Yes, Olmetec® (olmesartan) can cause cough but it sounds like you are being treated for a respiratory infection with an antibiotic and additional medicines to thin your mucus. If that is so, cough can sometimes last for weeks after an infection and, if a person has asthma, cough can last for months after an infection. You should consider trying a cough suppressant medicine, one that contains either codeine or dextromethorphan.

There are many choices. I take Benicar HCT. Benicar (olmesartan) is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow and it helps the kidneys to eliminate extra fluid. It has dropped my blood pressure from 140/85 to my latest 90 day average of 110/67. I have been stable at these numbers for 4 years and counting.
If this drug is not suiting, other newer drugs like Olmesartan and Irbesartan can be used. The other drug which helps in BP due to CKD is ACE inhibitor like lisnopril, captopril, enalapril, and ramipril. So, please ask your doctor if you can be put on these. Other than that proper management of CKD also helps reduce the BP. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
