Norvasc and beta blockers

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc and beta blockers

norvasc

976897 tn?1379167602 I never took another one and told my doctor that I wanted to go back and try the Norvasc. The Norvasc did begin to help after a couple of weeks, adn the spasms started to get less severe and less in occurrences. I wonder if I should have given the Cardizem more time or just be happy with the way the Norvasc is working?
Avatar n tn Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful. Lipitor is medication to help control cholesterol. According to your post information you are receiving appropriate medication to treat symptoms of spastic angina.
2095551 tn?1333122531 Is there any other drug out there that will work the same way to open up small blood vessels like Norvasc but wont have the "bad swelling of legs and feet?" Anyone, please me know know, looking forward to hearing from you...
Avatar n tn I take 5mg Norvasc with 100 mg of a beta blocker(Lopressor) and Isosorbide (Nitrate) and Tricor every morning without any problems. But I am confused as to why Norvasc and Cardizem. They are both calcium channel blockers. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Have you talked to your pharmacist about any concerns?
Avatar f tn Some calcium channel blockers can affect heart rate and are not indicated for use with beta blockers. Norvasc does not have that conflict. You also might ask about a low dose diuretic such as Hydrochlorothiazide provided there are no contraindication to its use with your health history.
Avatar n tn Hello, Medications for lowering blood pressure which can be used in kidney failure are angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor since they protect your kidneys and lower the risk of heart disease. Other medications which can be used are beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics. It is best to report any side effects from your medicine to your doctor and never stop taking any of your medications on your own.
Avatar m tn It could be, but I would talk to your doctor about it first. I take Metoprolol and it can slow you down a bit. Talk to your doctor to make sure there isnn't something else going on.
Avatar n tn How do metoprolol, isosorb, and benazepril together, differ from, norvasc and lanoxin.
672586 tn?1280933658 You were posting while I was typing. LOL Now I understand why the switch. In my case, though, I take both a beta blocker (Lopressor) and a calcium channel blocker (Norvasc). I wasn't able to take the Diltiazem. Gave me awful chest pains.
Avatar m tn ve almost considered asking for a pacemaker myself - I use a small dosage of beta blockers for my PACs and SVT - and it causes my resting heart rate to drop into the 40s - causing lots of skipped beats. It's really annoying.
Avatar f tn I went back to cardio dr the next day and now he wants me to take Benicar, Norvasc and a small dose of the beta blocker plus my anxiety meds...all this for someone who he says has a normal heart? I am so confused. Also, I got a copy of all my records because I am getting a second opinion....and it reads that there is a trace mitral regurgitation, mild tricuspid regurgitation and the right ventricular systolic pressure is mildly elevated at 32.
Avatar m tn i think the atenolol is causing me some side effects and i have and allergies and it might be making it worse and also want to start taking allergy shots but heard its not a good idea while on beta blockers. im looking for a list or names of a few calcium channel blockers that can also help my symptoms so i can talk to my dr about changing my meds..do calcium channel blockers have less side effects then beta blockers or are they safer?..
Avatar n tn I've been taking amlodipine besylate (norvasc) for about 1 and a half months. For the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing very strong anxieties, panic attacks, and a totally sleepless night. I'd been on testim for years now as well and wonder if either one or a combination can be causing them.
Avatar m tn t have problems with heart rate (usually between 70 and 80 during the day and around 60 in the morning) before taking beta blocker I usually had quite high HR (approximately 90) I'm writing all this because it seems that I started to suffer from "Erectile Dysfunction"or at least everything seems to be pretty much different than before. Behavior has been changing during period of taking drug.
Avatar f tn My doctor is new to me due to a re-location. I am unclear why she stopped Verapamil and started Norvasc, other than she said she has better results with Norvasc. Question: do I need to be concerned about my resting HR @ this time? It makes me rather anxious. I have heard horror stories about coming off of beta-blockers.
Avatar f tn I was taking 100 mg a day for high blood pressure for about 7 years (increasing dosage) and stopped cold (replaced by Norvasc) a couple of days ago. While I'm sitting here quietly my heart rate is 110 bpm and I can feel it pounding in my chest. I do have an appointment with my GP tomorrow but was wondering if this is ok? It feels horrible, but definitely better than having my heart stop. Does the heart rate stabilize at a more reasonable rate eventually?
1677369 tn?1304526277 the pain is still as bad, but i cant live on the pain killers like that. they have tried the nitrates beta alfa and calcium channel blockers, and i currently were a nitro patch in addition to the imdur and norvasc and using the nitro spray. my wife and i both used to be medics and know this cant keep up, please any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I has a stent put in 1year ago. All of asudden my heart rate increased 108 to 112 resting. Had a nuclear stree test done results are normal. Doctor had already increased my Cardizem Cd to 360 in Am <180 at night. Heart rate was good for 2days ,around 80 . Yesterday I flt like my chest was going to explode. Took Maltha and 2 nitro, pain went away.. Many times a day I fel a chest discomfort that lasts for seconds, sometimes it feels like someone blew a bubble in my chest.
Avatar f tn I am taking Amlodipine (Norvasc) 5mg and occasionally my legs and ankles (on both legs and never the leg itself) will swell to the point that my shoes will no longer fit, but the the swelling will go down for a while (a week, two weeks perhaps) until it happens again.
Avatar n tn it was discovered 10 weeks ago that i had a aneurysm on my ascending aorta 6.4 with a bicuspid aorta vavle. i had surgery 7 weeks ago st jude aorta valve dacron graft for ascending aorta. Four days after surgery i need a pacemaker due to the surgery. My question is there any long term risk or dangers of this that i should look out for. I take amiodarone (200mg) for a-fib that i developed after pacemaker surgery and celexa 20mg, zocor 20 mg. norvasc 5mg. coumadin 7.5mg m & w 5 mg.
Avatar f tn Hi there I have asthma, tachycardia (SVT) and take beta blockers. I have tried different beta blockers and i find bisoprolol is the best for asthmatics :) It takes a week for your lungs to adjust to the beta blocker but then you should be fine.
Avatar m tn d ask your doctor if you could try HCTZ, quit taking beta blockers, buy a blood pressure monitor, and take your BP twice a day, and track it. He/she may have a strong reason to continue taking the medication, but why not ask the question?
Avatar f tn In fact, on the long run, regular exercise is a much better way to reduce one’s heart rate rather than taking beta blockers; unless and until there’s clear cut indication for the same. I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
Avatar f tn When your heart is struggling, too much adrenalin is pumped into your body and it is toxic. Thats why the beta blockers that stop the adrenalin make you feel so much much better. That's all I can contribute.
370181 tn?1595629445 I have been on Beta Blockers for many years, including Atenolol and others like Coreg that are much, much stronger when I fell into the Congestive Heart Failure catagory, and I never had beta blockers cause any GERD issues. Atenolol and other beta blockers are difficult drugs to take initially, they can make you very, very tired, but the body gets used to them and issues like fatigue will disappear.
