Type 2. taking 20 units of Lantus at 6 PM. and told to take my Novolog on a sliding scale and given the sliding scale. 1 unit for every 50mg/dl over 100 mg/dl. Problem being I am always 100 + - before meals and don't need insulin. So when do I take the Novolog? I been waiting 2 hrs and using it to get from my normal 250 - 300 (After meals) down to an acceptable level.<140.
In the past I was put on Novolin NPH (28 units morn and 28 at bedtime) and I was taking 7 units of reg with each meal. Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched.
My doseage of novolog is 4 units before meals so is that how much regular insulin I should take?
I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. I've had diabetes for many years, but never knew for sure which one! My dr would switch my diagnosis all the time. But went to endo and they did a blood test, and said I'm type 1. I'm angry my dr. never did anything about this.

By the above formula, taking one unit of Humalog would drop my bloodsugar by 60 mg/dl. This is way too high. 10 units would put me at a drop of 600. I've take as much as 10 units of humalog with a bloodsugar drop of maybe 40-50 mg/dl.
Am I reading this correctly?
I have a NovoLog FlexPen with 100 units which stopped working after about 1/3 of the insulin had been dispensed. It simply stopped releasing the insulin left in the pen. I pay a lot for these pens since my insurance only covers about half the cost. I took it to my pharmacy who said I must get it from Novo Nordisk, Inc. How can I get a replacement?
About a month ago I started taking 36 Units of Lantus at bedtime using the Opticlik Cartridge Delivery System and during the day I use Novolog Insulin throaway Flex Pen and that is 12 units before I eat anything. I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???.
how many units per day are you shooting? take that number and divide into the capacity of the pen and you have your answer.
Has anyone done this, and know how I could go about trying it? I take 40 units of Lantus at noon every day, and sliding scale of Novolog. My sugar was 199 when I went to sleep last night, and 356 when I woke up!
I was not getting into single figures on the dose pescribed and upping it (now by 2 units) has not helped. Novorapid sort of keeps it under control at meals but my base rate is simply not adequate. When I eat I eat incredibly healthily, I exercise daily, and I am not drinking alcohol, but at present I find I am hardly eating at all in the day to try and keep things under control. I am headachy and worried. My specialist can't see me until next month, can you advise what might be goinmg on?
My Novolog shots don't seem to work when I take it with food resulting in a lot of high blood sugars. When I take a shot to counter the high blood sugars the shot almost always works. My endocronologist doesn't know why and has never heard of this happening unless it is do to sloww digestion. I am 35 years old and have had type 1 for 20 years. What I don't get is that if my food hasn't digested wouldn't my blood sugars crash? Instead they peak!
