Norvasc effect on heart rate

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc effect on heart rate

norvasc

Avatar n tn Both Amlodopine (Norvasc) and verapamil belong to the same group- the calcium channel blockers (CCB) which are usually indicated for hypertension and migraine prevention. Amlodipine have very little effect on heart rate and contraction while Verapamil have the greatest effects on the heart and reduce the strength and rate of contraction. Since they have different actions, it is best that you discuss this first with your attending physician for proper management. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn Some calcium channel blockers can affect heart rate and are not indicated for use with beta blockers. Norvasc does not have that conflict. You also might ask about a low dose diuretic such as Hydrochlorothiazide provided there are no contraindication to its use with your health history.
1243333 tn?1296446902 I have extensive CAD with mutiplable stent placement in the past 22 months, and have high blood pressure (Usally 180/110 And higher), what effect does the high blood pressure have on CAD and angina. I am on bp meds. (norvasc, imdur, toprol XL, spirolactone, valturna, cattapress tts, iron, dexilant & carfate).
2095551 tn?1333122531 I am also on Norvasc, 5 mg per day. I also take atenolol which is a beta blocker. I haven't noticed too much swelling (except in my hands at times) on the 5 mg of Norvasc and I tried 10 mg awhile back but it didn't reduce my blood pressure by much and I was worried about the increased swelling. However, adding 25 mg of atenolol significantly lowered my blood pressure into the normal range 95% of the time.
672586 tn?1280933658 You are changing from one class of heart medicine to another. I would question the abrupt withdrawal directly with your doctor, and perhaps I'd ask your pharmacist about the possible problems. Also, a Cardiologist might have important imput in this decision.
Avatar f tn I has a stent put in 1year ago. All of asudden my heart rate increased 108 to 112 resting. Had a nuclear stree test done results are normal. Doctor had already increased my Cardizem Cd to 360 in Am <180 at night. Heart rate was good for 2days ,around 80 . Yesterday I flt like my chest was going to explode. Took Maltha and 2 nitro, pain went away.. Many times a day I fel a chest discomfort that lasts for seconds, sometimes it feels like someone blew a bubble in my chest.
Avatar m tn I am on metoprolol and with a slower heart rate it does feel as if you are out of breath after exertion.... due to the slower heart rate and therefore less blood gets pumped/beat. This is one reason you stop taking a beta blocker before a stress test. Not really a true side effect when you consider the reason why one takes a beta blocker.
Avatar f tn My thinking on all the meds is that your doctor wants to make sure to keep your heart healthy. If your heart is enlarged a little, the beta blocker would probably prevent it from enlarging more over the years, in that your heart doesn't have to work quite as hard thanks to a beta blocker. Many people have trace valve regurgitation, so he probably didn't see it significant enough to mention. Adjusting meds can take a lot of time. Best of luck with it.
214864 tn?1229715239 7 years ago, I was diagnosed with tachycardia, explained to me as pathological rapid heart rate of unknown cause. I was placed on a beta blocker immediately. My resting heart rate was around 105 bpm. Beta blockers have totally ruined my life, as well as they have save it. What irony... My question is, can I find a CCB that can take the place of a beta blocker that will slow my heart rate down? I already take Norvasc, a CCB to try to reverse diastolic dysfunction. My LVEDP is 27 mmhg.
Avatar f tn P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc. Is there any other calcium blocker that doesn't cause swelling?
Avatar m tn Your heart beat was fine when you were on the Norvasc? Or maybe your heart is getting used to being off of medication. May want to lower intensity or duration on bike or try switching up exercise and try some walking or other aerobic activity. You may also want to take a day off for recovery. Your heart rate should recover quicker than it sounds like it is. May want to look into Heart Zones training. Sally Edwards has a good book on this.
Avatar m tn She was previously tested a few months back and her Echo, Carotid Ultrasound and Stress Test were ok but other than blood work at the hospital, heart rate monitoring and a chest x-ray, no other tests were done at the hospital. However, the heart monitor showed several sinus bradycardia episodes in the high 30's. I worry about how low her rate goes down during sleep if it goes down this far when she is awake.

Avatar n tn Coreg is medication that helps lower the heart rate and bp. The stress test will evaluate one's physical condition a peak heart rate unmedicated, and how quickly the heart rae returns to normal within 3 minutes or so. Other phases of the test considered as well.
Avatar f tn It feels horrible, but definitely better than having my heart stop. Does the heart rate stabilize at a more reasonable rate eventually? Also, curious about others who may have had Atenolol-induced heart block.
Avatar f tn There may be reasons why this was not started (extremely low heart rate, conduction disease, allergy, etc), but should be addressed by her physician.
Avatar f tn I worry about taking the Norvasc also since I have read it can cause increased heart rate. If I have sinus tachycardia and my doctor has decreased my beta blocker..should I be concerned with the Norvasc causing a dangerous arrhythmia? My heart rate now ranges from about 50bpm up to 90 resting. In addition, I have huge pauses in my heart beat when I breath fully in and start to breath out and vice versa. It makes me feel dizzy when it happens and wakes me up at night.
Avatar n tn In march my husband had a stent put in below his heart, everything fine dr put him on effient. June he had a stroke, they gave him clot busting meds, he had a stent put in his cariod artery, all ultra sounds of heart and neck are good, went to nuero and cardiologist in aug. My concern every am when he first gets up he takes his bp before he takes his am meds and its always high, then after meds it drops down. What causes this? The am 170/110 then 1 hour later 120/76.
Avatar n tn I also have migraines which they feel are causing the arterial heart spasms. I had a heart catherization and my heart is healthy. I just have occasionally high blood pressure. Believe me I am as confused as you. That is why I am asking if it is okay to take Topamax for my migraines and Norvasc and Cardizem for my heart. I haven't spoke with a pharmacist as of yet. I will pick up the Norvasc today.
Avatar n tn i have blood pressure 116 over 72 angiogram shows no problem with cholesterol 2.5 on test. i have been given norvasc and lipitol ?

Avatar f tn Hi, I havent been to Medhelp for ages as there was a missing link to get here but its resolved and I'm so relieved to be back. There is a new drug out called Coralan. Its main aim is to treat uncontrolled angina but it was found to reduce tachycardia as well. I've been on it for quite a while and it definitely works and doesn't seem to have too many side effects even though its very new.
Avatar f tn I am 32 yr old female who has been taking a diuretic since I was 20 for HBP. Now I am also on norvasc which isn't working and is causing angina. The doctor has tried me on several meds with little to no results or severe side effects that made not able to take a cpl of them. I've only had a CMP and CBC done for tests. I've been to him every month for the past year now and he just switches me to a new med without testing anything.
Avatar n tn I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....
Avatar f tn Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.
Avatar n tn I have asthma, and have been suffering somewhat from shortness of breath so I had concerns being put on a beta blocker. So he put me on Norvasc. I have been on that since May 29th. My blood pressures are still running somewhat high at times. The problem is the diastolic and the heart rate. Earlier today it was 144/102 but at that point my heart rate was 73. Some of my recent readings are 141/101 pulse of 104: 129/104 with a pulse of 90; 137/102 with a pulse of 102.
Avatar f tn I have a friend who was just diagnosed with this, and she is doing great on Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker). She has the advantage of not having any significant plaque build-up in her coronary arteries, but the Norvascis like a miracle drug for her.
Avatar n tn Several years ago my doctor said I could go off it as I was on Norvasc and Diovan. Based on a 24 BP monitor, it was discerned I did not need the Atenolol. I was able to cut my dose to 25mg. but cannot get off it. I become irritable, jittery and have a short fuse. Recently, became a vegan and my BP has dropped so I tried to d/c the atenolol once again. Will I ever be able to get off this med. my BP is 101/60 just on 5 mg. of Norvasc.
Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
