Norvasc beta blocker

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc beta blocker

norvasc

2095551 tn?1333122531 I am also on Norvasc, 5 mg per day. I also take atenolol which is a beta blocker. I haven't noticed too much swelling (except in my hands at times) on the 5 mg of Norvasc and I tried 10 mg awhile back but it didn't reduce my blood pressure by much and I was worried about the increased swelling. However, adding 25 mg of atenolol significantly lowered my blood pressure into the normal range 95% of the time.
Avatar f tn I went back to cardio dr the next day and now he wants me to take Benicar, Norvasc and a small dose of the beta blocker plus my anxiety meds...all this for someone who he says has a normal heart? I am so confused. Also, I got a copy of all my records because I am getting a second opinion....and it reads that there is a trace mitral regurgitation, mild tricuspid regurgitation and the right ventricular systolic pressure is mildly elevated at 32.
Avatar m tn after having a-fib---then finding out i had a leaky mitral valve which needed repairing-----( i did not have any blockages ) my doctor put me on a beta blocker (metoprolol)----I feel great most of the time---the only thing I notice is when I have to exert myself for a few seconds ( like runing and playing with my dog or walking fast up a steep incline ) I have to stop because of lack of wind and feel exhausted----would this be considered a side effect of beta blockers
Avatar f tn I have consulted several MDs, who are good friends of mine, and got different views on the possibilities of adding a Calcium Channel Blocker, e.g. Norvasc, to the Beta Blocker (Tenormin) that I'm taking right now. One suggested adding 2.5 mg Norvasc to the 100 mg Tenormin; another thought it would be a good idea to reduce the tenormin to 50 mg and take 5 mg of Norvasc; and the third, suggested to gradually replace the tenormin by 5 mg Norvasc, and to be increased if needed, to 10 mg.
214864 tn?1229715239 My question is, can I find a CCB that can take the place of a beta blocker that will slow my heart rate down? I already take Norvasc, a CCB to try to reverse diastolic dysfunction. My LVEDP is 27 mmhg. I am currently taking 20 mg of Coreg CR (controlled released), an ACEi, Plavix, Zocor (intermittently due to adverse reactions, same as with all statins) and Norvasc.
672586 tn?1280933658 You were posting while I was typing. LOL Now I understand why the switch. In my case, though, I take both a beta blocker (Lopressor) and a calcium channel blocker (Norvasc). I wasn't able to take the Diltiazem. Gave me awful chest pains.

Avatar n tn I take 5mg Norvasc with 100 mg of a beta blocker(Lopressor) and Isosorbide (Nitrate) and Tricor every morning without any problems. But I am confused as to why Norvasc and Cardizem. They are both calcium channel blockers. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Have you talked to your pharmacist about any concerns?
976897 tn?1379167602 Also, my cousin is a Sax player of some reknown, plays in the midwest, Europe and Japan, and he takes a little beta blocker to control stage fright. He tells me that it is common.
Avatar m tn I take a small amount of atenolol a beta blocker (12mg per day) and 7.5 mg of norvasc which is a calcium channel blocker for HBP. My blood pressure is normal with the drugs. My heart rate is low from the beta blocker (45-50 BPM). I have read that if you become anemic from the riba or boceprivir that the beta blockers could be dangerous. Anyone know or have any experience with these meds or something like them.
Avatar n tn Your blood pressure needs to be well controlled and you should be on a BETA-BLOCKER with high BP and an aortic aneurysm. Generally amiodarone is only given short term and I would discuss the med changes with the cardiologist.
Avatar f tn Of note, one medication that she should also be on is a beta blocker (given her history of unstable angina). There may be reasons why this was not started (extremely low heart rate, conduction disease, allergy, etc), but should be addressed by her physician.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm 45yo.caucasian male.Height 173 cm, Weight 68 kg.2,5 months ago I started taking Lodoz 2,5 mg (bisoprolol with diuretic), blood persure before taking medicine was approximately 160/100. The medicine was prescribed in the same dose by general practice doctor 2,5 months ago . In the meantime I did ultrasound of the heart and the result seems to be OK. as wel as EKG.
Avatar n tn I know Atenolol has been used off label to quell stage fright and anxiety before a major exam, like med boards, etc. It is a beta blocker and works by affecting the response of nerve impulses in certain parts of the body, like the heart.
Avatar f tn I was on Protonix for awhile for acid reflux, then was switched to Nexium, which I still take. The Inderal, I think, is a beta blocker, which makes heartburn worse. So does aspirin. That's probably why you were given Protonix. I don't take a beta blocker nor do I use aspirin, Advil, or Aleve because they make reflux worse. I do take one other med that causes mild reflux, but I have to take that for the rest of my life. So, I take a low dose of Nexium.
Avatar f tn I have recently gone off Toprol XL after ~ 1 year of tx due to it making me feel sluggish and making exercise difficult. This has been 2 weeks. Last week, my doctor also switched my verapamil ER (300mg) to Norvasc (10 mg). For the last several days my heart has felt it is racing. Because my BP meds were switched up, I have been monitoring my BP which in turn has a HR output. My resting HR is now anywhere from 90 - 109 BPM.
Avatar f tn If I have sinus tachycardia and my doctor has decreased my beta blocker..should I be concerned with the Norvasc causing a dangerous arrhythmia? My heart rate now ranges from about 50bpm up to 90 resting. In addition, I have huge pauses in my heart beat when I breath fully in and start to breath out and vice versa. It makes me feel dizzy when it happens and wakes me up at night. My doctor doesn't seem concerned. But, it is driving me crazy as I am sure you can see from this message.
Avatar n tn Hello, Medications for lowering blood pressure which can be used in kidney failure are angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor since they protect your kidneys and lower the risk of heart disease. Other medications which can be used are beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics. It is best to report any side effects from your medicine to your doctor and never stop taking any of your medications on your own.
976897 tn?1379167602 I demanded to go back on them, and my blood pressure is fine. I take a beta blocker as well. Just something to think about.
Avatar m tn It took some trial and error, but we have finally found the right combination of beta blocker, ace inhibitor and calcium channel blocker. The spasms finally quieted down toward the end of June. Conitnue to work with your doctor to find the right medication for you. Some of us do well with Cardizem. I tried that and had some really bad chest pains. I went back to the Norvasc and had my other meds' doses adjusted. And like I said, it does take a while to start working well.
Avatar m tn I had way more energy compared to the beta blocker. The only side effect I had was being unable to drink red wine (gave me a vicious headache). The CCB that I was put on was Cardizem (diltiazem) and this seems to be the one more commonly prescribed for arrhythmias.
Avatar n tn Isosrbide is a long acting type of nitrate for chest pain Plavix is a blood thinner Coreg is a beta blocker to lower blood pressure and help with the heart rate and rhythm Zantac is to help with heartburn Norvasc is a calcium channel blocker to help lower blood pressure and help with angina (I take this for heart spasms) Lotensin is also used to treat high blood pressure I hope this helps you some. How is your husband's cholesterol?
Avatar f tn I has a stent put in 1year ago. All of asudden my heart rate increased 108 to 112 resting. Had a nuclear stree test done results are normal. Doctor had already increased my Cardizem Cd to 360 in Am <180 at night. Heart rate was good for 2days ,around 80 . Yesterday I flt like my chest was going to explode. Took Maltha and 2 nitro, pain went away.. Many times a day I fel a chest discomfort that lasts for seconds, sometimes it feels like someone blew a bubble in my chest.
Avatar f tn The norvasc or calcium channel blocker (CCB) will help with PVCs, unless you left something out in your post. A CCB has been shown to have better results against spasming heart vessels then beta blockers.I had been on Norvasc before my Emory encounter but was switched to Cardizem 120 mg 2x day which for me gave much better control over the PVCs helping to relax the heart vessels. The nitro was super helpful as PVCs were a sign that my heart muscle was not getting enough O2 .
Avatar f tn I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.
Avatar m tn t like the Beta-blocker (shortness of breath during exercise, night sweats). My cardiologist weaned my off the Toprol XL over a two week period and put me on Norvasc (a Calcium channel blocker). I could only take it for about three weeks before swelling of the ankles made it (in my opinion, I didn't tell him about it) impossible to continue. Now, I just do the Dyazide and check my blood pressure. Don't know about Carvedilol.
Avatar n tn I have asthma, and have been suffering somewhat from shortness of breath so I had concerns being put on a beta blocker. So he put me on Norvasc. I have been on that since May 29th. My blood pressures are still running somewhat high at times. The problem is the diastolic and the heart rate. Earlier today it was 144/102 but at that point my heart rate was 73. Some of my recent readings are 141/101 pulse of 104: 129/104 with a pulse of 90; 137/102 with a pulse of 102.
Avatar n tn The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
572651 tn?1530999357 then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.
1225178 tn?1318980604 My husband had been taking a beta-blocker to manage his high blood pressure for some time before starting treatment; treatment (71 weeks so far) did not seem to worsen his blood pressure. Hope that helps.
