Norvasc and low blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc and low blood pressure

norvasc

Avatar m tn ve actually noticed that my blood pressure has been a bit more elevated, not to mention I feel a bit crappy in general and anxious. I'm not sure if this is my body attempting to balance itself with the Norvasc but I never thought that it would make my blood pressure worse. In fact, I was afraid to take the full dose because the cardiologist said it might drop my blood pressure too low. That's obviously not the problem at this point. Has anyone else had any adverse reactions to Norvasc?
Avatar f tn Normal blood pressure should be no higher than 120/80, especially in those with a history of heart disease or those with multiple CV risk factors such as diabetes. Of the blood pressure medications you listed, Losartan and Norvasc are medications often used to treat blood pressure. Having a lower than normal blood pressure is not dangerous unless there are associated symptoms (light-headedness, fatigue, dizziness, etc.).
Avatar m tn Even on BP Meds my Blood Pressure and pulse still goes sky high in ER & docs office why is this and why is my BP always normal when home or elsewhere? at home its always 120 over 80 or 136 over 87 when i go to docs it shoots right up to 190 over 120 or higher BUT once i leave it goes back to normal. i also suffer from extreme anxiety does anxiety raise up blood pressure at all?
2095551 tn?1333122531 I am also on Norvasc, 5 mg per day. I also take atenolol which is a beta blocker. I haven't noticed too much swelling (except in my hands at times) on the 5 mg of Norvasc and I tried 10 mg awhile back but it didn't reduce my blood pressure by much and I was worried about the increased swelling. However, adding 25 mg of atenolol significantly lowered my blood pressure into the normal range 95% of the time.
Avatar f tn Began taking Norvasc 5mg along with Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg (all 1x daily) approximately 3 days ago, and the blood pressure is still running extremely high. This morning reading was 186/85 and tonight 176/110!!! Worried that this can be dangerous. What should be done? How long until the BP goes to a "normal" range? Does the doctor need to increase the Norvasc dosage? If yes, when?
Avatar n tn t want to deal with low blood pressure, it is just as dangerous and can be induced by taking too many medications. I tried Verapamil, didn't work for me for the migraine's was an ok blood pressure medicine when used in conjunction with lisinopril. I think it reduces your blood pressure by expanding your blood vessels, or making them more elastic or something like that, anyway it works a little different than many other blood pressure meds.
Avatar n tn Your blood pressure needs to be well controlled and you should be on a BETA-BLOCKER with high BP and an aortic aneurysm. Generally amiodarone is only given short term and I would discuss the med changes with the cardiologist.
Avatar n tn Hello, What the doctor means to check is for phreochromocytoma. Pheochromocytoma is a neoplasm of the adrenal medulla. Only 10% of adrenal pheochromocytomas are malignant, while the rest are benign tumors. They may lead to potentially life-threatening high blood pressure, or cardiac arrythmias, and numerous symptoms such as headache, palpitations, anxiety attacks, sweating, weight loss, and tremor.
Avatar f tn In fact, I have been taking this for the past 5 years. However, my blood pressure is still on the high side, i.e. 145 to 150 over 90 to 95, and I need to bring it further down. I'm a male, 40 years of age. Unfortunately, I do not exercise regularly, though, I'm in good shape with no medical problems, and do feel great! It is worth mentioning that I'm not an MD but, a Ph.D.
Avatar f tn Do any of you all take this combo?? Just wondering if all of these made your blood pressure drop too low? Thanks for input!
Avatar n tn I take 5mg Norvasc with 100 mg of a beta blocker(Lopressor) and Isosorbide (Nitrate) and Tricor every morning without any problems. But I am confused as to why Norvasc and Cardizem. They are both calcium channel blockers. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Have you talked to your pharmacist about any concerns?
1890453 tn?1321074646 Someone else may correct me on this, but I would have thought with such low blood pressure, you are at quite low risk. Your arteries are quite relaxed and not under the stress that mine are for example. My blood pressure is not far off double yours. When I had my first heart attack I used to think negative thoughts from the moment I woke up, such as, will I have another heart attack today, will I have a stroke. Nearly 5 years later I'm wondering why I bothered with that anxiety.
120574 tn?1240767840 Terrin, Sorry I did not post sooner but I am just getting around from chemo yesterday. And you are right, high blood pressure is a side effect of avastin. I have been on a roller coaster with the high blood pressure problems and trying to get it leveled out. At one time I was on 4 different meds. Now I am just on one and it seems to be holding steady. I don't know if there is a particular med they start with as I believe it is trial and error to see what will work for you.
Avatar m tn After questioning why I had high blood pressure and not getting any answers I asked to see another doc and he added Lisinopril 10mg and said come back in 6 months. Since then BP has been steady at 130's/40's. After bugging the doc enough about why at 32 i have to take 3 meds to keep BP under control he has finally set me up to see a kidney specialist.
976897 tn?1379167602 134/104 As you can see, my systolic is fine, but the diastolic is a nightmare. All the blood pressure meds I take obviously lower both the diastolic and systolic, and they make me light headed by the time the diastolic drops enough. I can't see any meds which affect just diastolic?
Avatar f tn Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.
1243333 tn?1296446902 I have extensive CAD with mutiplable stent placement in the past 22 months, and have high blood pressure (Usally 180/110 And higher), what effect does the high blood pressure have on CAD and angina. I am on bp meds. (norvasc, imdur, toprol XL, spirolactone, valturna, cattapress tts, iron, dexilant & carfate).
Avatar m tn 5mg this changed nothing… now I have started to take norvasc 5mg on top of avalide my blood pressure has changed a little but mostly in my diastolic number on avg now 145-135/60-50… is this good that my diastolic keep going down with the medication however my top number doesn’t seem to go down very much? I also get the feeling that my doctor doesn’t seem 2 care much.. since its been two years now.. and its still not right??
Avatar n tn It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful. Lipitor is medication to help control cholesterol. According to your post information you are receiving appropriate medication to treat symptoms of spastic angina.
1260320 tn?1270394906 Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!
Avatar m tn Hello, My mother is 74 years old and has a history of strokes. We suspect she may have had one of them as recently as two months ago (a minor one?). She has had a problem with high blood pressure and wide pulse pressure (at least 160's/40's or 50's) with her top number as high as 200 once but usually in the 160's without her Norvasc 2.5mg and her bottom number usually in the 50's with or without Norvasc.
Avatar n tn I am no expert you may want to also ask on the Doctor Forum, I know you can get light headed and dizzy if you have low blood sugar ,my other thought is could it be the blood pressure Med, my brother takes blood pressure meds and he says he is often light headed and dizzy, ask the Doctor maybe the dose has to be adjusted ..
1746489 tn?1311515586 I have recently been prescribed Adderall XR 20 mg for adult ADHD. I have been diagnosed with mild COPD. I am currently on an Albuterol Inhaler as needed, which luckily isn't very often. I'm on Norvasc for high blood pressure (controlled quite well) and Celexa 40 mg a day. I guess that I'm kind of nervous about taking the Adderall XR after reading about all the possible side effects.
404682 tn?1324579818 Hello, My name is Pat and I was recently diagnosed with High BP which has me a bit confused. I had 4 high reading at 3 times but the rest of the time it stayed within the 120s low 130s. The issue is that I'll go along fine and then wham my blood pressure will spike out of nowhere to 170/102 so my dr decided to start me on meds. I started taking norvasc 2.5 mgs at night because my BP is really high when I wake up.
Avatar n tn Isosrbide is a long acting type of nitrate for chest pain Plavix is a blood thinner Coreg is a beta blocker to lower blood pressure and help with the heart rate and rhythm Zantac is to help with heartburn Norvasc is a calcium channel blocker to help lower blood pressure and help with angina (I take this for heart spasms) Lotensin is also used to treat high blood pressure I hope this helps you some. How is your husband's cholesterol?
572651 tn?1530999357 then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.
Avatar m tn I have a high blood pressure and I have been to both an endocrinologist and an otorhinolaryngologist several times within this month. What is the most likely reason I have the high blood pressure? Hashimoto disease the endocrinologist said or my nasal septum's fault which is not straight and my otorhinolaryngologist said? I have done a load of test if you need any further details.
Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with spastic angina. i have blood pressure 116 over 72 angiogram shows no problem with cholesterol 2.5 on test. i have been given norvasc and lipitol ?
