Avatar f tn You are definitely overreacting. I don't know why it is that so many people seem to think that nurses are required to open needles, equipment, etc in front of a patuent. That's not true. If you have OCD type issues, then request that the nurse open everything in front of you. However, with the nature of these kinds of obsessive thoughts, even that is not usually enough to stop the irrational thoughts. Nurses do NOT reuse needles.
Avatar m tn "So wire swab and small blade with the infected fluid is not infectious when exposed to air?" This assumes that the doctor's office didn't sterilize it. Get real; that's an irrational assumption. But I already said that even if they didn't, there would be no risk. I haven't changed my mind in the past coupel of yours. "Can i get on with my life and get married?" Of course you can, as related to any potential risks in the doctor's office.
Avatar m tn i have read an article stating how some people may have been exposed to the hiv virus (and hepatitis) because the hospital didnt use the proper sterilization on colonoscopy equipment. and another similar article that stated those that underwent ear, nose, and throat treatments were exposed too. how likely is someone to catch the hiv virus from a situation like this?
Avatar m tn The article you reference makes no mention of HIV - that is because HIV cannot be transmitted that way. If you have other questions about the safety of using dental equipment, we suggest visiting the Dental Health forum, as this forum is HIV specific.
Avatar m tn Tattoo artists/piercers are trained on safety measures regarding bloodborne pathogens and do not reuse needles and they sterilize equipment between all customers.
Avatar n tn Power-generating equipment, arc welding equipment and powerful magnets (as in medical devices, heavy equipment or motors) can inhibit pulse generators. Patients who work with or near such equipment should know that their pacemakers may not work properly in those conditions. Cellphonelphones available in the United States (less than 3 watts) don't seem to damage pulse generators or affect how the pacemaker works.
Avatar f tn For most people the cost of premium lens and upgraded technolology lime ORA and femtosecond laser is NOT WORTH IT. and the additional safety of this technology has not been demonstrated in peer reviewed journal and controlled study. The equipment is however extremely expensive to surgical practices and once they buy in to it their entire office and staff are then pushed in to a "buy-up" program like you are seeing.
572651 tn?1530999357 If you saw my email inbox you might be surprised at some of the mail I receive. I have signed up on distribution lists for many medical sites, including Nursing Times from the UK. I received an announcement today about an upcoming convention in LONDON, that may be of interest to some of you. This convention/conference is September 29-30 and the registration is FREE. I wish I could go, but its a bit far to commute. Some of you who live in the UK may be interested, though.
Avatar f tn I am so scared:) I was at a discount store and poked my hand with a safety pin that was taken apart, basically mangled. It looked like somebody had twisted it. It was on top of a clothing rack. It drew blood on me. The store had just opened and I am wondering if someone had purposely placed it there. Can I get hiv fro it and if not can you explain why? Thank you I am so scared!!!!
Avatar f tn If, hypothetically speaking, the previous patient has hep c, is there risk? Because I have read on the internet that hepatitis c spreads through contaminated equipment.
Avatar m tn — Thousands of veterans were at first shocked to learn they should get blood tests for HIV and hepatitis because three hospitals might have treated them with unsterile equipment. Now, just a couple of months after the Department of Veterans Affairs issued the dire warnings, veterans are growing frustrated by the lack of information from the tightlipped federal agency.
475300 tn?1312423126 Since were talking about tattoos-I was a tattoo artist in the 1980s and early 90s.One way hepC is transmitted via tattoo is interesting. Even though everything (equipment ,etc.) has been medically sterilized in an autoclave, there's a place some inexperienced tattooists miss. First, I fill a small cup with ink, and then begin the tattoo. I dip the bloody needles into the ink, and back to your skin. No problem there. Now, I run low on ink and refill the cup.
Avatar m tn Third, almost all phlebotomy and injection equipment are now manufactured to be a ONE use only item, with safety features that actually render the equipment unable to be used a second time. If you cannot accept this, then get yourself some professional help.
Avatar m tn I noticed that the dr touching my eyes did not have gloves on, and she was using equipment that was touching my naked eye. Is there a risk of transmission via contaminated equipment/hands? Has there ever been any reports of transmission this way?
Avatar m tn eref=rss_topstories From Jennifer Pifer Bixler, Elizabeth Cohen and Sabriya Rice (CNN) -- Thousands of veterans in South Florida may have been exposed to hepatitis and HIV because of contaminated equipment after getting colonoscopies at the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, officials announced Monday. Two Florida lawmakers are asking for an inspector general's inquiry.
2168213 tn?1357062544 I'm 12wks now and our sex life has been great. But my husband wanted to spice it up and bought me dildo/vibrator. I haven't had that and never experienced it. Anyone use it? Is it safe for the baby? I definitely don't want to risk the safety of my baby with my sexual pleasure. My little one is precious!!!
Avatar n tn I got tested for Hep B today and I was testing whether I am vaccinated and whether I am infected with Hep B or not. How long would the results come out?
489798 tn?1270476475 I've heard that the equipment in an OB's office is more advanced (and therefore, sensitive) than other equipment, so it would make sense that an ER might not have the right equipment to pick up the heartbeat! I know it's hard, but try to relax and stay positive! Hope you are feeling better soon!
9525685 tn?1410800512 So my doctor just told me i wont be finding out the sex of the baby in her office instead u have to wait until the 21st of oct when i get my anatomic survey which i don't understand my next appointment with her is next week i will be 19weeks and a couple days why can't she just tell me !!
7136384 tn?1390142888 It just depends some offices have that type of equipment others don't I have my first ultrasound in my Dr office but when I had the anatomy scan I had to go to the hospital to have it done
Avatar n tn Hi! Yes, I've talked to many families where their toddlers were on a pump. The youngest I've heard for going on a pump from our endo's office is an 8 month old. You get a good pump pouch, and you lock out the buttons so that the child can't just start pushing buttons. Toddler activity doesn't seem to bother the equipment, from what I'm told. You're more likely to deal with holes in the knees of his pants than problems with the pump or the sites!
