Novolog insulin pump

Common Questions and Answers about Novolog insulin pump

novolog

Avatar m tn Sorry this is such a late response, but no, Humilin R (regular insulin) is not a substitue for Novolog, which is a fast acting insulin. However, her insulin supply is still good for up to 30 days after taking it out of refrigeration. Hope she made it there OK and you had a nice visit.
Avatar n tn My doctor actually switched me from Humolog to Novolog. I do not use a pen, but I am a pump user and the Humolog was hard on my skin, while the Novolog doesn't seem to cause as much redness, swelling and irritation. They are both fast acting regular insulins. I would be interested in hearing more about the specific problems your are having with the quality and the impact on your diabetes.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if anyone else has to change sites so often, and whether it could be the insulin (humalog)? We love the flexibility and precision of the pump, but this has been difficult.
Avatar n tn I use a sliding scale of Humalog at mealtimes and I use 14 units of Lantis each evening. Lantis is a 24 cylce insulin or a long acting insulin where Humalog is short term or short acting insulin. But this just shows you that different people have different needs. Before I used Lantis I used to use NPH-which is a shorter long acting inuslin-more like 8 hours. Have you tried giving your Novolin before you eat?
Avatar n tn I had to go on county insurance because I lost my job, and they wont cover Humalog or Novolog. The only fast acting insulin they cover is Novolin R. The problem is that I am on an insulin pump. I know this stuff is different than what I was taking (Humalog, or the equivelent Novolog), but I don't know what it is going to do to me. My doctor isn't knowledgable and I'm stuck with her. I can't go anywhere else.
Avatar n tn Has anyone out there gotten any skin reactions with using the Minimed pump or Novolog insulin? My wife has started getting awful welts on her stomach and even her leg and we were wondering if anyone else has had this problem. The welt is terrible swelling at the injection site and I've done some research and it looks like the Novolog is the problem, but it could also be the pump. Anyone else had this happen? Thanks.
Avatar n tn t afford the novolog so while have to buy regular insulin to replace the rapid acting insulin. My doseage of novolog is 4 units before meals so is that how much regular insulin I should take?
Avatar n tn For the first year I was using it by shots, but the last two years I have been using it in an insulin pump. In the last three to four months I have developed intense itching at the infusion site when I change it. For about 36 hours it itches so much I have scratched it to bleeding. In the last few weeks it has begun itching almost as soon as I put in a new canula. All the novolog materials say this is rare and uncommon but should go away as your body gets use to the insulin.
Avatar n tn If your total daily dose of insulin were 30, then 1800 divided by 30 = 60, meaning that 1 unit of Humalog or Novolog would drop your blood glucose approximately 60 mg/dl. Not that I would use this sensitivity calculation to get the amount of insulin I would need to lower my BG (fear of over-bolus because I have insulin still in me). My pump does that calculation and so far has kept me in the mid-80s to lmid-90s reliably. Just wanted to know what the general ratio was out of curiosity.
Avatar n tn And a shot of Humalog or Novolog before each meal. Doing this would minimise the carb/insulin mismatch when you skip a meal. The basal/bolus regimen would give you more flexibility and better control. You may want to discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Although I'm not a juvenile, I'm 26 years old and have recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I just stumbled upon this forum and think it's great. Since being diagnosed, I've been taking it pretty well. I inject 24-hour Lantus (basal) insulin once before bed. Before each meal, I inject with a NovoLog insulin pen, one unit for every 30g of carbs I'll be consuming.
Avatar n tn Most diabetics in America who take injections rather than using a pump use Lantus once or twice a day and a quick-acting insulin like Novolog before meals. We do not normally take NPH with the Lantus, for they do similar things. Once the Lantus dose is right, NPH becomes unnecessary. I would suggest that you discuss this with her endo.
1273125 tn?1365077526 We agreed that if my mealtime numbers continued to be high that we would use a bolus insulin such as Novolog. I contacted her and she was going to call in the Novolog. My numbers have remained high and I am begining to worry about long term effects. The physician decided that this was not the best course of treatment and stopped the script. I waited for an hour at the pharmacy. I called the next morning and we kind of had issues.
Avatar n tn Hi, my name is Paige and my son is 9 years old. He has been a diabetic for 3 years now. His last a1c was 8.2 which is 1 point higher than the last result. I'm a registered nurse but I feel helpless and unable to manage my son's diabetes effectively at times. The physician we saw last week has highly recommended an insulin pump for him. Although I'm convienced it will probably work great I'm very scared he's not ready for a $5000.00 piece of equipment.
Avatar n tn My father was recently discharged from a nursing home and he takes 2 different kinds of insulin. Novolog 70/30 and Novolog Aspart (Sliding Scale). I've heard about sliding scale before but when i brought it up to his pharmacist she did not know much about it (got me concerned). I found this one sliding scale online, listings of how much units to give depending on what his blood sugar level is.
Avatar m tn Normally your care provider would have provided you with instructions. Didn't instructional paperwork accompany the pen? Contact your care provider for the proper amount [units] designated for you. Then Google search "how to use novolog flex pen" [w/o the " " [quotes]], scroll down and click the link to [PDF] NovoLog Flex Pen. You'll need a .pdf reader to read it. If you don't have one, go to Adobe and download and install the free pdf file reader.
Avatar m tn Me to have had type i for thirty year my ac are better controlled with a insulin pump fill better now i get my humalog all the time.I was in a motocross crash in 2013 broke my clavicle all my ribs ripped my right lung hurt my pelvis and both hips 36 hours major surgeries 16 months of physical therapy.now i have diabetic neuropathy.legs are numb and feet are always hurting and cold and numb.but my blood sugars are always good my last a1c was 6.9 vs 11 five years ago when i got on a pump.
Avatar n tn Oldstuff, Logan would have produced some of his own insulin for some time after being diagnosed. This can go on for years. And it is probably why he was able to achieve good control with supplemental insulin. At this stage, he must be totally dependent on injected insulin. Which makes controlling blood sugar levels a lot more difficult. And it calls for a regimen that gives Logan more control. Biphasic and Regular insulin simply doesn't do that.
Avatar f tn If you continue to be ill with symptoms that feel like the flu or vomiting, you need to go to the ER, because you could be suffering from DKA which happens from prolonged numbers that high and it can be very dangerous. Drinking water helps. Just keep working at getting it down and it should start to improve soon as you are back on the Levemir.
Avatar n tn If I had a choice between properly maintaining my blood sugars through insulin therapy or rolling the dice and skipping insulin for a few hours. Doing that too often isn't worth the risk, im my opinion. Have you ever considered the pump? Since it would be attached to you, you'd have a lot harder time forgetting it.
Avatar n tn For the past year, I have been taking Novolog Insulin in combination with Lantus. I have noticed the beginning stages of cellulite around the areas where I give the Novolog injection. I am a 27 year old, juvenile onset diabetic. I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
Avatar n tn Hi again, PlantDoc, Sheesh, how frustrating! I'm also a pumper and found that this book was very helpful for me. It's at many bookstores, including Amazon.com and might be in a local JDRF resource room, too. It's called, Pumping Insulin, Everything you need to Know for Success with an Insulin Pump, by Ruth Roberts & John Walsh. The most current edition is from 2000, I think. There are folks who do better on shots than with the pump and you might be one of them.
Avatar n tn No one can really tell us how to test active insulin for him on a pump. This is not an easy subject to find much info on. Is it different for everyone? Any idea's?
Avatar n tn 12. He goes to school all day, and sometimes gets hungry and I am wondering if it is necessary always for him to take insuling even for snacks? Any ideas/input would be appreciated.
