Avatar m tn Apart from the DHS, the West Fertilizer site was subject to a hodgepodge of regulation by the EPA, OSHA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Office of the Texas State Chemist. But the material is exempt from some mainstays of U.S. chemicals safety programs.
Avatar n tn About 10-15 days later, this cough came out of the blue with no other symptoms. Not even sore. I work in a large old government building (office environment) that I thought could be a main cause as it seemed to get worse there (mold, construction, etc..) and other people have complained about the air with no clear culprits. I've contacted the safety people, but am getting largely ignored. 3 day weekends away from the office does not resolve the tickling.

Avatar m tn Perhaps you could try and get a more front end position? Call OSHA or someone like that to find out if safety regulations are being met at your place, or could be improved. I hope you are able to find another position somewhere, I think it will help you a lot. I don't know the specifics of being compensated for Occupational illness but my guess would be you qualify. Good Luck, start excercising as soon as possible.

Avatar m tn Several years ago I worked in a building and specifically in an office that made me feel sick all the time. Then in an apartment where mold was such an issue both my son and myself were so ill but I could not prove it. In talking to other residents so many were experiencing the same issues. Your situation is very serious and does not sound right. Especially given the age of each of you that got so ill. It might be worth talking to an attorney.
Avatar f tn You need to speak to HR. Also I would recommend getting a dr to write you a note of the limitations you require and to allow a break period. With that documentation there isnt anything legally that they could do to you and if they try to force you to work outside of those limitations, well thats a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Avatar f tn Consequently, bites may require postexposure follow-up per the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) BP standard. Literature reveals that BP transmission via bites is rare. Review of available records in our developmental center identified no bite-related BP transmission between 1993 and 2011. To avoid unnecessary testing while remaining OSHA-compliant, we propose an algorithm for selective follow-up of bites.
Avatar f tn Not really, it depends on the type of work and the regulations that OSHA requires for that type of job. For example if a person has ever been diagnosed with seizures, they legally can not become a truck driver regardless if they are controlled by medication or not. Underwater welding is the same way. It is a very dangerous type of work so it is highly regulated.
Avatar n tn I didnt realize it till sitting in the chair, but this dentist office was very shady. There was no hygienist, old equipment, not a very clean place, and i dont think the dentist cleaned any of the tools. i saw him pool the "scraper" thing for cleaning plaque out of a random drawer. I am really freaked out and nervous as i also didnt see any sterilization equipment. Could this dentist have put me in harms way because of all of this? i am so nervous!
