Avatar f tn I have hypothyroidism. I was taking 125mcg Levothyroxine. When I had my TSH levels drawn it was 19 so the doc raised the med to 150mcg and I came back in 6weeks. TSH was 8. He said to keep taking same new dose but skip Sundays because he feared I would have hyperthyroidsim. Two months have past and during that time I began to take 2000mg Omega Fish oil to lower my 240 cholesterol. (I've been on Vytorin 10/20 for years). Abnormal heart rhythm sent me to the emergency room.
Avatar f tn I've purchased galic and parsley tablets as well as Omega 3-6-9 tablets in the hope of getting my colesterol levels to a normal numbering. But today I read that Omega 6 isn't that good as it could counter the effect of Omega 3 and induce inflammation. Now I"m wondering if I just spent 30$ for nothing. What do you think?
317787 tn?1473358451 But keep in mind the connection between cholesterol levels and heart disease has no consensus and is increasingly being challenged by medical researchers, so how much good it does is in question. The real bad stuff is triglycerides. It's possible, and it's true with me, that if you have high HDL you'd have somewhat high cholesterol but it would be a good thing, not a bad thing, because the high levels is not the form of cholesterol thought to be a problem.
Avatar m tn Vitamin C and niacin help in reducing cholesterol safely.Vitamin E and omega 3 are anti coagulants.Do not use refined oils, specially sunflower or safflower.Refined sunflower or safflower oils contain neither vitamin E or omega 3.Hence, they are dangerous unless you take lots of vitamin E and omega 3.Unrefined oils like mustard oil (kachi ghani Dhara brand)or extra virgin olive oil or even groundnut oil or gingelly oil can be used without heating. No oil should be used for cooking.
Avatar f tn This study found that some of the most commonly eaten shellfish, including oysters, crabs, clams, shrimp and mussels, showed no evidence of raising cholesterol levels. Crab and clams actually lowered the LDL levels (bad cholesterol). Mussels and oysters also lowered LDL, while raising HDLs. Fish and seafood contain a small amount of cholesterol, but are also rich in healthy, unsaturated fat and low in saturated fat, the type of fat that tends to raise blood cholesterol..
720228 tn?1530911279 How much omega 3, 6, 9? just had my cholestrol checked and it was 255. I am also starting prevastation. I know that you can not be pregnant while on this medication but if you happen to become pregnant while taking it I know to stop it immediately. What if any are the risks of taking this medication during the first two to three weeks of pregnancy since it takes that long to find out that you are pregnant?
Avatar f tn I do take Omega 3, and I haven't and don't have any serious issues with cholesterol and no problems at all with my heart. I walk 6 miles a day, and eat very healthy. I'm just looking for some ideas, and then I'll do my own research, but thanks anyway!
237039 tn?1264258057 Hopefully you are taking a statin and importantly a high quality fish oil supplement, 81mg aspirin and Plavix. Omega 3 fish oils lower your Trigs. Lovaza (Lovasa?) is a high end product, but very expensive. I'd look for a fish oil that uses Mackeral and Sardines. Many of the Salmon oil supplements use farmed salmon, and they aren't a quality product at all Are you diabetic? I hope you let us know what you find out and how this is treated.
Avatar n tn That could make a difference. Good news is chocolate especially dark chocolate raises HDL along with Omega 3. Buy omega 3 eggs and salmon is very good at raising HDL.

Avatar m tn Fish oil. Omega 3.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar n tn d urge you to continue to try different statins. I tried to get my cholesterol down using natural products, including Omega 3 and ended up with eight stents and two heart attacks, so cholesterol control to me is essential. I still take Omega 3 medication (Lovaza) to help control Triglicerides. I strongly disagree with the earlier post, millions of people take statins with no obvious side effects.
Avatar n tn It is recommended that all Trans fats and saturated fats are not consumed, but omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats can be eaten. To break that down simply it means nuts, seeds, and peanut/olive oils can be eaten. Suggest having them eat a moderate fat diet to help lower their cholesterol. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats and no Trans fats.
Avatar n tn As time goes on and scientists continue to learn more about heart disease, it has become quite clear over the recent years that inflammation within the body (NOT cholesterol levels) is what causes plaque build up in the arteries and eventual heart disease.
Avatar n tn PART 1 LDL Particle Size Connection First and foremost, it's important to realize that your diet is your best and primary ally for the prevention of inflammation that can lead to heart- and cardiovascular disease. Much focus is placed on cholesterol levels and the ratio of "good" HDL and "bad" LDL cholesterol, but unfortunately, many conventional recommendations for how to improve your cholesterol levels are seriously flawed.
Avatar f tn before I started treating my Dr, had me taking omega 3-6-9 and vit D omega 1000 three times a day and D once. Finished treatment in march and still take the omega and d, didnt want me to stop. See him again in september for 6 month eot. I do see a hepatologist at a transplant ctr.
Avatar n tn Salmon is great for the omega 3 and buy eggs with omega 3. Monitor your cholesterol through blood work every year to make sure that the levels are not going up. Monitor your blood pressure to make sure that it is staying within the normal range. Stay active. Take care.
Avatar m tn then add daily to your time - always ask your doctor first to be safe Lose weight if you need to Stop smoking if you do Cut out the trans fatty acids - 1) reduce the fat intake to 30 - 35% of the total calories in the diet - but probably no lower than 25% of total calories Avoid Alcohol Increase the monounsaturated fats in your diet - try to eliminate saturated fats and trans fats from the diet, and substitute monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats instead Add soluble fiber to your diet Also
Avatar n tn s group at Harvard in 1966, it was clearly established that Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin C, combined with a low carbohydrate diet, can dramatically reduce your triglyceride levels. Omega 3 fatty acids can help with cholesterol as well.

Small clinical trials have investigated omega-3 fatty acid use in the treatment of major depressive, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorders.
Avatar m tn Avoid empty carbs like sugars, pasta and breads. Also, ask your doctor about starting Omega 3 fatty acids like fish oil and while you're at it as about an exercise program that is right for you. Again, your numbers are a little high, but certainly not bad enough for meds. I calculate your Tri's somewhere around 75 which is also very good. So just eat right and exercise and you should be fine. Congrats on the numbers.
Avatar f tn He exercises 3-4 times a week for an hour, takes Omega 3 daily and eats healthy (low cholesterol and low saturated fat) meals with lots of veggies and fruit. Recently he had a stress test and it came back slightly abnormal. He also had a stress echocardiogram and it came back normal. I am concerned because from what I understand these results could mean that he may have clogged arteries.
