Yes. Grapefruit and certain other citrus fruits and products can interfere with several kinds of prescription medications.
Don't take these interactions lightly. Some can cause potentially dangerous health problems.
However, tangelos, related to the grapefruit, and Seville oranges affect the same enzyme as grapefruit juice. Seville oranges are often used to make orange marmalade, and so be mindful when selecting this spread for your toast.<<

This, initially the drug does not completely metabolize and has an extended half-life. This why it is dangerous to take grapefruit juice with certain medications. Follow me on this. You take a substance that reduces the production of these enzymes (say grapefruit juice) and for the first four hours the drug does not fully metabolize. After six hours the grapefruit juice wears off, the liver again starts producing these enzymes, and you take a second dose of the medication.

I believe fruit juices are problems for many medications, including cholesterol limiting drugs, I recall grapefruit being specifically singled out. For this reason I would never use a fruit juice to "wash down" my medications - I'd not even have juice for a couple of hours after taking medications.
My "tachy" is due to atrial fibrillation and I take both BB and CCB to lower my HR. I have stopped drinking fruit juice all together.
There is an interaction between grapefruit and almost every medication known to man. When it come a to mental health medications grapefruit is a very serious danger. I am glad you are ok and have patience because things will go back to as they were. Grapefruit and st. Johns wort are to things to completelt avoid while taking zoloft and/ or other mood balancing/ altering medicines.

Several of my drugs (Lamictal, Seroquel, & Valium - at a minimum) interact w/ grapefruit. It's on all of the information that comes from the pharmacy and I didn't take it seriously until I got pretty toxic myself. I LOVE grapefruits & grapefruit juice and I miss them a lot. I also tend towards side effects and toxicity.

One thought, did you take anything that may have had a poor interaction with your simvistatin? Grapefruit for example is something that needs to be avoided while taking statins. Grapefruit contains the compound bergamottin, which interacts with certain enzyme systems in the body, such as cytochrome P-450 and P-glycoprotein. These enzyme systems are responsible for breaking down statins, as well as other drugs, into more usable chemicals and transporting them in the body.
