Olanzapine not working

Common Questions and Answers about Olanzapine not working

zyprexa

Avatar f tn While I have not taken it, I know that a good deal of the antipsychotics out there, including olanzapine, can cause sedation. Antipsychotics can also be activating where they will cause insomnia if you take them before falling asleep. I'm sure there are people here who have taken it and experienced sedation.
Avatar m tn Many medications used to treat mental illness cause weight gain in many users. Different meds have different effects, so while one might result in weight gain, others won't. It's trial and error. When the only drug that works causes a lot of weight gain, that's a big problem.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was on olanzapine my dose was anywhere between 5mg and 12.5mg. I felt a lot better on seroquel after the transition period. I find I am not as drowsy and my appetite isn't as strong, meaning that I am not gaining as much weight. Olanzapine is good for crisis but day to day I find seroquel suits me better, hooe it goes well for you too!
Avatar f tn She said she does not beleaive that olanzapine is one of the drugs that do that. I did not feel very confidant at all with that answer. I'm now also suffering from unexplained sinus tachycardia when I'm standing and walking and I dont know how long its been happening for. I feel like I have a positive mental state for the first time in a long but now my body is in need of healing and I dont know what I can do to get back to my old healthy self.
Avatar m tn ve had to deal with highs and lows for a long time, with antidepressants either not working or sending me walking with angels and talking to trees....After this I took olanzapine 5mg. I think it worked on the mood but it's hard to tell because they made me so unbelievably anxious, whilst sedating me so that I felt I couldn't participate in conversations because my thinking was so slowed. I also lost a lot of my energy and drive to do anything. I'm now on 2.5mg.
Avatar f tn 5mg and Buproprion XL 300mg... After a couple months and not much change my doctor adds in Olanzapine 5mg, problem is I've been doing a bit of research online and am now too nervous to take the Olanzapine(Zyprexa) with the Clonazepam(Klonopin). Every thing I've seen has basically said that these two can interact very badly causing shallow breathing, loss of consciousness, etc. It would be much appreciated if I could get some feedback from anyone who has taken the two together.
6452367 tn?1430944592 Realization that you have hit the bottom sometimes makes your determination to get clean more serious and lets you get the the tough points of withdrawals with the help of your commitment. The road up is not easy. I have not seen any studies that show olanzapine to be helpful in withdrawals. I would guess that it might help a few of the symptoms, but it would not be my first choice because of the side effects it presents. I will give you some alternative options.
Avatar f tn Ive been on seroquel and amitriptylne for abt 6 yrs now. They suddenly stopped working so i quit them. Over the last 6 months ive tried every med out there for sleep and nothing has helped. Ive had severe insomnia since i was a child. Anyways ive tried various antipsychotics through my psychiatrist. The most recent one i tried was olanzapine. The thing is, i only took 2 doses and right away i got muscle spasms and tics through my entire body. I came off it.
Avatar n tn Both Olanzapine and Resperidone are atypical antipsychotics. So, basically, you will be taking the same class of antipsychotics. Resperidone is however a very potent antipsychotic. The response to treatment has been found to be more stable with Resperidone, so that’s a plus point with this drug. Both drugs cause similar side effects, but Olanzapine shows fewer motor function side effects than Resperidone in comaparative clinical trials.
Avatar f tn My first question..........are you currently seeing a Mental Health Professional for your debilitating fear/paranoia of being attacked/killed/tortured and these persecutory delusions? Are you ex-military, by any chance? You have a great many issues going on and my heart goes out to you, but I must be honest and tell you that I believe you need to sit down with your doctors and work out a long term health care plan.
Avatar f tn They took me to psychiatrist that put me on olanzapine 10mg and kept me in the hospital for 10 days. Traumatic experience. Than after 2-3 months the doctor put me on 7mg, and now I'm on 5 mg olanzapine. It was harder to cope with rest of the world the first few mounts. I didn''t want to do the things I wanted, It was hard to cope with my previous social life, I felt like I have nothing to talk to my friends, like my brain is empty, like I'm brain washed.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hi I have started to tapper off olanzapine because of the weight gain, I have noticed that after just a week on the reduced amount I have started to have sleep problems, I am finding it harder and harder to get to sleep, then when I do get to sleep I am waking through the night, could this be the reduction in the med and what should I do if anything, im not due to see me pdoc until 1 june when I would be fully off this med.
603015 tn?1329862973 First I was put on epilim and then lithium was added, then came off lithium and had olazapine added, then had the latest drug added in the hope that it could replace the epilim and the olanzapine but had an ellergic reaction so have had to come off that now so I am left on epilim and olanzapine which is not working, sure I have settled a little and things are not as bad as last year but I am still having several mood swings a day and the depression is the most prominant.

603015 tn?1329862973 Have they ever considered that you build up a tolerance to meds? I can't remember if I ever asked you that before because my memory is just horrible. I don't know much about how that works or how long it takes or anything like that but it seems like all the meds you try stop working after so long from your posts.
603015 tn?1329862973 also having real suicidal thoughts which I have never had seriously before, am I just getting sicker, are my meds just not working, whats going on, I am currently on epilim and olanzapine as well as the lamotrigine.

Avatar m tn been on zopoclone 15mg and mirtazapine 45mg to help me sleep for four years now. i was on olanzapine as well 10mg. the olanzapine also helped me to sleep. i'm not phycotic just have a very bad sleep problem.. the problem is the zop is no longer working and i am not sleeping at all. i mean not even for five minutes and it is happening day after day. my doc says there is nothing else she can give me and that i will have to manage. i think im dying.
Avatar f tn I have been on olanzapine for 15 years and has helped me greatly with anxiety, and other mental health conditions. I am 35 years old and have over the past 7 weeks experienced extreme pain in my feet and ankles. I had also over the past 6 months experienced tingling in the feet and legs which I believe is a side effect of long term use off olanzapine. I have been very concerned over the servere pain in my feet as it is all over the foot and can be painful to walk on.
Avatar f tn ve taken a nap or not, first given olanzapine over ten years ago by a GP to help me sleep, then my once muscular fit body suddenly went to 25 stone, borderline diabetic. They took me off olanzapine and put me on mirtazapine as they say I'm depressed, yes I'm depressed, I'm pretty much suicidal now as I can't and won't exist like this, I've had to stop working earlier last month as the pain, tiredness and my mood put people in danger.
Avatar m tn I don't have any experience with this medication so let's see if somebody else responds.
Avatar m tn Last night I took my first olanzapine pill(5mg), for panic attacks and apparently I did some weird things in my sleep. My girlfriend said my legs were twitching, and sounded like I was choking when I was snoring. It only happened last night, and not this morning when I was sleeping. I feel normal today, just a little dizzy(I slept 15 hours). Is this normal?? Thanks Also, I can't stop sleeping!
Avatar n tn The Topamax is not working for me. I am not getting sleep at night, so I am going back to my doc. In the meantime, I will be taking Trileptal with Olanzapine which was working fine for me except that I noticed blood in my stool which I think was the result of taking the Trileptal (which stopped when I stopped the Triletptal). You recommended Geodon. Is that an antipsychotic or a mood stabilizer?
Avatar m tn anzxiety is not comfortable for sure...talk to ur doctor...maybe he could give u something like valium to use only when u have panic attacks and such...just a drug us have to be so careful wit..the benzos...what else have u tried to relax?
