I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.
I would be more concerned about lowering my bp which might include increasing ur dosage or combination with norvasc, ACE inhibitor and water pills to avoid damage to ur heart or worsen ur kidney probs, also ur hbp may be as a result of ur kidney probs, try to get that sorted out too. Remember that u may need dosage adjustments if ur kidney function has been compromised. I hope this helps.
My dad who is 81 years old in India is on Citilin 500mg daily. The neurologist prescribed it after he had TIA number of times. He used to get seizures like symptoms and loose his consciousness. He was bedridden and stopped walking completely. Now, he is up on his feet and doing his regular work after regular physiotherapy.
At first, he had trigeminal neuralgia and he was on carbamezapine 150mg twice daily and then 300mg twice daily. I just need to know how long he has to be on Citilin.

My mother is 74 years old and has a history of strokes. We suspect she may have had one of them as recently as two months ago (a minor one?). She has had a problem with high blood pressure and wide pulse pressure (at least 160's/40's or 50's) with her top number as high as 200 once but usually in the 160's without her Norvasc 2.5mg and her bottom number usually in the 50's with or without Norvasc.
If your dosage was recently change - yes a mild headache could be present until you balance out a bit. If no dosage change was done you need to look up your meds and see if headaches are a possibility. I am confident the BP med will do that to you.
5mg of alprazolam(xanax)and 5mg norvasc for HBP Recently had a setback with driving and now more attacks. The xanax helps but still nervous about work. It seems as if maybe its time for a change ?
I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....

Mother just started on Norvasc already on Tenormin. Now I've heard there is a problem with the two drugs together causing heart failure. Is that really happening? Please my mother will stop Norvasc unneccassarily if I can't find out the real information about this. She is limited on drug options so this is important. Thanks so very much.
I've been taking amplodipine / norvasc 10 mg (antihypertensive) for about a year and a half now and montelukast / singulair 10 mg (leukotriene modifier) for shorter periods (2 months, march - may 2008 and 2 months this year, started in early may and still on it). Last month, after having been on fluoxetine / prozac for about 1 year, I showed some deterioration (more depressive symptoms, more anxiety / panic attacks).
When I take the generic for Norvasc, my feet swell; this does not happen when I do not take the medication. Will natural diaretics help with this. My diastolic pressure hovers around 90; systolic comes down easily with the Norvasc; diastolic is slower to respond.
I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
I was taking 100 mg a day for high blood pressure for about 7 years (increasing dosage) and stopped cold (replaced by Norvasc) a couple of days ago. While I'm sitting here quietly my heart rate is 110 bpm and I can feel it pounding in my chest. I do have an appointment with my GP tomorrow but was wondering if this is ok? It feels horrible, but definitely better than having my heart stop. Does the heart rate stabilize at a more reasonable rate eventually?
9 170 but my blood pressure is always fine at home i do suffer from anxiety but it goes thru the roof when i see a doctor or go to the ER i am 27 years old, i have to see a doc once a week for another condition, but it never fails my pulse and BP rises very high in doctors settings, once i come home both my pulse and pressure is fine again , my worry and problem is how much damage is being done to my heart when my blood pressure spikes like this once a week?
For 3yrs I had controlled HT w/Lisin/HCTZ 20/25 & Norvasc 5mg. I was a very healthy 44yo Fe, 4'10 110lbs. In Jan 07 my ins co said they wanted me to switch from Norvasc to Lotrel because they were "the same". My Dr kept me on the Lisin/HCTZ & added Lotrel 5/40. 12 days later I collapsed. At the ER my BP was 56/48, I was discharged 3 hrs later at 80/54. Things haven't been the same since.
I suffered with angina for several years. Recently, I had angina that would wake me out of a dead sleep. It was diagnosed as vasospasms. I was put on Norvasc a month ago. I haven't has any angina, stable or variant. Norvasc works great for me. I have some swelling and slight dizziness with the Novasc, but the benefits far out weigh the side effects.
i have to take blood pressure medication daily - i take at least three different types. i take atenolol (100 mg) and norvasc ( 5 mg) in the morning and clonodine (.4 mg) three times daily. my doctors have told me that if my bottom number reaches 100 to go to er, i also have nitroglycerin to take when my heart feels "funky". you start out with 1 pill; wait 5 minutes, if not better then take another one; wait 5 minutes take another one and call 911. hope this helps.
I asked him if there was a medication that is commonly combined with Atenolol, and he suggested the generic for Norvasc, 5mg.
So I've been taking 5mg on top of my Atenolol for about a week, and I've actually noticed that my blood pressure has been a bit more elevated, not to mention I feel a bit crappy in general and anxious. I'm not sure if this is my body attempting to balance itself with the Norvasc but I never thought that it would make my blood pressure worse.
The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
I take a small amount of atenolol a beta blocker (12mg per day) and 7.5 mg of norvasc which is a calcium channel blocker for HBP. My blood pressure is normal with the drugs. My heart rate is low from the beta blocker (45-50 BPM). I have read that if you become anemic from the riba or boceprivir that the beta blockers could be dangerous. Anyone know or have any experience with these meds or something like them.
I am on Cholesterol meds and hypertension meds(Metoprolol, Altace and Norvasc) which I have been taking for the last two years. Recently I used some viagra two hours before an encounter with my date. I started drinking after the taking the Viagra. The viagra did not work....I took another one and waited awhile and it still didn't work...I took one more and waited a while with no results.... I have used alcohol with viagra before and I performed well.
