In the past I was put on Novolin NPH (28 units morn and 28 at bedtime) and I was taking 7 units of reg with each meal. Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched.
The pills was what i was on first before i was pregnant i don't know why they don't want us to take the pills. I would talk to the main doctor too. You don't have another hospital to go to. I live in the city and I can think of 4 high risk so that's why I was able to switch. I hope and pray it works out because it can be stressful and I don't want that for you and your baby.
About a month ago, my doctor changed my long acting insulin from Novolin NPH to Lantus. This completely threw me off and I ended up being woken up by paramedics 3 times in 1 week. My blood sugar would be normal before bed and then by morning it had gone to 1.8. When I would eat a snack before bed to keep my blood sugar from dropping, I would go high - 13.0-15.0 on average. My doctor has now switched me back to my Novolin NPH and I am still having a hard time getting back on track.

They carry it under the Relion name, but it is the same as Humulin N, which is another nph insulin, similar to novolin. Most dogs do well on either Novolin N or Humulin N. Personally, I found Humulin N to work better for my dog. The cost of a bottle of insulin at WalMart is about $25 compared to $50 for the same thing at a regular retail pharmacy.

Before I used Lantis I used to use NPH-which is a shorter long acting inuslin-more like 8 hours. Have you tried giving your Novolin before you eat? I figure out how many carbohydrates I will eat and then give my dose accordingly-before I eat my meal. For every 12 grams of carbohydrates I take one unit of Humalog. I then do not go from high to low and do not have to play a game of catch up.
I think the problem centers on the fac that she is on Novolog and NPH in the morning and then she is on Novolog and Lantusin the evening. NPH lasts 12-18 hours and Lantus lasts 18-26 hours. I think those doses are overlapping. My question to the Dr. would be why is she on Lantus and NPH??!?!?!?!?

The doctors are saying that she has Normal Pressure Hydochephalus, but she is also exhibiting symptoms unrelated to NPH. Her reflexes are very jumpy and her walking is very choppy. She explains that when she is sitting for long periods or lays down to go to sleep her quad muscles tighten uncomfortably. My grandson is a Type 1 diabetic. He takes Lantus at night, NPH and Humalog at Breakfast, and Humalog at evening meal. He measures his blood sugar six time a day: 7:30am (breakfast), 9:30 am, noon, 5:30 pm (dinner), 7:30 pm, and 9:30 pm. My concern is the apparent difference in effectiveness of the Humalog which he takes at 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. He measures his blood sugar two hours after taking the Humalog (@ 9:30 am and @ 7:30 pm).
Hello I am new to novolin My Dr has me on 15 units twice a day after being on lantus for 1 year and it just did not work at all for me under 29 units was not enough and over 20 units bottomed my sugar out
My question is and this also did this when i was on lantus is it normal after injecting yourself with insulin that my blood sugar spikes up I am talking it can be 150 and after the injection it will jump up to 300 with in 3 hours is this normal or is it just me I know I am not making sense
Im a type 1 diabetic, since 1991, and have been on NPH since 1998. Last November i had a huge problem, a bad low, which caused me to hallucinate, then sadly my new wife got hurt. Then this continued until march when then i was told my body was rejecting the NPH, is this common? My wife has since filed for divorce, i am now on new insulin, Lantus, and i cant even talk with her.

He is doing fine but I am having problems trusting the Lantus - when his b/s drops below 100, I want to give him a can of apple juice, and of course that causes a moderate high. My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 5 years old. She has been giving NPH with Humalog. It hasn't been working much though because she's high most of the time even when we watch what she eats and exercises. It just doesn't make much sense why the NPH isn't working anymore. She's on a sliding scale for Humalog and she gives a shot of 40 units of NPH in the morning.
I went back to my NovoRapid, Novolin NPH routine. Will see how I feel in a couple of days. Today went well. I want to find out before discussion with the dr. if this could be the problem, otherwise they will have nothing to compare it to because as I am finding out there are many different reactions as there are people. My dad had NPH last year and LP shunt was placed but now he is again experiencing the same symptoms and how the neurologist suggests us to have him placed VP shunt . Will this work for him. Please answer me it will be your great help.
I switched from lantus to novolog and the doses are different, I then switched to the 70/30 novolin (relion brand from wal mart) as it was much cheaper and the dose once again changed, although I am type 2 and monitor my levels closely, all insulin brands work differently so be careful and consult Dr.
I did finally settle on the 70/30 mix, you can get the pens but it is much cheaper to just inject yourself, I get the needles that are the same size as the pens.....
Yes, I am now careful even with NPH. It is not as good as Lantus and overnight is the rough time. I find NPH plus an extre evening Humalog inhjection (4 per day) works best. I have considered a pump, but 5 injections probably give me the same coverage, and are more convienient.
On another note, I am thinking of starting a disbetes support group in my area for long time type 1 diabetics. I would like to hear from anyone else who may have experience with such a group.
