Avatar f tn Most dogs do well on either Novolin N or Humulin N. Personally, I found Humulin N to work better for my dog. The cost of a bottle of insulin at WalMart is about $25 compared to $50 for the same thing at a regular retail pharmacy. 7. There are many diets you can use. You are not limited to w/d, which the vets seem to push! I don't know if your dog vomited because he didn't like the w/d, but maybe you have an idea about why that happened. It may have been because his sugar was high.
Avatar f tn I am battling the same issue but for the last three weeks I have been doing well. I take Novolin N and Novolin R. I found that the issue was more food than the dosage. As the pregnancy progresses the doctor told me I may require more but i have been balancing good on 20 n and 10 r in the am and 12 and 12 at night.
Avatar f tn In the past I was put on Novolin NPH (28 units morn and 28 at bedtime) and I was taking 7 units of reg with each meal. Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched.
Avatar f tn Hello I am new to novolin My Dr has me on 15 units twice a day after being on lantus for 1 year and it just did not work at all for me under 29 units was not enough and over 20 units bottomed my sugar out My question is and this also did this when i was on lantus is it normal after injecting yourself with insulin that my blood sugar spikes up I am talking it can be 150 and after the injection it will jump up to 300 with in 3 hours is this normal or is it just me I know I am not making sense
Avatar m tn I switched from lantus to novolog and the doses are different, I then switched to the 70/30 novolin (relion brand from wal mart) as it was much cheaper and the dose once again changed, although I am type 2 and monitor my levels closely, all insulin brands work differently so be careful and consult Dr. I did finally settle on the 70/30 mix, you can get the pens but it is much cheaper to just inject yourself, I get the needles that are the same size as the pens.....
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm a 36 yr old male, T1 diabetic since age 14. I'm currently taking Novolin N & R, 3 shots a day. I'm switching my insulin to Lantas and Novalog (4 shots per day). I have a couple questions that I didn't have time to ask the dr. yet. 1) Do I still make adjustments on the novalog according to my BS readings before eating? Ex: If it's high, do I take more than prescribed? 2) Do I make adjustments for a heavy day of exercise?
Avatar n tn 00 at night...His readings are a bit higher than recommended in the morning...I don't know...we've been working on this for a while now...we havent seen much improvement...is it the Novolin that's the problem? The time we give the insulin maybee? We're all very new to this and I learn everyday...It's quite a change of life for my little one and our familly...
Avatar f tn He was very sick but Vet got him stable after 3 days. He was prescribed Humalin-N which cost me $167. I live on a $900 SS income and when the Humalin ran out, I changed to Novolin $25 at Walmart. He has been on it for 4 days. Today I noticed he is drinking much more water and is urinating more. I did a check with the test strips and it read approx. 500 in glucose andbetween 40 to 80 in ketones. Now, I am so worried that I did wrong by changing his insulin.
Avatar m tn My dr wants me to change from a sliding scale to taking Novolin 3 units each meal. Consistency is so important. Then another week I am changing to Lantus once a day from taking Levimir 2x a day. Change is hard for me but I need to remember to stay with my carbs small amount and protein and fat.
Avatar n tn I use a vial. Novolin says unopened vials shall be kept at temperatures below 30°C (86°F) for up to 28 days in the refrigerator, but should not be exposed to excessive heat or sunlight. Open vials may be refrigerated too. My pharmacist states that if I do not wish to refrigerate it my room temp of 50-70° is just fine for storage.

Avatar m tn Duration of action is different for different insulins. We have rapid acting; older insulin Humalin-N has an onset of 15 - 30 minutes compared to the modern insulins such as Aspart (novorapid for me) and Humalog, which have an onset of about 10 - 15 minutes. Moderate acting insulins are the ones we use for basal (background) insulin. Examples are Humalin-R (older insulin), levemir, lantus etc. Then we have the action profile: whether there is a peak or not.
Avatar f tn The last doctor I was seeing he put me on- Novolog sliding scale with each meal and at bedtime, Novolin N 10 units before meals, Lantus 40 units twice daily, 2000 mg of glucophage, asa daily, lisinopril a day. My blood sugar still runs between 250-500. I take my medication everyday (the best of my ability and what I can afford), exercise 30 min a day (walking), and watch what I eat. I recently had staph in my left kidney, and I have a cyst on my right one.
Avatar n tn Before I used Lantis I used to use NPH-which is a shorter long acting inuslin-more like 8 hours. Have you tried giving your Novolin before you eat? I figure out how many carbohydrates I will eat and then give my dose accordingly-before I eat my meal. For every 12 grams of carbohydrates I take one unit of Humalog. I then do not go from high to low and do not have to play a game of catch up.

Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosised with Type 1 Diabetes Aug 2008. We have learned how to inject insulin and check her blood sugar numbers. We keep her on a pretty strick diet to ensure that we keep her Blood Sugar Numbers between 80-180. The past two days she has been very low. We have tried to make sure that the insulin that we give her is only enough to cover the food that she has eaten. However, just today, she woke up with her blood sugar #s at 64. She ate about 32 carbs for breakfast.
Avatar f tn I have on and off taken N+ no more that 16 a day at my worse for about 6 months. I also drink heavily. I have had a wake up call and want to give both up (I gave up alcohol for first 2 weeks of Jan so I know I can do it!) I took 8 in total yesterday the last 4 at 12 midday. I am determined not to take any more from now on. I have never looked up until now the awful things that can happen. I am really scared I have damaged my body can any one advise me...
Avatar f tn m 37 weeks pregnant and we finally decided on the name. Natalie. But I was thinking of spelling it Natalia. Since its not very commonly spelled that way. And people can still call her Natalie. I am hispanic. So Natalia sounds prettier in Spanish I think. So will people or school kids be thrown off by Natalia? And not know what to call her. I want her to use either name. If she wants too. I'm wondering it this possible if I spell it natalia? So Natalie or Natalia? What sounds better?
Avatar m tn I was 19 when i started taking n+ now i want out but i am scared of detox anyone who could give my advice how 2 stick it out please
Avatar n tn s likely on a blend of long acting and short acting insulin, such as Novolin 70/30. There may be other insulin therapies available for him that will give him better control. Talking with a a diabetes health educator may also be beneficial, so that he knows how much insulin to take with a particular meal. The next time you go visit him for a few days, try to have him schedule a medical appointment during your stay. Then you can go with him and let the doctor know about your anxiety.
1367276 tn?1278801812 My goal was to get away from all or most of my meds (especially the shots) and before finding out I was pregnant I dropped from 20 units regular insulin before meals, sliding scale regular insulin throughout the day, 50 units Novolin N, 500 mg metaformin 2 x daily, and glimepride to just sliding scale insulin and 500 mg of metaformin 2 x daily. Of course now I am just on insulin and having a difficult time as I am more resistant it seems.
