587778 tn?1261397118 You need to contact the doctor and talk about pain management options. A knee brace, compression wraps, ice packs, pain patches, physical therapy, Synvisc injections, etc. At your age it wouldn't surprise me if the doctor is reluctant to consider a partial knee replacement (I had my first hip done at 37), but it's best to exhaust every other avenue of pain management first. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from arthritis for quite some time, with osteoarthritis in the lower back and I think I have roaming arthritis that causes sporadic swelling. I also think I have arthritis of the fingers, even though my doctor diagnosed it as carpal tunnel (it comes and goes). My muscles and joints are aching when I move my arms and legs in certain ways, especially at the hips and shoulder. I have no idea what's going on?
293157 tn?1285873439 d with OA (degenerative arthritis)on the backside of my left knee cap. that doctor told me most people wouldn't be able to feel it. REALLY?? he then told me, my right ankle/foot problem and my left knee were going to play off each other and would destroy my good joints in my legs and I would be lucky to be able to walk in 10 years then he left.
Avatar m tn I'm afraid I don't have any experience with cod liver oil, so I can't comment on the benefits or risks/dangers it might have. As with any supplement or medication, I would definitely check with your doctor or pharmacist before trying it to make sure it won't interact with any medication you're on or medical condition you may have. Remember - just because it's a "natural" supplement, doesn't necessarily mean that it's safe or good for you.

Avatar m tn There is no miracle drug that can prevent or cure arthritis. Genetics may increase your chance of developing arthritis. If you have a family history of arthritis, which may be more likely to develop it. Women are also more prone to arthritis. if you are following all measures and still develop arthritis in the line, but there are some preventive measures that can be taken.  Maintain a healthy weight, which can help combat OA.  Do not smoke, or stop smoking.
1041953 tn?1259072690 I am 52, and was first disgnosed with o-arthritis in my right knee when I was 35. I had arthoscopic surgery on my left knee this past July. For me at least, the procedure was totally ineffective. The surgeon couldn't completely repair the meniscus which is frayed and teared and.......auto-digesting!!
159619 tn?1707018272 One last comment quoted from the recent recommendations for the treatment of knee arthritis by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons: Recommendation 18 We recommend against performing arthroscopy with debridement or lavage in patients with a primary diagnosis of symptomatic OA of the knee.
Avatar m tn I am now 51 years old, and despite still having beebees in the knee area and a missing knee cap I have been fairly active, but now have arthritis surrounding the area and my knee occasionally pops out of alignment. I build livestock fence on hilly terrain and rope riding my horses. I would like to know what knee brace I could use to give it the best support possible (without being too hot when wearing) while doing these activities?
Avatar f tn re seeing is probably osteoarthritis (the wear and tear kind). Rheumatoid arthritis can lead to osteoarthritic changes, but OA does not mean you have RA. RA and OA are two completely different conditions, but many symptoms of both cross over so it's easy to confuse the two.
Avatar m tn He also suggested waiting as long as possible for knee replacement so hopefully the brace helps- he did say there were more specialized Patella support braces available also- Can you recommend any if this one seems to help the situation???
469901 tn?1276563623 In our quest to continuously improve the forums, we want to get your opinion regarding the arthritis forum. Do you think it would be beneficial to have a separate forum dedicated to Rheumatoid Arthritis? Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts with us!
209987 tn?1451935465 ) And another side comment - RA can lead to OA after years of damage. I have OA in my cervical spine (neck) which I think is probably a result of my RA. I wish you the best!
Avatar m tn my dr told me i have moderate oa. on a scale of 1 to 10. what level would moderate be?
Avatar f tn I have had mild osteoarthritis in my right hand, of and on. Now I have knee pain, both knees, elbow pain, foot pain (orthotics (4 diff pairs) haven't helped). Not severe enough to take meds. Have been sleeping on a magnetic mat for 3 years. Doesn't seem to help. Have been going to osteopath, masseur, acupuncturist, nutritionist (treating inflammation). No real relief. Other issue (related?) is poor blood circulation (circulatory disorder). Not overweight (120lbs at 5'4.
Avatar f tn After fracture union the avascular body of the talus is protected by using a patellar-tendon bearing brace. Use of this brace is continued till revascularization (blood supply to the talus body develops again) of the talus body occurs. This can take up to 3 to 4 years. I would definatly reccommend that you get a second opinion from an orthopedic surgeon, and express your concern on the development of AVN.
7486852 tn?1410352184 Yes the knee specialist I seen when I was 18 sent me for a MRI then told me i had osteoarthritis and that he could offer me steriod shots but i would be dependent on it, so I just took the pain pills which I don't take anymore because of side effects and cost. I try medicated rubs, have a knee brace for at least my left knee which is the worst. I can't do anything for more than about ten minutes without having pains like cleaning, cooking, walking, sitting, standing.
Avatar m tn I have no idea which type of Arthritis you might have (if it turns out that Arthritis is what is causing your pain you are experiencing) but a Rheumatologist is definitely who will have the answers you are searching for! I wish you the very best and HOPE you will continue to post on MH (MedHelp) and share you experiences and help others in that way. I'll be watching for your updates. :) .........
892665 tn?1259171714 We have had a series of small little storm symptoms coming in and out. I have so much OA knee pain. I was dx with OA in my knees at 17 years old. I have been dealing with it for 32 years! I have tried years of meds, heating pads, cortisone shots, weight loss, aqua aerobics, physical therapy, Synvisc etc... I have limited mobility. I can get only about a 90 degree bend in my right knee on bad days, about 95-100 degrees on good days and I can’t straighten it to save my life.
Avatar n tn It also showed some arthritis under the knee cap. The surgery included a scraping and shaping under the knee cap. After surgery there was still sensitivity on the medial side of knee. Surgeon said it was because of the way the knee was held open during surgery and it would fade. It did for a time and now it is back. If I move my left leg from left to right and have some resistance against the foot there will be a sharp pain in the medial meniscus.
Avatar m tn You need to wear a knee brace and if required your orthopedician will consider a below knee cast to help your menisci recovery. Take care!
Avatar f tn Approx 4 weeks ago, following a walk (I am a regular walker) I developed pain on the inner side of both knees. This is very painful and the bone feels very tender. In fact when it is really hurting, I can't bear anything to touch the bone on the inside of the Knee. This has been going on for approx 4 weeks now. I went to the Dr two days ago, and of course because I am overweight, this was the first thing she hit on. She said it was OA and I should lose weight.
Avatar f tn I looked palidromic arthritis up and it does sound like it could be .
Avatar m tn thought I hyperexteneded my knee but now synvisc 1 shot may be the culprit. Waiting for xray results, wearing knee brace. Any thoughts?
