Norvasc low blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc low blood pressure

norvasc

Avatar m tn I've been on 50mg of Atenolol for years, and it's done the job well enough. In the past six-eight months or so, I've noticed that my blood pressure has been having a hard time getting under 140/80. It gets under, but it doesn't stay there for very long. When I told my cardiologist, he said we should try to up my Atenolol. I declined to do so because Atenolol gives me brachycardia to the point where my pulse can be as low as the high 40s when I'm sleeping.
Avatar f tn My mother is diagnose with unstable angina a month a ago and the doctor asked us to monitor her blood pressure since she is discharged from the hospital her blood pressure is always normal but there are sometimes that her bp is 100/50 and last day her bp is 120/40 she is 71 years old and taking medications such as norvasc. lipitor, aspirin, imdur or ISMN and losartan. Please help me is it normal for her age? Thank you...
Avatar m tn Your doctor is usually seeking what you usual (low) blood pressure is, as a general indicator of your heart health and also part of the reasoning for a need for BP meds (especially high BP puts your organs, especially the kidneys, at risk of severe organ damage). You're on BP meds? (other than your anxiety in medical offices) Have you a recognized condition that's causing high BP (such as: obesity, diabetes, genetics, a heart or other medical condition)?
Avatar n tn Hello, What the doctor means to check is for phreochromocytoma. Pheochromocytoma is a neoplasm of the adrenal medulla. Only 10% of adrenal pheochromocytomas are malignant, while the rest are benign tumors. They may lead to potentially life-threatening high blood pressure, or cardiac arrythmias, and numerous symptoms such as headache, palpitations, anxiety attacks, sweating, weight loss, and tremor.
Avatar f tn In fact, I have been taking this for the past 5 years. However, my blood pressure is still on the high side, i.e. 145 to 150 over 90 to 95, and I need to bring it further down. I'm a male, 40 years of age. Unfortunately, I do not exercise regularly, though, I'm in good shape with no medical problems, and do feel great! It is worth mentioning that I'm not an MD but, a Ph.D.
Avatar f tn Do any of you all take this combo?? Just wondering if all of these made your blood pressure drop too low? Thanks for input!
2095551 tn?1333122531 I am also on Norvasc, 5 mg per day. I also take atenolol which is a beta blocker. I haven't noticed too much swelling (except in my hands at times) on the 5 mg of Norvasc and I tried 10 mg awhile back but it didn't reduce my blood pressure by much and I was worried about the increased swelling. However, adding 25 mg of atenolol significantly lowered my blood pressure into the normal range 95% of the time.
Avatar n tn Your blood pressure needs to be well controlled and you should be on a BETA-BLOCKER with high BP and an aortic aneurysm. Generally amiodarone is only given short term and I would discuss the med changes with the cardiologist.
1890453 tn?1321074646 Someone else may correct me on this, but I would have thought with such low blood pressure, you are at quite low risk. Your arteries are quite relaxed and not under the stress that mine are for example. My blood pressure is not far off double yours. When I had my first heart attack I used to think negative thoughts from the moment I woke up, such as, will I have another heart attack today, will I have a stroke. Nearly 5 years later I'm wondering why I bothered with that anxiety.
120574 tn?1240767840 I think I am having high blood pressure from Avastin, what medication are Dr's giving for this? Anyone know?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with hypertension/high BP in June when the nurse at work sent me to ER with a BP of 210/120. I was immediately put on Norvasc 10mg and HCTZ 25mg daily. My pressure came down to 160/80 and after seeing my doc he said come back in 6 months. After questioning why I had high blood pressure and not getting any answers I asked to see another doc and he added Lisinopril 10mg and said come back in 6 months. Since then BP has been steady at 130's/40's.
976897 tn?1379167602 I went to my pharmacy yesterday who said he would gladly check my blood pressure. I sat in a chair relaxed for 15 mins, and he then took 3 readings which were.... 135/102...136/98....134/104 As you can see, my systolic is fine, but the diastolic is a nightmare. All the blood pressure meds I take obviously lower both the diastolic and systolic, and they make me light headed by the time the diastolic drops enough. I can't see any meds which affect just diastolic?
Avatar f tn Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.
1243333 tn?1296446902 I have extensive CAD with mutiplable stent placement in the past 22 months, and have high blood pressure (Usally 180/110 And higher), what effect does the high blood pressure have on CAD and angina. I am on bp meds. (norvasc, imdur, toprol XL, spirolactone, valturna, cattapress tts, iron, dexilant & carfate).

Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with spastic angina. i have blood pressure 116 over 72 angiogram shows no problem with cholesterol 2.5 on test. i have been given norvasc and lipitol ?
1260320 tn?1270394906 Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!
Avatar n tn I just have occasionally high blood pressure. Believe me I am as confused as you. That is why I am asking if it is okay to take Topamax for my migraines and Norvasc and Cardizem for my heart. I haven't spoke with a pharmacist as of yet. I will pick up the Norvasc today.
Avatar m tn Hello, My mother is 74 years old and has a history of strokes. We suspect she may have had one of them as recently as two months ago (a minor one?). She has had a problem with high blood pressure and wide pulse pressure (at least 160's/40's or 50's) with her top number as high as 200 once but usually in the 160's without her Norvasc 2.5mg and her bottom number usually in the 50's with or without Norvasc.
Avatar f tn We all have different blood pressure response towards stress. Usually the spikes in the blood pressure will decrease with better physical condition levels and of course with living a healthy life without anxiety and with minimal stress. Further I can't understand why you keep measuring your blood pressure during stressful events, like if someone say something cruel to you. What do you expect? Of course your blood pressure will be elevated. Mine would too.
404682 tn?1324579818 Hello, My name is Pat and I was recently diagnosed with High BP which has me a bit confused. I had 4 high reading at 3 times but the rest of the time it stayed within the 120s low 130s. The issue is that I'll go along fine and then wham my blood pressure will spike out of nowhere to 170/102 so my dr decided to start me on meds. I started taking norvasc 2.5 mgs at night because my BP is really high when I wake up.
Avatar n tn Isosrbide is a long acting type of nitrate for chest pain Plavix is a blood thinner Coreg is a beta blocker to lower blood pressure and help with the heart rate and rhythm Zantac is to help with heartburn Norvasc is a calcium channel blocker to help lower blood pressure and help with angina (I take this for heart spasms) Lotensin is also used to treat high blood pressure I hope this helps you some. How is your husband's cholesterol?
Avatar m tn I have a high blood pressure and I have been to both an endocrinologist and an otorhinolaryngologist several times within this month. What is the most likely reason I have the high blood pressure? Hashimoto disease the endocrinologist said or my nasal septum's fault which is not straight and my otorhinolaryngologist said? I have done a load of test if you need any further details.

Avatar f tn These were specifically for the cold hands and feet, not for high blood pressure, as mine has always been low (90/60). The Norvasc was tried for 30 days with no improvement. Nerve conduction studies ruled out nerve damage so arteriorgram of upper extremities was recommended. My results per radiologist was "Severe Vasospasms" When they injected the dye into the artery they could not see anything. However, when nitroglycerin was administered everything showed up...no blockage.
Avatar m tn s and congestive heart failure has extremely labile blood pressure. She can have a systolic bp of 84 which leads to fainting and an hour later a systolic of 150!. Her bp meds are Norvasc, 5 mg, 1/day, Coreg, 40 mg, 1/day; Enalapril, 20 mg, 2/day. She has had 4 fainting episodes in the past 15 months and has been very lucky that she has not seriously hurt herself as she fell. Her bp can vary from 120/70, to 160/90, to the 85 to 100 systolics which lead to fainting.
Avatar m tn 2 milligrams of amlodapine (Norvasc) twice daily and it more-or-less keeps his blood pressure below 110/xx, but we have been having to add in the Labetelol recently on an as-needed basis to keep it below 120/xx. My wife and I are really scared for him - this whole thing has been just killing us. Is there anyone put there that has any ideas??
