norvasc and labetalol

I got high blood pressure right after my first child came out. Was put on Labetalol and Methyldopa. Now with this pregnancy I've bern on same meds and blood pressure has been a consistent 118/80. Baby is coming in 2 days!!

I am a 52 year old woman, I have Diabetes 1, and Gerd. For 3 months now I have been dealing with extreme high blood pressure. Avg. 220/123, accompanied by chest pain in my upper left size of my chest. This pain does not move. I have been put in the hospital 3 times within these 3 months. I get stress tests, ultrasounds, X-rays and blood work.

I saw my OB/Gyn today for the first time and he has told me that he wants me to go onto Labetalol 100mg a day during my pregnancy because Atenolol can stunt the growth of the baby later in pregnancy. I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me about Labetalol, like for example do I just start taking them instead of Atenolol or what? Are the affects the same as Atenolol?

Is there any other drug out there that will work the same way to open up small blood vessels like Norvasc but wont have the "bad swelling of legs and feet?" Anyone, please me know know, looking forward to hearing from you...

I take 5mg Norvasc with 100 mg of a beta blocker(Lopressor) and Isosorbide (Nitrate) and Tricor every morning without any problems. But I am confused as to why Norvasc and Cardizem. They are both calcium channel blockers. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Have you talked to your pharmacist about any concerns?

I was on nifedipine and labetalol with my first as my blood pressure was ridiculously high and going up every appointment (170/140 when I had my csection). This time ive just been on labetalol because it was over 160/90 for over 2wks. But both pregnancies I've been battling preeclamplsia.

then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.

I find the bisoprolol very useful and easy to take is labetalol similar? As for my bp it is naturally low 90/60 and hope it doesn't lower it too much!

9 170 but my blood pressure is always fine at home i do suffer from anxiety but it goes thru the roof when i see a doctor or go to the ER i am 27 years old, i have to see a doc once a week for another condition, but it never fails my pulse and BP rises very high in doctors settings, once i come home both my pulse and pressure is fine again , my worry and problem is how much damage is being done to my heart when my blood pressure spikes like this once a week?

I have28 days to go and Wednesday was put on Labetalol for the rest of my pregnancy.

I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....

I developed hypertension after she was born and was put on 200 mg Labetalol twice a day. It did what it was supposed to do, however I also developed post partum anxiety/depression and was put on Escitalopram, Alprazolam (as needed) and klonopin (1mg) at night only. The side effects of the labetalol for me were awful, so once my readings got better, I weaned off of it and am now not taking anything for Bp which usually stays in a good range (120-135 over 78-85).

another thought it would be a good idea to reduce the tenormin to 50 mg and take 5 mg of Norvasc; and the third, suggested to gradually replace the tenormin by 5 mg Norvasc, and to be increased if needed, to 10 mg. Having read so much about Hypertension and its medications, I'm inclined towards the second opinion, i.e. 50 mg tenormin in combination with 5 mg Norvasc. However, I don't have a problem with the first opinion. My problem is with the third; I prefer to keep taking Tenormin.

I am taking Amlodipine (Norvasc) 5mg and occasionally my legs and ankles (on both legs and never the leg itself) will swell to the point that my shoes will no longer fit, but the the swelling will go down for a while (a week, two weeks perhaps) until it happens again.

it was discovered 10 weeks ago that i had a aneurysm on my ascending aorta 6.4 with a bicuspid aorta vavle. i had surgery 7 weeks ago st jude aorta valve dacron graft for ascending aorta. Four days after surgery i need a pacemaker due to the surgery. My question is there any long term risk or dangers of this that i should look out for. I take amiodarone (200mg) for a-fib that i developed after pacemaker surgery and celexa 20mg, zocor 20 mg. norvasc 5mg. coumadin 7.5mg m & w 5 mg.

Now, I am off the BCP, had a holter monitor (ok put PVCs and PACs), and put back on Labetalol only 100mg a day. My feet feel terrible, they feel sore, like overheated, and I have had some swelling. I have water retention in my abdomen, and it will not go down for anything. My dr thinks it is sleep apnea, but I doubt it. This just started this year- I think the Labetalol could cause some of this.

Hi Nick, In short, anything is possible and many meds mixing together certainly make it harder to know what is doing what. Norvasc appears to be for blood pressure normally and a list of drug interactions can be found here : http://www.rxlist.com/norvasc-drug.htm. I claim no knowledge except of what site to look at for this info. Much of it I wouldn't follow either but it will hopefully mean something to you.

All this HTN began as soon as the Norvasc and Metroprolol were discontinued and the Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg were begun...now to only have the Norvasc added back but at 5mg versus 10mg! Can the HTN be dangerous for the new liver? Very worried. Thank you!

1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?

I've had preeclamplsia with both of my pregmancies and been on labetalol and nifedipine. This baby is so far fine and my son is a very happy healthy toddler. I believe I got as far as I did in my pregnancies thanks to these medications so would definitely recommend taking them for baby's sake.

Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.

I had gestational hypertension and then severe preeclamplsia with my first and preeclamplsia with this one. Your dr will be keeping an eye on you and probably already considers you high risk (just meaning you need extra monitoring). I've been on labetalol both pregnancies. I was told there are only two bp meds safe where I am during pregnancy and the other one makea me sick. Talk to your dr about your concerns and his plan for you.

i have chronic hypertension and i'm currently taking labetalol 3x a day.. it s a category c and i heard its not safe in first trimester but okay in other trimesters.

I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?

I have high blood pressure which was very out of control when i got pregnant and I was put on labetalol for the high blood pressure when I was only 4-6 weeks pregnant, I am now almost 37 weeks pregnant and due any day now. Dr said that the medication should not hurt the baby and that I will keep taking it after the baby and be ok to get pregnant again while on it.
