For 3yrs I had controlled HT w/Lisin/HCTZ 20/25 & Norvasc 5mg. I was a very healthy 44yo Fe, 4'10 110lbs. In Jan 07 my ins co said they wanted me to switch from Norvasc to Lotrel because they were "the same". My Dr kept me on the Lisin/HCTZ & added Lotrel 5/40. 12 days later I collapsed. At the ER my BP was 56/48, I was discharged 3 hrs later at 80/54. Things haven't been the same since.
There is help out there for people that cannot afford their meds. Many meds including Norvasc comes in generic which I get and I only pay $4.00 for the generic Norvac at Walmart. There is patient assistance programs out there where you can contact manufacture if med is high and you may be able to get it free. There is also clinics like HealthRite that provides free meds and health if meet criteria. Talk with your doc and research on internet. Stopping meds needed can kill you.
I asked him if there was a medication that is commonly combined with Atenolol, and he suggested the generic for Norvasc, 5mg.
So I've been taking 5mg on top of my Atenolol for about a week, and I've actually noticed that my blood pressure has been a bit more elevated, not to mention I feel a bit crappy in general and anxious. I'm not sure if this is my body attempting to balance itself with the Norvasc but I never thought that it would make my blood pressure worse.
I've been taking amplodipine / norvasc 10 mg (antihypertensive) for about a year and a half now and montelukast / singulair 10 mg (leukotriene modifier) for shorter periods (2 months, march - may 2008 and 2 months this year, started in early may and still on it). Last month, after having been on fluoxetine / prozac for about 1 year, I showed some deterioration (more depressive symptoms, more anxiety / panic attacks).
When a drug patent runs out, a (usually much) less-expensive generic drug comes onto the market, which is chemically and medically equivalent to the brand-name drug. If he's saying what I think he's saying, I'd like to know what the difference here could possibly be. How could the the equivalent be different?...and if its different, how could it be equivalent?

ve been taking Norvasc (generic) as a cacium inhibitor. I keyed this drug in to the website and found many bad reviews. I don't know what to say - I don't think this website would give a good review on ANY drug. I know it is an unbiased site, but I figure most of the people who are on that site are people who are negative about the drug already.

I've done a little bit of research on this - not a lot, but some - and from what I see Acella is not a "generic" of Armour. A generic is a product made by another company that is equivalent to the brand name. Acella is not equivalent to the current Armour formulation, therefore, is not a generic of Armour.

I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....

Mother just started on Norvasc already on Tenormin. Now I've heard there is a problem with the two drugs together causing heart failure. Is that really happening? Please my mother will stop Norvasc unneccassarily if I can't find out the real information about this. She is limited on drug options so this is important. Thanks so very much.
I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.
That being said, perhaps you have been prescribed a beta blocker for the first time, or the dose of an existing beta blocker has been increased. This can cause breathlessness as well. Are you taking Plavix or the generic equivalent? I think the Endeavor stent is a drug eluting product and Plavix is recommended for any stent of that type.
I had breathlessness after one stent procedure and it was discovered indeed I had a problem that needed attention, I would report your symptoms.
It was decided to add Norvasc 5mg INSTEAD of Nifedipine, since Norvasc was used/tolerated well in the past. Began taking Norvasc 5mg along with Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg (all 1x daily) approximately 3 days ago, and the blood pressure is still running extremely high. This morning reading was 186/85 and tonight 176/110!!! Worried that this can be dangerous. What should be done? How long until the BP goes to a "normal" range? Does the doctor need to increase the Norvasc dosage?
