Avatar n tn Unfortunately, both divalproex and olanzapine can cause weight gain. Geodon (another atypical antipsychotic like olanzapine) and Abilify (a third generation antipsychotic) are supposed to be weight neutral, and may work well if olanzapine does. You need to talk to a doctor about switching, though. Exercise and diet control are always good, and it won't hurt you to try using them to control the weight gain.
Avatar n tn Both Olanzapine and Resperidone are atypical antipsychotics. So, basically, you will be taking the same class of antipsychotics. Resperidone is however a very potent antipsychotic. The response to treatment has been found to be more stable with Resperidone, so that’s a plus point with this drug. Both drugs cause similar side effects, but Olanzapine shows fewer motor function side effects than Resperidone in comaparative clinical trials.
Avatar f tn thank you much ma'am for your response but i would also like to ask you, considering my long term use of sleep medications. should i be trying to wean it off. what would you say to that. I will also discuss this with my doc. I also have depression, eating disorder for which i was quarter of olanzapine and fluoxetine combine. coz my weight has shot up causing bp so i have stopped the meds for depression now.
Avatar f tn I am about to switch from olanzapine to seroquel. Is it ok to just stop taking olanzapine and start taking seroquel? I am on a very low dose of olanzapine.
Avatar f tn I was put on olanzapine an anti phycotic on top of my fluvoxamine meleate 200mg for deap depression after and home invasion. While the olanzaoine was helpful with my depression i think it was also causing leg pain. the longer I took it for the worse the pain got and more pain meds I needed to take to get threw my day to just walk. Once I was strong enough to come off olanzapine I weaned my self off and the leg pain started to get better over time.
603015 tn?1329862973 I am on Epilim and Olanzapine, I have started to have a slight tremor in both my hands, on and off, then last week I had two days where my hands shaked violently when I picked up a drink, is this the meds or have they got my illness wrong and it is some other nerological disorder like MS or something. Another good reason to stop taking my meds.
Avatar n tn Their med wiki has more information than you probably want, with summaries of drugs as well as links to the full prescribing info that doctors use. If you're gaining really fast on Trileptal, get your sodium checked and see if you have some swelling going on. A more uncommon side effect is to lower your sodium, which can cause water retention and rapid weight gain. If this is happening (and you should get your doctor to check), you'll need to up your salt intake to balance things.
Avatar f tn I have seen several people here using sub here to assist with their treatment here. I have a question in regards to how a drs. will allow the medication to be used. I know sub is very expensive to obtain especially if you do not have the insurance to cover it. Has anyones dr. prescribed them 1-2 tabs at a time because the patient wasn't able to afford the full script?
Avatar f tn While I have not taken it, I know that a good deal of the antipsychotics out there, including olanzapine, can cause sedation. Antipsychotics can also be activating where they will cause insomnia if you take them before falling asleep. I'm sure there are people here who have taken it and experienced sedation.
Avatar f tn There are some medications but one that seems to have been approved by many governments is Zyprexa (Olanzapine). It should be in a generic form now, so it should be cheaper than the name brand version. As you have been diagnosed with BAD II, your doctor should not have a problem prescribing it. Starting dosage could be 10 mg/day. The medication seems to be a bit more effective than the anticonvulsants, lithium, etc. Antidepressants can be prescribed as adjunct therapy. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I have been on olanzapine for 15 years and has helped me greatly with anxiety, and other mental health conditions. I am 35 years old and have over the past 7 weeks experienced extreme pain in my feet and ankles. I had also over the past 6 months experienced tingling in the feet and legs which I believe is a side effect of long term use off olanzapine. I have been very concerned over the servere pain in my feet as it is all over the foot and can be painful to walk on.
6452367 tn?1430944592 Will Olanzapine help with withdrawals from Oxycodone. I am down to 10mg of Oxy and it has been a fight for me.. I did wean myself off Hydrocodone which made me happy but then I got on oxy 30 mg and have reduced my dosage. Will this medicine help me.

Avatar m tn Hello, I have been diagnosed and treated for psychotic depression, OCD, anxiety for last few years. I was on olanzapine for 1 year (5mg), and it worked like making me sleepy really quickly and knocked me out in within 10 mins. Then I was on and off basis as I was not so glad to taking medications because all next I was sleepy. Recently my condition has worsened and I am taking 2.5 mg as said by doctor (take when required and your condition etc).
Avatar f tn They took me to psychiatrist that put me on olanzapine 10mg and kept me in the hospital for 10 days. Traumatic experience. Than after 2-3 months the doctor put me on 7mg, and now I'm on 5 mg olanzapine. It was harder to cope with rest of the world the first few mounts. I didn''t want to do the things I wanted, It was hard to cope with my previous social life, I felt like I have nothing to talk to my friends, like my brain is empty, like I'm brain washed.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hi I have started to tapper off olanzapine because of the weight gain, I have noticed that after just a week on the reduced amount I have started to have sleep problems, I am finding it harder and harder to get to sleep, then when I do get to sleep I am waking through the night, could this be the reduction in the med and what should I do if anything, im not due to see me pdoc until 1 june when I would be fully off this med.
5093508 tn?1390543931 I am weaning off valium & zopiclone (ambien). Yes, it's very difficult on some days, to stick to the weaning off plan, but I am doing it, as I really want to get off these 2 meds. I even try to take less than what my psychiatrist has prescribed. I've researched the different ways people react while tapering their meds, especially these 2. So OK, it says anxiety, depression, anger, nausea etc.
698408 tn?1256958348 If given a choice between an antipsychotic (Zyprexa) and a mood stabilizer (Depakoate) I would choose Depakoate. Zyprexa does have the risk of tardive dyskinesia. If a person needs an antipsychotic of course they have to take one but Depakoate does not have that risk. Zyprexa also has a severe risk for diabetes. All of the atypicals do but Zyprexa is most likely to.
408795 tn?1324935675 Although not as specific, it contain much of the same information and is readily available to the patient and the doctor. This information label was given to me by my GI to read and discuss regarding issues related to anger and depression and the potential for needing an AD sometime during trt. I would hope all doctors discuss this prior to trt, but this may not be the case. I'm also curious what "psychological evaluations" are being done.
9648 tn?1290091207 By obtaining data from pharmacies and health insurers, the drug companies learn the prescribing habits of thousands of doctors. That information has become not just a powerful sales and marketing tool for the pharmaceutical industry but also a source of growing concern among some elected officials, healthcare advocates and legal authorities.
Avatar f tn For 21yrs I've had severe diarrhea, sporadic moments of having a "normal" bowel movement. With that I've also had pain, started in the lower abdomen left side, cramps, air bubbling through, but also started in my joints, muscles, pretty much everywhere now, sometimes it's an ache others full blown crushing and sharp pain. Waking up takes so long in the morning, setting multiple alarms, sometimes I don't hear or must snooze the alarm.
Avatar n tn I suggest you start by reviewing the extended prescribing information that is in the Physicians Desk Reference PDR or similiar compendium. You may also need to do a internet search. Finally I suggest you see a neuroophthalmologist, ideally at a well though of medical school. They are the Scherlock Holmes of the eye world.
Avatar f tn 5mg and Buproprion XL 300mg... After a couple months and not much change my doctor adds in Olanzapine 5mg, problem is I've been doing a bit of research online and am now too nervous to take the Olanzapine(Zyprexa) with the Clonazepam(Klonopin). Every thing I've seen has basically said that these two can interact very badly causing shallow breathing, loss of consciousness, etc. It would be much appreciated if I could get some feedback from anyone who has taken the two together.
822839 tn?1241669180 m used to taking at least 4mgs at least...as offten as possable.
