Norvasc and lopressor

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc and lopressor

norvasc

Avatar n tn I take 5mg Norvasc with 100 mg of a beta blocker(Lopressor) and Isosorbide (Nitrate) and Tricor every morning without any problems. But I am confused as to why Norvasc and Cardizem. They are both calcium channel blockers. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Have you talked to your pharmacist about any concerns?
672586 tn?1280933658 You were posting while I was typing. LOL Now I understand why the switch. In my case, though, I take both a beta blocker (Lopressor) and a calcium channel blocker (Norvasc). I wasn't able to take the Diltiazem. Gave me awful chest pains.
Avatar f tn My bp soon came down to 90/70s. I was told to stop Norvasc and then Lopressor. I watched for a rebound but my bp and pulse were within a normal range for a few weeks without them. I continued to check my bp about every day. One day a relative said something very cruel to me at the exact moment I was taking my bp. My diastolic was 110, but systolic and pulse were normal. My diastolic wouldn't come down so I took Clonidine (as my dr had prescribed for an emergency.
Avatar m tn I have had 3 heart attacks and 3 stents in RCA. I continued to have angina. I had alot of episodes that would wake me out of a dead sleep. I was put on Norvasc (calcium channel blocker) in additon to Lopressor and Altace. Haven't had any spasms lately. Hope you feel better.
2095551 tn?1333122531 Is there any other drug out there that will work the same way to open up small blood vessels like Norvasc but wont have the "bad swelling of legs and feet?" Anyone, please me know know, looking forward to hearing from you...
Avatar m tn My cardiologist has put me on Lopressor twice a day to reduce my heart rate and blood pressure and tells me to do aerobic exercise everyday for 45 minutes. Given the polar opposite effects of these two requirements, and given the fact that the effects of Lopressor wear down during each 12 hour period, when is the optimum time to exercise to maximize the benefits and at the same time respect the intent of the Lopressor?
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed lopressor 25mg 1 pill daily i have been on it for 6 days and my bp is 128/78 just like it was before doctor put me on the pill the reason doctor gave for wanting me to take it was my bp was 144/90 i told her i had been working in the fields im a farmers handyman it was very hot that day she took my bp with in 30 minutes of me getting off work and said i have high blood pressure anyone who works in the heat is gona have some bp increase so my Question is can i just stop
572651 tn?1530999357 then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.
Avatar m tn 9 170 but my blood pressure is always fine at home i do suffer from anxiety but it goes thru the roof when i see a doctor or go to the ER i am 27 years old, i have to see a doc once a week for another condition, but it never fails my pulse and BP rises very high in doctors settings, once i come home both my pulse and pressure is fine again , my worry and problem is how much damage is being done to my heart when my blood pressure spikes like this once a week?
Avatar m tn If it were me -- and I'm just talking as a patient, not as an expert -- I would want to get off the Lopressor. Lopressor depresses heart rate, and it's obviously not controlling your blood pressure, so I personally would not see any reason for taking it. I was on Lopressor for blood pressure control for several years and was in the same situation as yourself -- my heart rate was too low, and my blood pressure was still too high. But why are you on the nitro patch?
Avatar n tn I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....
Avatar n tn Needless to say, they released me this morning and prescribed lopressor, norvasc, protonix, and simvastatin and 325 mg of ecotrin a day. I need to go back to the cardiologist in two weeks, but I'm kind of clueless as to what happened with me. I'm 48 and I'm an ex-smoker. The doctor did say after the angiogram that he didn't think the pain I experienced was cardiac in nature and they are suggesting I see a digestive disease doctor.
Avatar f tn since my Dr. adjusted my meds and added some. I take Lopressor, Norvasc and Cozaar, Zaroxolyn and one for thyroid and menopause. I hope this hopes...let us know what you decide. Best of luck and God bless.
Avatar f tn another thought it would be a good idea to reduce the tenormin to 50 mg and take 5 mg of Norvasc; and the third, suggested to gradually replace the tenormin by 5 mg Norvasc, and to be increased if needed, to 10 mg. Having read so much about Hypertension and its medications, I'm inclined towards the second opinion, i.e. 50 mg tenormin in combination with 5 mg Norvasc. However, I don't have a problem with the first opinion. My problem is with the third; I prefer to keep taking Tenormin.
Avatar f tn I am taking Amlodipine (Norvasc) 5mg and occasionally my legs and ankles (on both legs and never the leg itself) will swell to the point that my shoes will no longer fit, but the the swelling will go down for a while (a week, two weeks perhaps) until it happens again.
Avatar n tn it was discovered 10 weeks ago that i had a aneurysm on my ascending aorta 6.4 with a bicuspid aorta vavle. i had surgery 7 weeks ago st jude aorta valve dacron graft for ascending aorta. Four days after surgery i need a pacemaker due to the surgery. My question is there any long term risk or dangers of this that i should look out for. I take amiodarone (200mg) for a-fib that i developed after pacemaker surgery and celexa 20mg, zocor 20 mg. norvasc 5mg. coumadin 7.5mg m & w 5 mg.
Avatar m tn Hi Nick, In short, anything is possible and many meds mixing together certainly make it harder to know what is doing what. Norvasc appears to be for blood pressure normally and a list of drug interactions can be found here : http://www.rxlist.com/norvasc-drug.htm. I claim no knowledge except of what site to look at for this info. Much of it I wouldn't follow either but it will hopefully mean something to you.
Avatar f tn All this HTN began as soon as the Norvasc and Metroprolol were discontinued and the Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg were begun...now to only have the Norvasc added back but at 5mg versus 10mg! Can the HTN be dangerous for the new liver? Very worried. Thank you!
Avatar f tn 1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?
Avatar f tn Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.
Avatar m tn I take atenolol 25 mg for fast heart rate and while in ER, they gave me 50 mg Lopressor (which I believe is metoprolol), one time dose of Lopressor. About a day or two later, I woke up in middle of night with elevated blood pressure and somewhat tachycardia. The blood pressure was higher than what I was used to and I attributed it to not receiving any more Lopressor. It took me about 5 days to not feel affect of Lopressor, and I only took one dose. BP hit 158/100, high for me.
Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
Avatar m tn The other night I was given 50 mg Lopressor, plavix, and lovenox, as I thought and the hospital thought I was having a cardiac event. I already take 25 mg atenolol. I wasn't having event, but non-specific chest pain. That was Monday night. Now I wake up with my heart racing and blood pressure rising. I also wake up exhausted. I think this is from coming off of the Lopressor. I called my MD and they said just go back to regular dose of atenolol.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone has controlled blood pressure on medications, but wacky pulse rates? I was recently in the hospital for SOB/CP and high pulse rate. I had a Thallium Stress Test, which showed a first degree blockage, and Echocardiogram, which showed a thinning aorta wall and many EKG's showing a rapid pulse rate. They were running 110-145 in the hospital and then I was given Lopressor and it did bring the pulse down to the 80's.
Avatar n tn Then in November, my arrthymia worsen. So after about 6 weeks of playing with my Lopressor dosage, my doctor cut the lopressor and put me on Cardizem which is a calcium channel blocker like verapamil. My heart rate became much worse...very rapid like around 120-140....after 3 days of this, I begged to get back on Lopressor so we did and it's back to how it was ...no better no worse....my rate goes from 50 to 100...much more tolerable. I will be seeing an EP in March....
Avatar m tn ve monitored my pulse rate and blood pressure on 25mg of lopressor/day and it seems ok. Should I stay on 25mg/day? Ps I had my surgery in the US but I live in Africa.
