Avatar f tn Easier said than done, I know, but stress is terrible for weight loss. I too have PCOS and understand your struggle. Because of the PCOS you should adopt a diet free of white carbs and lower your intake of sugar. I understand your financial situation, too. I recently had to get an EBT card to pay for food. Since you go to college do you have access to athletic areas like the track? Our local outdoor high school track is open to the public.
Avatar n tn But, it is not a consistent weight loss medication. However it does have other benefits for women with PCOS, including improving the likelihood of spontaneous ovulation, or making women who need clomid to help them ovulate more sensitive to clomid. Avatar n tn Have you been checked for PCOS, polycistic ovarian syndrome? I have read some about it, just wondering? I agree, it does sound endocrine related...I know it seemed to take a long time for my hubby to finally get his diagnoses...but, within 5 minute of his Endo Dr. meeting him...he told us what he thought he had, and the tests confirmed it...I think sometimes it takes getting to the right Dr...but, I know that can be hard to do...I am like smile2, just trying to think of diff. things...
Avatar f tn You could also ask your doc for a referral to a nutritionist, who can help you learn what foods to avoid and how to incorporate a healthy diet that will help you manage your glucose levels, and help with weight loss. Good luck, let us know how you're doing!
Avatar m tn Certain foods affect our hormones and that is how they contribute to the development of cysts. Does your friend have a condition called PCOS? Legumes, for example, are not recommended to eat because they contain lectins which can affect hormones and increase inflammation. Strawberries I would say that she should ask her nutritionist. Berries of all sorts are usually considered good for those trying to prevent cysts.
Avatar m tn The nutritionist said to try to stay around 45g of carbs for each meal and 15-20g for snacks depending on how many you eat each day. I eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I went to a nutritionist regarding my tiredness and weight loss. The nutritionist committed me to one month of perfect eating, sleeping, routine walks and no alcohol. After the month I was symptom free. No headaches, great energy, and the muscle aches have subsided. I've been maintaining the proper diet, sleep, walking and moderation on alcohol. The nutritionist suspected that I was using alcohol and pain releif in excess.
Avatar n tn My doctor just did a fasting blood test. and my insulin level was high showing i had insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn My 11 yr old daughter was recently tested for PCOS, per my request. She's had rapid weight gain since the age of 3. At best, I've been able to stablize her weight through diet and exercise, but only for a period of time. If she faulters, even slightly from healthy eating, she instantly gains weight. PCOS does run in my family - one sister was diagnosed in her early twenties, the other sister has all of the symptoms.
Avatar f tn It is good to know that you eat healthy but still take the help of a nutritionist or a dietician. Get your blood sugar tested regularly as with PCOS there is always a reason to worry about Diabetes. Talk with your gynecologist and take your medications and hormones if required. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hello! Welcome to MedHelp and thank you for posting on our forums. I'm sorry for the delay in response. This is a great question as so many and especially women eventually deal with this issue. Working with your doctor is always best and a doctor should listen to their patients. Perhaps they will still hold the idea that prescription medication is best to take, they can also be aware of your desire to avoid that and to use natural methods instead.
Avatar f tn Did any of you take or are taking Metformin (glucophage)? It made me really sick to my stomach and gave me bad diarrhea even in the middle of the night! I tried to start it on the weekend in case of these side effects and I had to stop taking it on Sunday cause i knew i wouldnt be able to work like that. If anyone is still on it did you have the same side effects or how long did it take to go away?
Avatar f tn hi there i am 20 and found out that i have pcos last december i have been trying for a baby for 2 years. i know i am quite young but fact that i have this makes my partner an i more determined. the doctor told me that the older you get the harder it is to conceive. every month when i am late i get a little glimmer of hope that is shattered when i come on. i was pregnant last year and i found out in the july but then lost it 2 months later.
Avatar n tn Greetings SFX, Hysterectomy is not standard treatment for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a disorder that stems from the ovaries. Removing your uterus will not cure PCOS. First line treatment for PCOS often includes combined hormone therapy a.k.a "birth control pills" , weight loss, evaluation for endocrine disorders such as diabetes and in the event of hirsutism (male hair pattern) spironolactone. Removal of the ovaries in the reproductive age women is associated.
Avatar f tn i was wondering if you can get pregnant having PCOS and not taking anything for the PCOS. It is probably slim to none.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you might have Polycystic Ovarian Cyst Syndrome (PCOS) and only a doctor can determine what course is right for you to take. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hello, I was wondering if you would be able to help me with the issues that ive been having for some years now not only with my health but also vaginal health. I have PCOS, was diagnosed last year on my 21st birthday, also I have recurrent Bacteria Vaginosis and no matter how many times im treated or with what antibiotic, it continues to come back as soon as i complete the medication. Ive been doing some reasearch and found there are natural supplements that may help cure it.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your post. I was just worried because I read that elevated hormones, which I get from having polycystic ovary syndrome, increase the risk of liver disease. I appreciate your post and it takes away some of my worry. Thank you again.
Avatar n tn It was originally for breast cancer, but seems to help with ovulation in pcos. From all the research ive done laprascopy is sort of the last resort. I'd try a new doc.
Avatar f tn Women who are 35+ have these risks increased, but in reality at any age you can have a baby that has birth defects. Just because you have PCOS does not mean your baby will have any birth defects. How long have you been trying for a baby? I'm 23 and haven't even started yet and I too have PCOS. I know when we do start trying it may take some time, and I'm willing to wait until I'm 30 or even old to have my first baby. Are you taking any meds to help with getting pregnant?
Avatar f tn Dont let doctors tell you that you are too young for treatment its never too early to begin treatment for pcos if it is left untreated symptoms could worsen drastically. I dont recommend buying stuff online and creating your own dosage, you dont know how your body will react to clomiphene you could over stimulate your ovulation or harm yourself, consult a different doctor, one who is willing to assist you in your conception.
483088 tn?1212346249 Dear All, Can you help me understand why the Gp thinks three ovarian cysts or right ovary and one on cervix?? si not enough for pcos?? I have history of cysts rupturing ten years ago, I have hirtuism on my face, nipples stomach and bikini area and have had since the birth of my second child 14 years ago. I have been in hospital recently with suspected kidney stones that i suspect may have been these cysts?? and now ive been started on ace inhibitors to bring down high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn t have cysts on the ovaries, then they think you have no problem. PCOS is different for everybody. Some have just the hormonal issues, some just have the cysts, and some have both. I, when I learned i had it...I have just the hormonal issue, although I suspect a cyst now due to missing my period for June. Please see your doctor so you can start treatment asap.
Avatar n tn Hi there. I am about to start metformin for my PCOS next week at the start of my new cycle. Will this help me to ovulate and help improve my chances of conceiving? We are trying for baby number two, this will be our ninth month. I was put on clomid 50mg to help us conceive our first baby two years ago. My transvaginal sonogram showed i have PCOS on my left ovary, but my right ovary was clear. I also have a tilted uterus. Would this hinder our chances of conceiving?
