruff

Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 and dandruff

omega-3

Avatar n tn That could be it any easily treated with a pill. Otherwise try omega fish oil supplement for dogs and a good shampoo like Allergroom or Chlorhexiderm or Hexadene. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn Try adding one to two teaspoons of Omega 3 Fatty acids to the food to try to speed things up. Begin very slowly and gradually increase over time. Try to find a hypoallergenic version of the omega 3 fatty acids, if possible. If it is not available than don't use it.
Avatar m tn Of course, a vet would likely know if they looked at it. But with the dandruff like description and the winter months where heaters run and humidity tends to be lower in the house, it seems as if dry skin is a possibility. You might try a humidifier in the area she spends most her time.
Avatar f tn Most of the better dog foods have Omega 6 in them and, if I remember correctly, if you supplement with Omega 3, you should feed a low fat diet, which for a Boston may not be a bad idea. :-) You can guy Omega 3 capsules and maybe give one a day. You can get flax seed oil and add a little of that daily. Not the two together, either/or. You can feed canned sardines in oil a couple of times a week (maybe 2 or 3 at a time).
1608004 tn?1390770990 All you need to do is go to your local pet store and buy a special shampoo for cats for dandruff, itchiness, and dry skin. And, you can buy some salmon oil or omega 3 oil for cats and give her a half teaspoon a day in her food. This should really help a lot. I have done it myself and my cat looks great!
Avatar n tn What does dandruff shampoo do for the flaky dermatitis on the eyelid? Are you saying by strictly using a dandruff shampoo that will help the flaky dry skin go away on your eyelid? Or do you use the shampoo and also rub it on your eyelid during the process? Hmmm, confused.
Avatar f tn Part of the problem may be you are bathing too often and stripping the natural pils. What breed dog is this? Do you have a flea problem? Have you asked your Vet about a once a month topical treatment or the new oral Comfortis? What food ate you feeding? I would try transitioning to a food with no grain, esp corn. You might try a small bag of the Pro Plan salmon or there are other foods available with fish in them. You can try adding some Omega 3' or fish oil or Flaxseed oil once a day.
1655526 tn?1330655629 So im not crazy after all.. I have told doctors and other people that fish and omega 3 bother my arrthymia. Noone believed me but I know what happens and it isnt pretty. I stay away from it. I did find an article once that said its good for the heart but people with arrythmias it can make them go into life threating ones.
518994 tn?1212242047 I read where Omega 3 was good for your dog. Is it a different Omega 3 or is it the same that humans take?
Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.
Avatar f tn I take my prenatal pill one times a day. And It has everything I need But No omega 3 an I heard to take it 2nd or 3rd trimester. Just don't remember what was said.
Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?
Avatar f tn I have tried to give him a bath every week to clean it up (I use oatmeal shampoo) but when I thought it had cleared up I slacked off, and it turns into this brown buildup on his skin, like skin oils mixed with dandruff and dirt. It was manageable over the summer (we thought it was just allergies) but has actually gotten worse since winter came. Is this allergies to something inside, or a skin infection, or something else? What would be the best way to manage it, or treat it?
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar f tn put them on holistic blue grain free chicken kibble and also adding salmon oil omega 3-6 in their food daily for one week now. What else could this be? I have bathed them in oatmeal shampoo as well. They are eating drinking and playing normally. Very happy pups.. But something is causing them to scratch their neck and lose hair, no redness to the area, no bumps, nothing but hair loss ..
Avatar n tn s lost the 3 extra pounds he was carrying and his muscle tone looks wonderful. And as I said, his coat actually looks really nice and shiny. But he still has dandruff, and some days it's only a few flakes, but some days it's really, really bad! He NEVER scratches. I'm home with him all day, and he doesn't scratch or bite at himself or seem the least bit uncomfortable, and his energy levels seem normal as well. His skin doesn't seem dry, which seems weird.
Avatar n tn My husband has severe dry eyes, and has started taking omega 3 and flax seed oil. It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
506570 tn?1215836300 I have a 4 year old Alaskan Malamute, Loki, who has dandruff like flakes on some areas of his skin. His hair is also a bit thinner along his spine on his lower back. I have tried researching skin conditions in Malamutes and found a lot of information on zinc-responsive dermatosis in Alaskan Malamutes. I would love to know if anyone else is giving their dog zinc supplements and how you went about finding out that your dog has zinc-responsive dermatosis.
Avatar m tn I haven't heard of dandruff being hvc caused. However, I would speak to your medical team about the itchiness which could possibly be liver-related. The tx itself may make your skin drier; up your water intake especially during tx and transfer to a natural shampoo with no harsh chemicals. Speak to your nurse about the problems you're having... Good luck.
Avatar m tn Higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, the active components in omega-3s, can also be found in LOVAZA — the first and only prescription omega-3 medication. It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Therefore, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions that some people should limit the amount of certain types of fish they eat.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
