Norvasc for migraine

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc for migraine

norvasc

Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Verapamil for migraine prevention but I'm also taking Norvasc. Should these medications be taken together? The Norvasc was prescribed a number of years ago by a different doctor for Migraine prevention. It hasn't helped my migraines but I've continued to take it. Since they are both blood pressure meds, I'm doubtful I should take both.
Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
739070 tn?1338603402 Did you take it for blood pressure or heart condition or other(migrane prophylaxis)? Norvasc and verapamil are both calcium channel blockers but I believe they have different mechanisms of action. Thanks for trying to answer my question. Have been reading your posts. I wish you well and pray for a timely answer to your problems.
Avatar n tn I have been having muscle spasms under my right eye which last typically about an hour or so and may occur several times each day. This has been going on for over a month now. I also suffer from migraines as well as near migraine strength daily headaches, lightheadedness and occasionally have tingling/numbness in my hands and feet along with the migraines. I also have photophobia and sensitivity to sound at all times.
Avatar n tn I tried taking Cardizem and had to stop. I had been given Cardizem instead of Norvasc for heart spasms. It was the long lasting Cardizem. I suffered through 12 hours of awful chest pains. I went back to the Norvasc. It just works better for me.
Avatar n tn Apparently I am experiencing heart spasms. I also have migraines which they feel are causing the arterial heart spasms. I had a heart catherization and my heart is healthy. I just have occasionally high blood pressure. Believe me I am as confused as you. That is why I am asking if it is okay to take Topamax for my migraines and Norvasc and Cardizem for my heart. I haven't spoke with a pharmacist as of yet. I will pick up the Norvasc today.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your response. I will ask my Doctor.
Avatar f tn It was decided to add Norvasc 5mg INSTEAD of Nifedipine, since Norvasc was used/tolerated well in the past. Began taking Norvasc 5mg along with Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg (all 1x daily) approximately 3 days ago, and the blood pressure is still running extremely high. This morning reading was 186/85 and tonight 176/110!!! Worried that this can be dangerous. What should be done? How long until the BP goes to a "normal" range? Does the doctor need to increase the Norvasc dosage?
214864 tn?1229715239 Hey Darling - you can have my Diltiazem.
Avatar f tn 1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?
Avatar f tn When I take the generic for Norvasc, my feet swell; this does not happen when I do not take the medication. Will natural diaretics help with this. My diastolic pressure hovers around 90; systolic comes down easily with the Norvasc; diastolic is slower to respond.
Avatar m tn You've notable white coat syndrome rendering your blood pressure reading in the doctor's office misleading. I assume that's been the case since 2010 and earlier. I suggest you ask your doctor about discontinuing the norvasc for a short while (a few days? a couple of weeks?
1102792 tn?1285925260 35 m hypertensive currently taking captopril, atenolol, moduretic and norvasc/aspirin/nitrates occasional to ease of left ventricular pain.
Avatar n tn As background, I have a known asymptomatic mitral valve prolapse; history of preeclampsia and HELLP Syndrome during first pregnancy with recurring preeclampsia during second pregnancy; HTN since first pregnancy (1999), but otherwise pretty healthy. About 4 years ago, I had a full work up to rule out renal stenosis and pheochromocytoma.
Avatar f tn For 3yrs I had controlled HT w/Lisin/HCTZ 20/25 & Norvasc 5mg. I was a very healthy 44yo Fe, 4'10 110lbs. In Jan 07 my ins co said they wanted me to switch from Norvasc to Lotrel because they were "the same". My Dr kept me on the Lisin/HCTZ & added Lotrel 5/40. 12 days later I collapsed. At the ER my BP was 56/48, I was discharged 3 hrs later at 80/54. Things haven't been the same since.
Avatar n tn I suffered with angina for several years. Recently, I had angina that would wake me out of a dead sleep. It was diagnosed as vasospasms. I was put on Norvasc a month ago. I haven't has any angina, stable or variant. Norvasc works great for me. I have some swelling and slight dizziness with the Novasc, but the benefits far out weigh the side effects.
572651 tn?1530999357 then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.
Avatar m tn I asked him if there was a medication that is commonly combined with Atenolol, and he suggested the generic for Norvasc, 5mg. So I've been taking 5mg on top of my Atenolol for about a week, and I've actually noticed that my blood pressure has been a bit more elevated, not to mention I feel a bit crappy in general and anxious. I'm not sure if this is my body attempting to balance itself with the Norvasc but I never thought that it would make my blood pressure worse.
Avatar m tn t even want her on any medication, Flecainide and Norvasc included, but only did so for her comfort and my insistence when her bp was over 200 because I was afraid of another stroke. The latest cardiologist in this group suggested "Sick Sinus Syndrome" during her hospital visit and the possibility of a pacemaker in the future, but she is the very first in this large group to suggest anything may even need to ever be done.
Avatar n tn The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
Avatar n tn You may have to adjust or change your medication. Norvasc has a side effect for arryhthmia (rapid heartbeat). Fast or uneven heartbeat is a side effect for hctz.
Avatar n tn take norvasc and it helps me greatly. There is help out there for people that cannot afford their meds. Many meds including Norvasc comes in generic which I get and I only pay $4.00 for the generic Norvac at Walmart. There is patient assistance programs out there where you can contact manufacture if med is high and you may be able to get it free. There is also clinics like HealthRite that provides free meds and health if meet criteria. Talk with your doc and research on internet.
Avatar f tn I had been on Norvasc before my Emory encounter but was switched to Cardizem 120 mg 2x day which for me gave much better control over the PVCs helping to relax the heart vessels. The nitro was super helpful as PVCs were a sign that my heart muscle was not getting enough O2 .Now it is only a rare time that I get one, no more runs of PVCs, bigeminy. This MVD is really a customized treatment for patients as there appears to be degrees of severity and presentation of symptoms.
Avatar f tn My mother is diagnose with unstable angina a month a ago and the doctor asked us to monitor her blood pressure since she is discharged from the hospital her blood pressure is always normal but there are sometimes that her bp is 100/50 and last day her bp is 120/40 she is 71 years old and taking medications such as norvasc. lipitor, aspirin, imdur or ISMN and losartan.
