Normal range for fasting blood glucose levels

Common Questions and Answers about Normal range for fasting blood glucose levels

blood-glucose

Avatar n tn between 70-126 is the number range that many doctors use. But this is for fasting glucose levels only. After meals, it is normal for glucose levels to rise above this, and the numbers quoted as 'normal' vary, depending on which doctor you talk to. I have read that a number of about 140-150 is considered healthy for after-meal sugar levels.
Avatar m tn of normal. Normal for fasting glucose level range is around 72 to 99 and up to 140 two hours after eating. https://www.medicinenet.com/normal_blood_sugar_levels_in_adults_with_diabetes/article.htm You sound within normal to me. Have you been concerned for any reason? Did you recently get this lab work done? Tell us more!
Avatar n tn In general, if your blood sugar level is below 100 mg / dL after fasting for at least 8 to 10 hours, then your blood sugar is normal. Blood sugar levels are usually lowest before each meal.
Avatar m tn But whenever i check the blood glucose levels with the glucometer, i find that the fasting values are not within the range of normal values viz 110 for fasting. but the post lunch levels always within the normal range of viz 140.The random levels always varies from 125 to 150. Kindly advise me whether i am diabetic and do i have to take medicine for diabetes?

This result is more than the range. What does it signify. We both hv stopped hving sugar n are on low carb diet and low fat diet. Are we on the verge of hving diabetes in the near future. Avatar f tn I am sure the doctor will get back to you, but you really have to make sure and show this to your child's doctor. I have learned that the blood sugars he is having are not normal and he needs to be seen tomorrow. He needs the follow up testing asap and needs an A1C test. This shows the average blood sugar over the last few months. It showed my daughter to have a glucose intolerance. Good Luck. Becky This is on the american diabetes association website.
Avatar f tn so is it normal to have fasting blood glucose levels that fluctuate from normal range to say 6 mmol (110mg/dl) and over right up to 7 mmol (140mg/dl) if you are pre-diabetic?
Avatar n tn the normal range is 70-110
Avatar n tn s good you posted and question your doctors attitude. Normal fasting glucose levels range from 60/70 to 99 mg/dl. As you can see you're three times above the normal range. If you didn't fast properly - meaning you had a small nibble on some food or sipped on colored liquids 8-10 hours prior to testing - your test results will be skewered. You also didn't mention what those "few other symptoms" were. An infection like a cold can skewer results too.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info and timely response.
Avatar n tn When you say, "I know that normal blood insulin levels should be 1-5 fasting", from what country? In the USA, normal blood insulin levels is 5-20 mcU/mL while fasting. Blood sugar (glucose) on the other hand is measure differently. Normally, the blood glucose level is maintained between about 4 and 8 mmol/L (70 to 150 mg/dL). The total amount of glucose in the circulating blood is therefore about 3.3 to 7g (assuming an ordinary adult blood volume of 5 liters).
Avatar m tn He has seen people with A1c levels of 6.5+ with normal glucose tolerance test, but not the other way around. My fructosamine levels are within normal range too. Needless to say, I am very depressed right now. Would love to hear any feedback.
Avatar n tn nt be surpised at all if your cholesterol numbers come way down once you get your thyroid balanced. Your glucose is so close to normal range. Test it at home if you have the things to do it. Take care.
Avatar n tn I would do two things; first, fasting test with another meter and with yours at the same time to see if yours is out of calibration; two, I would get an A1c test to verify normal glucose level. If the A1c results are normal, don't fret anymore.
Avatar n tn thanks for that but does not answer question about whether the level will increase or decrease from random(non fasting).
Avatar n tn s after a meal before their own bodies start producing extra insulin to bring those levels down. The range of 70-126 is considered normal before eating a meal, or as a fasting glucose level. So although the one test at slightly above 200 does seem suspect, one test alone is probably not something your doctor would base a diagnosis on.
Avatar m tn Dear Friends, I love building muscles so I have to consume lots of milk, proteins and carbohydrates for energy......? Today I got my Sugar levels tested but Fasting blood sugar is showing 105 where the range is 60 minimum to 110 max. PPBS and Glucose blood sugar GH1BC all are normal. Now i am worried as I am close to 110 in Fasting blood sugar ? how to reduce it further.......I do cardio for 30 minutes everyday with 10kms speed..5 kms per day...
Avatar f tn The A1c provides an insight on your past 2-3 month glucose levels. Red blood cells live on average 2-3 months. Excess glucose rides on new red blood cells, the A1c captures this and provides an estimated three month daily average. " If a result such as 5.8% translates into an "average daily" value of 120 mg/dL, how can 5.8% be considered normal?" An A1c of 5.8% equates to an eAG [estimated daily Average Glucose] of 120 mg/dl, key word is estimated.
Avatar f tn Does a persons age play a factor for their "normal" fasting glucose range? During my last visit to my 82 yo mother, I happened to see her test results that showed her fasting glucose range topping out at 180 mg. I, on the other hand, being 60 yo & under immunosuppressant meds have a range from 50 - 150 mg, yet I constantly hear the normal range is 70 - 120. Both of our blood samples are tested at the same lab too. So what is the "normal" fasting glucose range?
Avatar n tn Can someone tell me what a normal glucose level for a child is? For example a child has a small bowl of cereal and then is tested within an hour of that meal. This would be after having nothing else for the prior 12 or more hours. The reading was 144. Is that considered in a normal range?
514349 tn?1272801633 Blood tests last week - fasting glucose was 115 mg/dL. A1C was 5.6%. Does that mean pre-diabetes, diabetes, or neither?
1154802 tn?1266485720 What is the normal range for blood glucose fasting, 1 hour after eating and 2 hours after eating? I think mine might be a bit high...
Avatar f tn I have a fasting blood glucose level of 101 and 102 for several years now and have been taking diovan hct and excedrin. I know these drugs have the ability to raise blood sugar readings. Should I be concerned about these readings? If I get off these drugs will my levels return to normal?
Avatar f tn prediabetic range is 101-125 fasting and I believe 140-150 post prandial. Do you have a history in your family, child drink excessively or urinate frequently at night? Is there a reason you are checking blood sugars? Need to call pediatrician and might have an A1C test done.
Avatar n tn Every site seems to have different ranges for what is normal and abnormal with fasting or non-fasting levels. I am somewhat confused, last night before bedtime 5.5 hrs after my meal, I had one cup of soda or Dr. Pepper. Do you think that is pre diabetes or Diabetes type 2 if it was at 154 mg/dl or does it not count? I was also diagnosed pre diabetic of 108 mg/dl, fasting all day 3 weeks back. This morning before breakfast it was 70 mg/dl. Is that normal?
