olanzapine and risperidone

I was diagnosed with schizo 2 years ago... I was first on Rivotril and switched to Risperidone... I started to get bad achne and gained so much weight that I stopped taking it...

I was given 4 types of drugs YEARS AGO in 2007 Olanzapine,Risperidone,Depixol,Trihexyphenidyl, i suspect it is the Olanzapine that has caused an internal burning gastric sensation below my navel area and around crotch area and wondered if you know of any drug,vitamins,herbs to reverse the damage caused and if you know what the problem could be?

Can risperidone, olanzapine and mirtazapine cos noticeable hairloss? I am having hairloss, cant find much reasons so blaming medicines.

I never had any spasms on it. It was the olanzapine and it took only one dose. Before that i also tried risperidone for a month so who knows. I need to get back on seroquel as its the only thing that helps me sleep, but now im too afraid. I hsvent slept at all after my shift tonight im laying in bed and my leg is jerking all over the place. Along with my fingers.

However I recently moved home and changed job and started doing cartwheels in the cathedral and playing loud music and hoovering in the middle of the night, but then feeling both on top of the world but lethargic and stuck to my chair at the same time...occaisonally I felt racing thoughts too and it was like I was an observer in my head watching the negative spiral of thoughts downwards....there were times when all I wanted to do was self harm .....because I hurt so much.

I'm no longer on olanzapine and I did not know about the posiable drug interaction untill I saw a new Dr recently and started asking why I might be getting leg pains so bad. I did ask her about olanzapine being connected to the pain but she said there should be no lasting so effect's from it now that I'm off the med. I asked her if olanzapine can be stored in the fat cell or anything as I gained 35 kg from olanzapine and when I lost 10kg fairly fast I wonder if there was conection.

However, for myself (not something you have of course) in having schizoaffective disorder I needed an antipsychotic and all of them except for Clozaril (which causes blood dyscreias and needs constant bloodwork and can be dangerous and something I couldn't tolerate) can cause it. I think I would have not been able to recover if I hadn't taken an antipsychotic all these years though I wish they had caught up with the tardive in time before it progressed this far.

There are other medications in the same class as Abilify that may be less expensive (atypical antipsychotics like quetiapine, olanzapine, risperidone, etc.). Have you tried any of those? Lithium is also really cheap. Have you tried it? It does come with side effects, but it is the classic drug for bipolar I. They took me to psychiatrist that put me on olanzapine 10mg and kept me in the hospital for 10 days. Traumatic experience. Than after 2-3 months the doctor put me on 7mg, and now I'm on 5 mg olanzapine. It was harder to cope with rest of the world the first few mounts. I didn''t want to do the things I wanted, It was hard to cope with my previous social life, I felt like I have nothing to talk to my friends, like my brain is empty, like I'm brain washed.

I then got hospitalised for aggression. I was on the drug Risperidone(Risperdal) for two months and also on Zuclopentixol (Clopixol) injections. And I developed social anxiety, poor attention and zero social skills. After getting off the clinic, I self medicated to Risperidone(Risperdal), Clonazepam (Rivotril) and Mirtazapine (Remeron) at recommended dosage (And Zuclopentixol (Clopixol) injection) and feel good, and developed social skills, and social anxiety is less.

I am no Dr. but if that's what your doc said to do...it is probably fine. If you don't feel comfortable you can always ask him/her to ween you off of the olazapine slowly. But, seroquel is a strong drug..so, I think you will be fine. But, again, I am no dr.

Hi, Im on zyprexa olanzapine 5mg, and when I first went on them It would make me very drowsy and pretty much knock me out a few hours after taking them! this caused problems at first as if I took them too late and then went to sleep before they kicked in, I would sleep right through my alarm, I quickly adopted what time I should take them and stuck at about 7pm to get to sleep for 11pm - 12am.

Will Olanzapine help with withdrawals from Oxycodone. I am down to 10mg of Oxy and it has been a fight for me.. I did wean myself off Hydrocodone which made me happy but then I got on oxy 30 mg and have reduced my dosage. Will this medicine help me.

I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.

I just wanted you to know that after starting this Risperidone I have lost interest in everything I use to like in life like reading,music and movies and become withdrawn.That is what I dont like as this Risperdal has almost finished off my interests in things I liked.I had a similar experience in 1997 when I was started on chlorpromazine by another Pdoc and it had then similarly led me to lose interest in everything I liked like reading music and movies.

Hi adel did you encounter insomnia and sleep problems when you stopped risperidone as I am encountering these sleep problems now and the PDoc is fine with my speed of tapering the medication.

Last night I took my first olanzapine pill(5mg), for panic attacks and apparently I did some weird things in my sleep. My girlfriend said my legs were twitching, and sounded like I was choking when I was snoring. It only happened last night, and not this morning when I was sleeping. Both Olanzapine and Resperidone are atypical antipsychotics. So, basically, you will be taking the same class of antipsychotics. Resperidone is however a very potent antipsychotic. The response to treatment has been found to be more stable with Resperidone, so that’s a plus point with this drug. Both drugs cause similar side effects, but Olanzapine shows fewer motor function side effects than Resperidone in comaparative clinical trials.

my calves and feet gets swollen and tight and hard when i am on my feet either sitting or standing or walking for more then 3 or 4 hours. And i have calf and feet spasm that are severely painful sometimes especially after i am in an air-conditioned place walking or standing for more than one hour. I have very little varicose veins n i dont smoke or drink but i am on prozac 3 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets of risperidone at night. What is wrong with me?

If I were you I would taper and stop the Risperidone and Stelazine and raise the Seroquel to thereuptic range or stop all three and start on Lamictal which is a known MS.You run the risk of Tardive Dyskinesia,diabetes if you take 3 AP's simaltenously.
