Norvasc for angina

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc for angina

norvasc

Avatar n tn The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
Avatar n tn I suffered with angina for several years. Recently, I had angina that would wake me out of a dead sleep. It was diagnosed as vasospasms. I was put on Norvasc a month ago. I haven't has any angina, stable or variant. Norvasc works great for me. I have some swelling and slight dizziness with the Novasc, but the benefits far out weigh the side effects.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm 50yld. Male non- smoker, 250 lbs. Being diagnosed with angina. I'm presently taking; norvasc, isosorbribe, aspirin, and nitroglycerine. My question is that am experiencing chest pains at least three or four times per week. My ekgs are normal and my caths are negative. My Dr. Tell me that I have heart desease , and that the angina is caused by artery spasms. I also get chest pains with exercising, eating heavy meals, or adverse weather conditions.
Avatar f tn When I take the generic for Norvasc, my feet swell; this does not happen when I do not take the medication. Will natural diaretics help with this. My diastolic pressure hovers around 90; systolic comes down easily with the Norvasc; diastolic is slower to respond.
Avatar m tn I have been hospitalized repeatedly since the heart attack and have tried all the usual medications such as verapamil, cardizem, imdur, metoprolol, lisinopril, norvasc and magnesium. I do not tolerate cardizem or imdur well. The angina was not controlled until they started me on Ranexa last year because the pain was constant and severe. I couldn't even walk across the room without severe pain.
1243333 tn?1296446902 I have extensive CAD with mutiplable stent placement in the past 22 months, and have high blood pressure (Usally 180/110 And higher), what effect does the high blood pressure have on CAD and angina. I am on bp meds. (norvasc, imdur, toprol XL, spirolactone, valturna, cattapress tts, iron, dexilant & carfate).
572651 tn?1530999357 then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.
Avatar m tn I continued to have angina. I had alot of episodes that would wake me out of a dead sleep. I was put on Norvasc (calcium channel blocker) in additon to Lopressor and Altace. Haven't had any spasms lately. Hope you feel better.
237039 tn?1264258057 I will need to discuss with the cardio I see next week what I can do about those. I am taking Norvasc for that but obviously I need something more or something else. Thanks again.
Avatar f tn Hi how is everyone? I just went to a new cardiologist this week, too find out that my last cardiologist was over medicating me. I was on Norvasc. Inderal la, long lasting Nitro and Nitroquick. My blood pressure was 80/60 most of the time. I felt like **** always tired, constant chest pain, headaches, muscle aches all I did was sleep. My new cardio told me to stop everything. Needless to say I need to slowly come off the enderal. But since Coming off everything I actually feel much better.
Avatar f tn BiDil contains an Isosorbide dinitrate that dilates blood vessels. When blood vessels are dilated, it is easier for the heart to pump and oxygenated blood to heart cells. I take isosorbide prior to going to the gym for a workout. This prevents angina (chest pains) when exercising 3x a week with the greater demand for oxygen....It is recommended to take a break from the medication as continued use will cause one to tolerate the med without any benefit.
Avatar f tn I had been on Norvasc before my Emory encounter but was switched to Cardizem 120 mg 2x day which for me gave much better control over the PVCs helping to relax the heart vessels. The nitro was super helpful as PVCs were a sign that my heart muscle was not getting enough O2 .Now it is only a rare time that I get one, no more runs of PVCs, bigeminy. This MVD is really a customized treatment for patients as there appears to be degrees of severity and presentation of symptoms.
Avatar m tn There are 2 other medications that work well for angina that I would usually start prior to Ranexa which are Imdur (Isosorbide mononitrate) or Norvasc (Amlodipine) which can both help with angina and coronary vasospasm (spasm of the large and small vessels which give blood to the heart) which you may possible have.
Avatar f tn I am a 57 year old female and I have had 5 M.I. 's caused by vasospams. I had the first one in September 2006, January 2007, April 2008 and the last two have occurred on June 21st and August 1st this year. I have had 4 caths. The 3rd cath in April 2008 indicated a spasm spot on the lower circumflex artery. The cath I had on July 15th of this year indicated that the spasm spot on the circumflex artery was all healed but there was a new one formed on another artery.
Avatar f tn Are there any new treatments for unstable angina? I am 5 years post CABAG w/ 3 bypasses. Since that time I have blocked off most of the bypasses, I have 4 stents and have had 15 heart caths in 5 years. I have to make an average of 1 to 2 trips to the ER for pain control when nitro s/l and nitro patches fail to work.I have had to retire because of the angina, can't garden or vacuum. My current meds are plavix, vytorin, ranexa ( max dose) , atenlol(75mg),norvasc (5mg), asa(325mg).
Avatar f tn I am 32 yr old female who has been taking a diuretic since I was 20 for HBP. Now I am also on norvasc which isn't working and is causing angina. The doctor has tried me on several meds with little to no results or severe side effects that made not able to take a cpl of them. I've only had a CMP and CBC done for tests. I've been to him every month for the past year now and he just switches me to a new med without testing anything.
Avatar f tn Yes, I am sad to say there isn't a lot of medical knowledge of these types of spasms. And they come by so many different names and reasons why we suffer with these. They have been called small vessel disease, microvascular cardiac syndrome X, vasospasms and Prinzmetal angina. As well as unstable angina. The causes don't seem to be greatly outlined yet. I suffer with the same and my biggest complaint is the angina that wakes me from a dead sleep.
Avatar n tn I have times where this last for months every day and It’s like sitting back waiting for the big one to happen because my doctor told me there were only 3 meds to take for this condition first was verelin pm and xanax I also carry nitro. Now I’m on diltizem cd 240 mg once at night and xanax .5 every 8 hours and it still doesn’t help some days are so bad for me and others I can just deal with. Please someone just let me know that there is something that can be done for this.
Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
418191 tn?1205195521 I'm sorry but this could be a long. In 2006 I had some a stress test and echo done. I was never advised of the findings even while sitting with the doctor in his office. He neglected to tell me about the atrial septal defect with PFO; enlarged left side of heart; MVP (which is the only think I knew about and a couple of other things but I cannot think of them right now. I only found these out because I was in the midst of switching primary care physicians and saw these papers first had.
Avatar f tn They tried me on Cardizem but it made my chest pains worse, And since it was the long acting type I was miserable for 12 hours. Norvasc works much better for me. It takes some effort to find the right meds and dose. I have also added magnesium to my daily med regement. Talk to your doctor about these chest pains and suggest an alternative to the Cardizem.
Avatar m tn In my case, the beta blocker is the drug responsible for my lack of energy. I stopped taking Plavix. Just a choice I made for myself, and I stopped taking an ace inhibitor. My heart rate and blood pressure would get too low if I took the Altace with the others. I take Metropolol, Isosorbide (Isordil), Norvasc, Tricor, and Nitro as needed, but stopped a few of the other drugs. As far as walking, it is still an effort for me to get started.
Avatar n tn Isosrbide is a long acting type of nitrate for chest pain Plavix is a blood thinner Coreg is a beta blocker to lower blood pressure and help with the heart rate and rhythm Zantac is to help with heartburn Norvasc is a calcium channel blocker to help lower blood pressure and help with angina (I take this for heart spasms) Lotensin is also used to treat high blood pressure I hope this helps you some. How is your husband's cholesterol?

1704227 tn?1307475144 I have Coronary Artery Disease, Angina and Lupus and for three weeks now I've been having coronary artery spasms averaging 1-2 spasms every hour. I spent 6 days in the hospital and was just discharged 2 days ago. After many, many EKG's that were normal (except one that showed activity of spasms), and having 2 more stints placed in one of my arteries (now totaling 5 stints), my cardiologists are still puzzled and confused as to why this is happening and why they won't stop.
Avatar f tn thank you keith and ally.. i have gone for a check up and was referred to a cardiology unit. they've planned an angiogram for me tomorrow.. kinda freaked out but im just gonna go for it... wish me luck!! u guys doing ok?
