Avatar f tn Hello Dr. Blood pressure had been well controlled in the past with Norvasc 10mg 1x daily and Metroprolol 25mg 2x daily. However, most recently, experiencing high blood pressure since the Nephrologist switched the Norvasc to Lorsartan 100mg 1x daily. Readings have been in the mid 160's even in the 170's. In addition, the Metroprolol was discontinued (it wasn't really helping the heart palpations) and have been prescribed Atenolol 25mg 1x daily for the heart palpitations.

Avatar f tn When I take the generic for Norvasc, my feet swell; this does not happen when I do not take the medication. Will natural diaretics help with this. My diastolic pressure hovers around 90; systolic comes down easily with the Norvasc; diastolic is slower to respond.

Avatar n tn m also taking Norvasc. Should these medications be taken together? The Norvasc was prescribed a number of years ago by a different doctor for Migraine prevention. It hasn't helped my migraines but I've continued to take it. Since they are both blood pressure meds, I'm doubtful I should take both.
Avatar f tn They may claim to do the same things, however the standards in manufacturing the medications are not the same from laboratory to laboratory and there is no way to know if you are getting exactly the same dose of medication in the Lotrel as you did in the Norvasc since they are manufactured by two different manufacturers. The very same issue is seen with Synthroid and Levothyroxine. In fact, my sister was told by an endocrinologist at Mayo, "Never use Levothryoxine.
572651 tn?1530999357 then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.
Avatar n tn I suffered with angina for several years. Recently, I had angina that would wake me out of a dead sleep. It was diagnosed as vasospasms. I was put on Norvasc a month ago. I haven't has any angina, stable or variant. Norvasc works great for me. I have some swelling and slight dizziness with the Novasc, but the benefits far out weigh the side effects.
Avatar m tn I've been on 50mg of Atenolol for years, and it's done the job well enough. In the past six-eight months or so, I've noticed that my blood pressure has been having a hard time getting under 140/80. It gets under, but it doesn't stay there for very long. When I told my cardiologist, he said we should try to up my Atenolol. I declined to do so because Atenolol gives me brachycardia to the point where my pulse can be as low as the high 40s when I'm sleeping.
Avatar n tn The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
Avatar f tn The fact that you are essentially chemically postmenopausal probably played a role in this, however, hormone supplementation carries its own risks and may have caused other problems had you been on it after the hysterectomy. Norvasc is very good in treating this. We usually start patients on long acting oral nitrates (imdur 30 mg daily) because it starts acting fast and then transition the patient to norvasc which takes about 4 days to work.
Avatar n tn There is help out there for people that cannot afford their meds. Many meds including Norvasc comes in generic which I get and I only pay $4.00 for the generic Norvac at Walmart. There is patient assistance programs out there where you can contact manufacture if med is high and you may be able to get it free. There is also clinics like HealthRite that provides free meds and health if meet criteria. Talk with your doc and research on internet. Stopping meds needed can kill you.
