Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc and anxiety

norvasc

Avatar m tn a) anxiety certainly can raise blood pressure, a LOT b) there's a syndrome called "white coat syndrome", that's where patients have elevated blood pressure in medical settings due to their apprehension on seeing someone in a white coat (or just the general setting); doctors usually try to overcome this by not taking the blood pressure reading right away but chatting first -- this does not always suffice I suggest you record your blood pressure readings (along with the time,
Avatar m tn Hi Nick, In short, anything is possible and many meds mixing together certainly make it harder to know what is doing what. Norvasc appears to be for blood pressure normally and a list of drug interactions can be found here : http://www.rxlist.com/norvasc-drug.htm. I claim no knowledge except of what site to look at for this info. Much of it I wouldn't follow either but it will hopefully mean something to you.
2095551 tn?1333122531 Is there any other drug out there that will work the same way to open up small blood vessels like Norvasc but wont have the "bad swelling of legs and feet?" Anyone, please me know know, looking forward to hearing from you...
Avatar n tn I take 5mg Norvasc with 100 mg of a beta blocker(Lopressor) and Isosorbide (Nitrate) and Tricor every morning without any problems. But I am confused as to why Norvasc and Cardizem. They are both calcium channel blockers. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that. Have you talked to your pharmacist about any concerns?
572651 tn?1530999357 then tonight I went to take my medicine for my angina and a light went off in my brain --- I started a new drug, Norvasc (a calcium channel blocker) for my angina in mid-June. This just so happens to coincide with when my bladder took charge. Could there be a connection? I sure think so from what I have found on the web. Several sites list incontinence as a primary side effect of Norvasc for women. These sites though are more anecdotal and not fact based.
Avatar f tn I went back to cardio dr the next day and now he wants me to take Benicar, Norvasc and a small dose of the beta blocker plus my anxiety meds...all this for someone who he says has a normal heart? I am so confused. Also, I got a copy of all my records because I am getting a second opinion....and it reads that there is a trace mitral regurgitation, mild tricuspid regurgitation and the right ventricular systolic pressure is mildly elevated at 32.
Avatar f tn We usually start patients on long acting oral nitrates (imdur 30 mg daily) because it starts acting fast and then transition the patient to norvasc which takes about 4 days to work. In addition to the nitrates and the norvasc, we also use statins and antidepressants as well. The latter have been shown to help as well.
Avatar n tn I was on Norvasc but my Dr. changed to Cardizem, I have trouble swalloing and the Norvasc dissolved in my mouth quickly to make it easier to take, the Cardizem Er is a big capsule that is hard to take, should I ask my Dr to go back on Norvasc?? they both seem to work equally well....
Avatar f tn another thought it would be a good idea to reduce the tenormin to 50 mg and take 5 mg of Norvasc; and the third, suggested to gradually replace the tenormin by 5 mg Norvasc, and to be increased if needed, to 10 mg. Having read so much about Hypertension and its medications, I'm inclined towards the second opinion, i.e. 50 mg tenormin in combination with 5 mg Norvasc. However, I don't have a problem with the first opinion. My problem is with the third; I prefer to keep taking Tenormin.
Avatar f tn My bp soon came down to 90/70s. I was told to stop Norvasc and then Lopressor. I watched for a rebound but my bp and pulse were within a normal range for a few weeks without them. I continued to check my bp about every day. One day a relative said something very cruel to me at the exact moment I was taking my bp. My diastolic was 110, but systolic and pulse were normal. My diastolic wouldn't come down so I took Clonidine (as my dr had prescribed for an emergency.
Avatar f tn I am taking Amlodipine (Norvasc) 5mg and occasionally my legs and ankles (on both legs and never the leg itself) will swell to the point that my shoes will no longer fit, but the the swelling will go down for a while (a week, two weeks perhaps) until it happens again.
Avatar n tn I took it for about a month and began experiencing anxiety, depression and sadness, and panic attacks. I cut the dose down to 2.5mg. No problems now.
Avatar n tn it was discovered 10 weeks ago that i had a aneurysm on my ascending aorta 6.4 with a bicuspid aorta vavle. i had surgery 7 weeks ago st jude aorta valve dacron graft for ascending aorta. Four days after surgery i need a pacemaker due to the surgery. My question is there any long term risk or dangers of this that i should look out for. I take amiodarone (200mg) for a-fib that i developed after pacemaker surgery and celexa 20mg, zocor 20 mg. norvasc 5mg. coumadin 7.5mg m & w 5 mg.
Avatar f tn The doctors seem to chalk it all up to anxiety and push me out the door. I have been on Tenoretic 50 for at least 5 years now and my cardiologist told me to cut it in half because of my heart rate sometimes going into the 40s. My blood pressure increased as a result, so he added Norvasc 2.5mg which I am reluctant to take because of reading that in combination with a beta blocker it can cause heart failure. I also have slight LVH.
Avatar f tn All this HTN began as soon as the Norvasc and Metroprolol were discontinued and the Lorsartan 100mg and Atenolol 25mg were begun...now to only have the Norvasc added back but at 5mg versus 10mg! Can the HTN be dangerous for the new liver? Very worried. Thank you!
Avatar n tn Several years ago my doctor said I could go off it as I was on Norvasc and Diovan. Based on a 24 BP monitor, it was discerned I did not need the Atenolol. I was able to cut my dose to 25mg. but cannot get off it. I become irritable, jittery and have a short fuse. Recently, became a vegan and my BP has dropped so I tried to d/c the atenolol once again. Will I ever be able to get off this med. my BP is 101/60 just on 5 mg. of Norvasc.
Avatar f tn 1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?
Avatar f tn Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.
Avatar n tn I am also taking 10mg of Lexapro a day for anxiety. This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it? I know that Lexapro can cause tiredness as well, but my doctor seemed to think otherwise.
Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
404682 tn?1324579818 ER sent me home told me to take a norvasc when I got home then to start taking it in the AM. Next morning I felt awful so my GP told me stop norvasc and started me on clonidine.1mg but take only if bp is above 140. I was fine all week and then today mid morning another spike... 170/100 I waited about half an hour for it to come down on it's own and then took half a clonidine.
Avatar n tn i have blood pressure 116 over 72 angiogram shows no problem with cholesterol 2.5 on test. i have been given norvasc and lipitol ?
Avatar n tn The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers. However, in some cases of spastic angina, beta-blockers may be harmful.
Avatar m tn I asked him if there was a medication that is commonly combined with Atenolol, and he suggested the generic for Norvasc, 5mg. So I've been taking 5mg on top of my Atenolol for about a week, and I've actually noticed that my blood pressure has been a bit more elevated, not to mention I feel a bit crappy in general and anxious. I'm not sure if this is my body attempting to balance itself with the Norvasc but I never thought that it would make my blood pressure worse.
Avatar m tn 5mg of alprazolam(xanax)and 5mg norvasc for HBP Recently had a setback with driving and now more attacks. The xanax helps but still nervous about work. It seems as if maybe its time for a change ?
