Nurse overcome fear of needles

Common Questions and Answers about Nurse overcome fear of needles

fear

Avatar f tn Ok I'm a 15 year old male who has had many shots in life. Not in recent past though. My cousins always talked about fear of needles, and until that time I didn't mind them. Now they are the scariest things. At least I think remember I haven't had a shot recently except for at the dentist. I have readabout passing out when recieving a shot, although would that happen to me since I never have before? Do numbing solutions work?
Avatar f tn I myself have a fear of needles, this is my second pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Thanks, mate. Your solution sounds pretty hard but I think I could give it a try. Though my biggest fear is not the fear that I'm having, but the fear that I'll have after any medical treatment(injection, etc.) in the future. But I guess I can try not to think about it..

Avatar m tn As a retired ER nurse, I find it nearly impossible to believe that the hospital you worked at did not have an RMT (RISK MANAGEMENT TEAM) to evaluate your risk level immediately. Even before HIV was added to the "risk list," especially for healthcare workers, RMT'S were in place for dozens of other risks. I'm adding my voice to GuitarRox, Chima and AxniousNoMore.....YOU HAD NO RISK.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with diabetes, but have been afraid of needles for my whole life. Can anyone suggest any alternatives to injecting insulin, or ways to overcome this fear?
Avatar n tn Doctors dont re used needles why would they? They cost nothing not to mention they are trained not to do so. Its all in your head quite frankley. Even if they did, as zam said, HIV once exposed to air then its very unlikley to pose any risk, but the risk is nothing more than in your vivid imagination than reality.
Avatar f tn Hi, this morning I went to the hospital for the rabies vaccine, I was sitting on the chair waiting for the nurse to give me 2 dose shot, then I noticed there was a container on the floor with used needles in it, and at the last dose, I saw the nurse accidentally slightly contact the container with some sound, and I can't stop thinking what if the needles come out of the container and get in touch with me, if there a risk?
20868022 tn?1552699408 It is standard protocol to dispose of all needles in a bio hazard bin. The nurse wouldn't have had access to a used syringe for his/her own safety.
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for your responses! For someone who has a fear of all medicines, needles, doctors etc , I have been forced to come a long way. The fear of the unknown is most always worse than the reality. I'm so happy to hear that those of you did this and cleared the virus, and those who are still in tx are hanging in there. You are very inspiring and awesome to come and share your experiences with everyone.
Avatar f tn , cups, paper, sticks, trash, etc, but I have fear of it being a needle. The funny thing is, most of the time, I never review the photos; I guess just knowing I have them brings me relief. Before, I was even using a picker to pick things up off the ground, which I would store in the trunk of my car; however, I've pretty much gotten past that. It has come to the point that my condition is impacting my relationship.
Avatar m tn Hi,Recently I had my blood drawn for medical tests related to sugar levels, also had some injections ,both times failed to notice the quality of needles.Im little bit afraid.is there any risk when normal injection is taken,in the arm or in the butt.
Avatar m tn This sounds to me like a response to someone who wants help with a fear of needles, and not like a question that begs for a response? Right?
Avatar f tn Again, IV drug needles are different than blood draws. That you had a blood draw, then an HIV test because of fear of the blood draw and then renewed needle fear from the hiv test? Sounds like classic anxiety. I'd work on the anxiety. Have you posted about this on the site before now?
Avatar f tn Actually the nurse used a syringe which was kept ready to use on the table instead of picking up one from the lot.I remember another nurse picking this syringe from the lot. I also observed that syringe had the cap on it before the nurse used it on me. Now my fear or worry is as follows. 1. I have a doubt that syringe could have been used on someone who could have any disease including HIV and any possible blood infectious diseases. 2.
Avatar m tn I know that aseptic procedures have been adopted in regular hospitals, and it is very rare to reuse needles. But I still worry about the risks, especially in the case of illegal operations by nurses. I read the news before and knew that a doctor in India was sued. So I want to know, under the theoretical conditions, if the nurse reuses the needle and the needle tube and then gives the patient an intramuscular injection, is there a risk of infection? What is the principle?
Avatar m tn This is a very irrational fear that you need to let go of now. I promise that nurse did not reuse a needle on you. You have NO idea how much is it pounded into our heads, ingrained into our minds, to NEVER do something like that. It is called infection control.
Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. I have been taking advil for the pain and most times it is tolerable but now it seems to be getting worse as it is keeping me awake at night.
Avatar n tn Aside from some adversion therapy, I suppose some talk therapy could help you out, but I think it would be a waste of money. You said you also have a fear of bloodwork. Most of us with anxiety issues have fears when we go for any kind of test, be it bloodwork or an X-ray or CT......so this is also very common. You said you just had some blood work done and you obviously survived, but now you have a fear that they used a dirty needle.
Avatar m tn I think your fear of needles is complicated by HIV anxiety. I found that to be fairly obvious when you purchased two brand new, unopened and sterile syringes, but STILL had a fear they may be contaminated. This goes a bit beyond a simple phobia about syringes and enters an area of irrational/obsessive thinking. What you were doing, I believe, was an attempt, and a courageous one, of exploring what is known as "exposure therapy.
Avatar n tn I fear to go to the hospital when the blood nurse forgot to change a new blood taking needle , if others before me is an AIDS patient, I have the risk has been the blood taking needle infected with AIDS? Do I need to do an antibody detection? Please help me, thank you very much.
Avatar m tn I was trying to get assurance on one symptoms, another symptoms I will pickup from the internet, like this cycle continuing, While browsing the anxiety I came across a word Variant Angina(which is without blockage, your arteries will go to temporary spasm/stop blood) I somehow manage to overcome this fear after lot of efforts but, one setback came, that, the way to diagnose is to hyperventilate the patient & do EKg. Since then i got more feared.
Avatar m tn There has never been anyone contract HIV from a tattoo. Tattoo needles are solid needles.
Avatar n tn This is a very irrational fear that you need to let go of now. I promise that nurse did not reuse a needle on you. You have NO idea how much is it pounded into our heads, ingrained into our minds, to NEVER do something like that. It is called infection control. We abide by it.
Avatar m tn You are stuck in the viscious cycle of doubt. Needles are not reused. Have you ever been diagnosed with OCD or Anxiety in general? It is hard to say whether this is OCD or Health Anxiety.
Avatar n tn I am a nurse, and I am terrified of needles! I can give them perfectly but if you come at me with one I might pass out. I found with pregnancy (this is my second) That my fear of needles dies down a little. The first couple blood tests I get all flushed and clammy. But knowing what's coming my way with labor, needles become a minor fear. The scariest needle for me was the epidural, if it wasn't for contractions I likely would have past out!
