Norvasc and chf

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc and chf

norvasc

Avatar f tn BiDil contains an Isosorbide dinitrate that dilates blood vessels. When blood vessels are dilated, it is easier for the heart to pump and oxygenated blood to heart cells. I take isosorbide prior to going to the gym for a workout. This prevents angina (chest pains) when exercising 3x a week with the greater demand for oxygen....It is recommended to take a break from the medication as continued use will cause one to tolerate the med without any benefit.
Avatar f tn But the ER dr prescribed Norvasc to help lower BP (right?), and said maybe my low oxygen at night, while laying down, was just the apnea. I can't wait to follow-up with a new cardiologist. It seems to me (google queen) that CHF has gotten worse. And it's weird but I don't want to be told I'm fine. I want to FEEL fine. I'm just rambling here, thanks for listening. Please share if you've been here, done this, have any thoughts.
2095551 tn?1333122531 Is there any other drug out there that will work the same way to open up small blood vessels like Norvasc but wont have the "bad swelling of legs and feet?" Anyone, please me know know, looking forward to hearing from you...
Avatar n tn I take 5mg Norvasc with 100 mg of a beta blocker(Lopressor) and Isosorbide (Nitrate) and Tricor every morning without any problems. But I am confused as to why Norvasc and Cardizem. They are both calcium channel blockers. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Have you talked to your pharmacist about any concerns?
572651 tn?1530999357 then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.
Avatar m tn 9 170 but my blood pressure is always fine at home i do suffer from anxiety but it goes thru the roof when i see a doctor or go to the ER i am 27 years old, i have to see a doc once a week for another condition, but it never fails my pulse and BP rises very high in doctors settings, once i come home both my pulse and pressure is fine again , my worry and problem is how much damage is being done to my heart when my blood pressure spikes like this once a week?
Avatar n tn I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....
Avatar f tn another thought it would be a good idea to reduce the tenormin to 50 mg and take 5 mg of Norvasc; and the third, suggested to gradually replace the tenormin by 5 mg Norvasc, and to be increased if needed, to 10 mg. Having read so much about Hypertension and its medications, I'm inclined towards the second opinion, i.e. 50 mg tenormin in combination with 5 mg Norvasc. However, I don't have a problem with the first opinion. My problem is with the third; I prefer to keep taking Tenormin.
1677369 tn?1304526277 they have tried the nitrates beta alfa and calcium channel blockers, and i currently were a nitro patch in addition to the imdur and norvasc and using the nitro spray. my wife and i both used to be medics and know this cant keep up, please any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I am taking Amlodipine (Norvasc) 5mg and occasionally my legs and ankles (on both legs and never the leg itself) will swell to the point that my shoes will no longer fit, but the the swelling will go down for a while (a week, two weeks perhaps) until it happens again.
Avatar n tn it was discovered 10 weeks ago that i had a aneurysm on my ascending aorta 6.4 with a bicuspid aorta vavle. i had surgery 7 weeks ago st jude aorta valve dacron graft for ascending aorta. Four days after surgery i need a pacemaker due to the surgery. My question is there any long term risk or dangers of this that i should look out for. I take amiodarone (200mg) for a-fib that i developed after pacemaker surgery and celexa 20mg, zocor 20 mg. norvasc 5mg. coumadin 7.5mg m & w 5 mg.
Avatar m tn Hi Nick, In short, anything is possible and many meds mixing together certainly make it harder to know what is doing what. Norvasc appears to be for blood pressure normally and a list of drug interactions can be found here : http://www.rxlist.com/norvasc-drug.htm. I claim no knowledge except of what site to look at for this info. Much of it I wouldn't follow either but it will hopefully mean something to you.
Avatar f tn All this HTN began as soon as the Norvasc and Metroprolol were discontinued and the Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg were begun...now to only have the Norvasc added back but at 5mg versus 10mg! Can the HTN be dangerous for the new liver? Very worried. Thank you!
323615 tn?1226193396 hi, my husband has end stage chf and he sleeps a lot, and all night,he seems exhausted all day, but no severe coughing.
Avatar f tn 1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?
Avatar f tn Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.
Avatar m tn I have been through the nausea and vomitting, and severe swelling from the CHF, and now I do dialysis 6 days a week. Considering where I was a year ago, I feel healthy. I hope this helps......
Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
898849 tn?1241811271 It is very important to get these shots especially if you have CHF. My mom had CHF and always got these shots. The pneumonia shot lasts 15 years. People who have CHF are more prone to getting pneumonia. It does not cover every strain of pneumonia, but covers quite a bit.
Avatar n tn At the ER last month, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and pneumonia based on a X-Ray, CT Scan, Pro-BNP test, and an EKG. My EKG was abnormal (enlarged heart, etc.) and my Pro-BNP test score was 4996, which from what I have seen, is very high. I was very swollen and my oxygen level was low (70%). They gave me a bunch of medications including a diuretic. All of this made sense when I looked into it, because I have EVERY symptom of CHF.
Avatar f tn I have COPD and CHF and had a stent put in two year's ago and found out it is now 60% blocked. I am concerned because I had been told because of COPD, not a candidate for surgery. So, my question is can they put another stent in or what or the possibilities now?
Avatar n tn Do you have a diagnosis of CHF? This is NOT meant to imply that you do, but it helps to better understand your situation regarding hemodynamic stability.
Avatar m tn Ive read so many warnings about the two together Im a mess worrying--Thank you * Hepkitty* I have been on valium 25 yrs so not a good time to quit it--Please tell me this is ok-- I sleep a lot but been thinking it is chf--I take 2 mgs in am and 2mgs in pm of valium and 120 mgs long acting Cardizem in am
Avatar n tn i have blood pressure 116 over 72 angiogram shows no problem with cholesterol 2.5 on test. i have been given norvasc and lipitol ?
Avatar n tn The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
Avatar m tn I asked him if there was a medication that is commonly combined with Atenolol, and he suggested the generic for Norvasc, 5mg. So I've been taking 5mg on top of my Atenolol for about a week, and I've actually noticed that my blood pressure has been a bit more elevated, not to mention I feel a bit crappy in general and anxious. I'm not sure if this is my body attempting to balance itself with the Norvasc but I never thought that it would make my blood pressure worse.
