Novolog units

Common Questions and Answers about Novolog units

novolog

For example tonight four hours after meal I was at 280 so I tryed to correct with 5 units of novolog. Normally this should have brought my numbers down but, tonight and here laity 3 hours later i was still at 259...It's like i never tryed to correct.
The novolog pen holds 300 units, right? I tried a Novolog Jr pen a while back (thinking I might like it instead of syringes for my low-tech backup) which holds fewer units and allows 1/2 unit increments.
how many units per day are you shooting? take that number and divide into the capacity of the pen and you have your answer.
My Novolog shots don't seem to work when I take it with food resulting in a lot of high blood sugars. When I take a shot to counter the high blood sugars the shot almost always works. My endocronologist doesn't know why and has never heard of this happening unless it is do to sloww digestion. I am 35 years old and have had type 1 for 20 years. What I don't get is that if my food hasn't digested wouldn't my blood sugars crash? Instead they peak! I can't continue to have these highs.
After six month of roller coaster, my doctor put me on Novolog. When I started using Novolog, with in two hours of eating my blood sugar gets back to normal range. I can sense better if my blood sugar level starts to drop below 60.
I just started taking them like this about 6 weeks ago. I really like them!!! I take the Novolog 5 units in the morning and 5 units in the evenings, with meals. I also use a sliding scale with it. The Lantus I take just before bedtime. Right now, I'm at 25 units, from 45 units 3 weeks ago!!! I've found that when I take both just before bed, my morning fasting blood sugars are really low...like below 80. I've had it drop as low as 53. It was soo scary!!
My father was recently discharged from a nursing home and he takes 2 different kinds of insulin. Novolog 70/30 and Novolog Aspart (Sliding Scale). I've heard about sliding scale before but when i brought it up to his pharmacist she did not know much about it (got me concerned). I found this one sliding scale online, listings of how much units to give depending on what his blood sugar level is.
I just switched from NPH and one shot a day--to Lantus in the morning only, and Novolog up to 6 shots a day--and testing my blood at least 10-12 times a day--I don't see how I can determine the amount of insulin I need for each meal--counting carbs alone is not working--any ideas are welcome--as my highs and lows and inconsistency are driving me nuts---
only taking Levemier once a day at night 5 units
In the past I was put on Novolin NPH (28 units morn and 28 at bedtime) and I was taking 7 units of reg with each meal. Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched.

I accidentally gave my daughter 3 units of Novolog for her bed time insulin instead of the 3 units of Lantus in which she requires. Please advise what I should do.
I took 20 units of Novolog after I got back from lunch, just to have something in me.
if my blood sugar was146 @ 7:42pm and i took my 6 units of novolog before i ate and i take 18 units of lantus before bed is it ok to take it now?
Because my BS level was so high before I went to bed this night, I injected an additional 15 units of Novolog at the same time I injected the 70 units of Lantus. The sweets I ate at the party took their toll on my body.
Normally your care provider would have provided you with instructions. Didn't instructional paperwork accompany the pen? Contact your care provider for the proper amount [units] designated for you. Then Google search "how to use novolog flex pen" [w/o the " " [quotes]], scroll down and click the link to [PDF] NovoLog Flex Pen. You'll need a .pdf reader to read it. If you don't have one, go to Adobe and download and install the free pdf file reader.
I am a type 1 diabetic and accidently took 6 units of Lantus instead of Novolog, shat should I do?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone might know if there is any illness that can cause a rapid drop in blood sugars. I have gone from 20 units of novolog before meals to 6 units of novolog before meals in 3 weeks. What can cause this? Still eating same as always. Thank you for your time!!
A young woman, who spent quite a bit of time with me. I really liked her. She put me on Byetta (5 units before breakfast and dinner), and she changed my Novolog insulin sliding scale. Eventually she would like for me to switch to Lantus, but in the meantime, I need to take at least 20 units before each meal, no matter what my BS is. Then she wants me to increase the units based on my levels using this formula: BS minus 150 / 10 for example: BS = 224 - 150 = 74 /10 = 7.
I corrected with approximately 20 units of Novolog insulin. After church was done, still in the 400s. The endocrinologist on call helped me try to trouble shoot and figure out what the heck was going on. After struggling all day, at 3 p.m. she told me to change my pod for my pump. That seems to have done the trick, but I am super annoyed that the dumb thing never alarmed that it had malfunctioned. BOOO. Tomorrow is another day, and it can only get better, right?
My doseage of novolog is 4 units before meals so is that how much regular insulin I should take?
I was just started on insulin 3 days ago. The doctor had me take 5 units of novolog 3 times a day with 1 unit for every 50 points above 150, and then I take 15 units of Lantus at bedtime. For the past 3 days I have been checking my levels 6 to 7 times a day and they have been between 167 and 297 and I can't seem to get them below. What can I do without taking more insulin?
I take mixtard 24 units at noon and 22 units at 9pm sleep is normally from 2am to 9am
now 4 years later iam battling it im on a slide scale 3 times a day i went to my doctor hes taken me off the metformen i was taken 2000 mg a day and has now added another insilun to the factor so now what he wants me to do is take my 3 shots a day of the novolog then at bed time he wants me to take 20 units of Lantus he says this is a long acting insilun and can work with the novolog insilun...sounds scary to me 2 diff insiluns dunno.
Hi Snowbunnyy, Nice to hear your voice again. As you know we're all volunteers here, so check out our ideas with your CDE or endo. This msg is long cuz it takes a lotta words to decribe & justify what I'd like to share with you. Hope it's helpful. I'm a pumper and use Novalog, too. I use a Cozmo pump, but the concepts are the same.
I accidently took 25 units of novolog for my l0:00 shot instead of lantus. what could have happened and what should I have done after the fact? I ate alot of icecream and candybars until I threw that up! I ended up with a blood sugar reading of around 40 and a rapid heart beat. Please let me know asap.
Hi, I am 32 year old. I am type 1 diabetic from the past 5.5 years. I use Novolog 70/30 insulin. I have one question about blood glucose reading. I take dinner at 8:30 PM and took 15 units of insulin and after two hours at 10:30 PM, when I checked my glucose level, it showed 195 and I went to bed at 11:00 PM. I went to low glucose level at 3:15 AM and when I checked the reading, it was 53 and I had some snake and went to bed. I checked my reading again in the morning at 8:00 AM and it was 106.
INJECTING 75 UNITS AFTER BRKFAST, 70 UNITS AFTER DINNER, SUGAR LEVELS OUT OF CONTROL - AVERAGE 250! NOTICED THAT OFTEN WHEN I "TEST" USING 2 UNITS .. A LARGE STREAM OF INSULIN IS EJECTED!! APPARENTLY? THE PRIOR INJECTION ... THE INSULIN STAYED IN THE CARTRIDGE ?? , BLOCKED NEEDLE??
I know this is different for everyone - but generally, what is the ratio for the # of mg/dml units dropped by 1 unit of insulin. Like Humalog U100 R. Does anyone know? Lilly (the mfg. of Humalog) said that they didn't have those numbers (I didn't believe that). Just curious. I asked a Diabetes Trainers from my hospital and she didn't have an idea either.
I am taking now lantus 25 units at night, and the last bottle of novolog regular i have been using the sliding scale last DR. gave.
