Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc not working

norvasc

Avatar f tn 1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?
572651 tn?1530999357 I was taking Norvasc and did not experience any change in my bladder issues. I was switched to different calcium channel blocker and it didn't impact my bladder either. However, I would definitely follow-up as planned because it may a contributing factor. Different drugs affect different people in different ways. I wish you luck on finding a solution!

Avatar f tn I am 32 yr old female who has been taking a diuretic since I was 20 for HBP. Now I am also on norvasc which isn't working and is causing angina. The doctor has tried me on several meds with little to no results or severe side effects that made not able to take a cpl of them. I've only had a CMP and CBC done for tests. I've been to him every month for the past year now and he just switches me to a new med without testing anything.
Avatar f tn Some calcium channel blockers can affect heart rate and are not indicated for use with beta blockers. Norvasc does not have that conflict. You also might ask about a low dose diuretic such as Hydrochlorothiazide provided there are no contraindication to its use with your health history.
Avatar n tn Is okay to take 2.5 mg of Norvasc, 120mg Cardizem and Topamax? This discussion is related to Discontinuation of Norvasc.
Avatar f tn I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.
Avatar n tn I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....
976897 tn?1379167602 Those I believe are calcium channel blockers? not beta blockers, they are very different. It has basically been agreed by my regular Doctor and Cardiologist that I do not have spasms, so I was allowed to stop taking those. Calcium channel blockers work in a different way. When arteries want to narrow, they use the layer of muscle along the wall to constrict it. To do this, the muscle obtains calcium from the blood, by drawing it through tiny channels in the artery lining.
Avatar f tn It was decided to add Norvasc 5mg INSTEAD of Nifedipine, since Norvasc was used/tolerated well in the past. Began taking Norvasc 5mg along with Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg (all 1x daily) approximately 3 days ago, and the blood pressure is still running extremely high. This morning reading was 186/85 and tonight 176/110!!! Worried that this can be dangerous. What should be done? How long until the BP goes to a "normal" range? Does the doctor need to increase the Norvasc dosage?
Avatar f tn When I take the generic for Norvasc, my feet swell; this does not happen when I do not take the medication. Will natural diaretics help with this. My diastolic pressure hovers around 90; systolic comes down easily with the Norvasc; diastolic is slower to respond.
Avatar f tn My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
2095551 tn?1333122531 There are other calcium channel blockers like Norvasc out there that may not produce as much swelling. I would talk to your doctor to see if there is a different medication you could try. You also might want to consider adding a beta blocker like atenolol especially if you have a high pulse rate as this can cause your blood pressure to be higher.
Avatar m tn doctors usually try to overcome this by not taking the blood pressure reading right away but chatting first -- this does not always suffice I suggest you record your blood pressure readings (along with the time, date) taken away from the anxiety provoking setting (eg. the doctor's office), and provide a copy to your doctor.
Avatar m tn I've been on 50mg of Atenolol for years, and it's done the job well enough. In the past six-eight months or so, I've noticed that my blood pressure has been having a hard time getting under 140/80. It gets under, but it doesn't stay there for very long. When I told my cardiologist, he said we should try to up my Atenolol. I declined to do so because Atenolol gives me brachycardia to the point where my pulse can be as low as the high 40s when I'm sleeping.
Avatar n tn I suffered with angina for several years. Recently, I had angina that would wake me out of a dead sleep. It was diagnosed as vasospasms. I was put on Norvasc a month ago. I haven't has any angina, stable or variant. Norvasc works great for me. I have some swelling and slight dizziness with the Novasc, but the benefits far out weigh the side effects.
Avatar n tn The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
Avatar n tn m also taking Norvasc. Should these medications be taken together? The Norvasc was prescribed a number of years ago by a different doctor for Migraine prevention. It hasn't helped my migraines but I've continued to take it. Since they are both blood pressure meds, I'm doubtful I should take both.
672586 tn?1280933658 You are changing from one class of heart medicine to another. I would question the abrupt withdrawal directly with your doctor, and perhaps I'd ask your pharmacist about the possible problems. Also, a Cardiologist might have important imput in this decision.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy 7 years ago and I have not been on HRT. the cardiologist says if the norvasc doesnt work they might do an ablation. my questions: 1. do you think the lack of estrogen in my system could have caued all of this? 2. does the norvasc work right away, or does it take a while to build up. what is the recommended dose. I just started the pills 2 days ago, and I am still having a lot of chest pain.
Avatar n tn I've been taking amlodipine besylate (norvasc) for about 1 and a half months. For the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing very strong anxieties, panic attacks, and a totally sleepless night. I'd been on testim for years now as well and wonder if either one or a combination can be causing them.
Avatar m tn It has been working for me without questions. I am on Cholesterol meds and hypertension meds(Metoprolol, Altace and Norvasc) which I have been taking for the last two years. Recently I used some viagra two hours before an encounter with my date. I started drinking after the taking the Viagra. The viagra did not work....I took another one and waited awhile and it still didn't work...I took one more and waited a while with no results....

I have talked with him about this and he referred me to my PCP, which does not make sense. Isn't he suppose to know what medicines are best for the kidney's? Help! Thank you for your response.
