I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily. I had asked her if she thought it was some sort of panic attack (I have no prior panic attacks) with really no response other than lets monitor for the next 3 months. Well it has been 3 weeks now and I have woken up at least 2 times a week w/ the same problem.
The day following she has zero sign of any issue and is 100% normal. She is on a quite a few meds, again same meds, same dose, same times every day. The *one* exception to this consistency is her one medication, Digoxin, which she takes every *second* day at 6pm. I have brought this up numerous times with her doctors and they seem to not be all that interested.
However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
I also do not know anything specific about Digoxin, but understand it is, or acts similarly to, a beta blocker. If that is the case, it likely lowers you BP which could cause both dizziness and fatigue.
It has been my experience with BB, that it takes months to adjust. I take Metoprolol to lower my HR which is driven by AFib. It helps, and in the beginning gave me a case of too low BP, but that has mostly gone away... my BP is now near normal, again.
There are individuals that have a heart rate that is lower than normal, and these individuals are in very good physical condition.

I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.

She's a dear family member who doesn't live in the states and her doctor didn't believe her when she described the episode. Luckily digoxin is OTC in her country, but she would not want to take it prophylactically due to potential side effects.

My Son was diagnosied (provisional diagnosis) of Viral Myocarditis when he was 2 weeks old and he was in ICU for 2 weeks (in Dec 2005) . When his condition became stabe he was discharged and was on medication - Carnitine, Lasix & Digoxin.
When he was 1 year old, echo revealed improved EF of 45-50% and Doctor stopped Lasix.
She had no chest pain, only palpitations and general weakness. She took 1 mg digoxin PO and eventually the episode resolved. Had two more similar episodes in the past year: tachy with normal BP brought on by exertion. EKG was normal the next day.

I'm 76 and have had 2 cardio versions. My cardio just took me off digoxin and started me on propafenone which is really making me sick. Do you ever adjust to it? I'm taking 225 mg twice a day.

I was diagnosed after my MRI came back normal, and my Lumbar puncture showed an opening pressure of 30. I was informed that I have swelling of my right optic nerve and do get headaches occasionally. I am 5-7" and weigh between 125 to 130 pounds. My opthalmologist prescribed Diamox ER 500mg twice daily for treatment.

I had a cardia ablation for atrial flutter on March 26. Supposedly it was a success, and I remained on 150mg daily of toprol xr and 1 tablet daily of digoxin.nwith that my pulse remained at rest between 57-65bpm with a high of 70bpm. I have short periods of feeling my heart race but it always reverts back and it's just a few seconds.
But today it did not go back, shot up to 107bpm briefly and has slowly increases from 91bpm to 95bpm.
i hev a question concerning digoxin....wat is its effect in the body. I mean its pharmacokinetic effects. i am having a hard time searching the net for it...
