Because i bit my nails most of my life but now after taking calcium and magnesium products from Usana my nails grow for the first time they are longer than ever, some how that has broken my compulsion to pick at them and bit them.
But i personalty think that nail biting is cause by anxiety and maybe a boredom thing and then becomes habit.
I impulsively bite my nails. Once i start, i cannot stop. If i have nailpolish on, i still bite them.... I also pick at my cuticles. This is bad. I usually pick both untill the bleed, or untill it hurts me to touch the tips of my fingers. I want pretty nails, and need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the days went on i could see the smiley faces next to all the dates i didnt bite on, and every week or so, or whenever i felt my nails where making progress i would take another photo and keep imagining what they are going to be like when they are pretty and healthy. Eventually after just over 6 weeks i completely removed the urge to bite my nails, i no longer feel uncomfortable talking to people or allowing them to see my hands.

I'm sure he's not biting - I've never seen him bite his nails (he's 8.5 yrs. old), his nails are even and have no bite/tear ridges, and his toes don't grow either, and he's not flexible enough to get to all his toes. I've asked him if he bites or picks at them and he says no. So def. no biting, they simply don't grow. It's weird.
I do the same thing mon. I don't ever bite my nails, but I bite the cuticles. I have tried to stop a countless number of times. I came to the conclusion after analyzing what reward the habit gave me (since our brain probably does things to its benefits) that its a security habit. The pain given keeps my mind occupied, and provides comfort (much like kids who carry around a blanket with them all the time). The only real way to stop is to be conscious of what you're doing.
I have never had nails. I cant peel an orange or pick up a quarter, biting is something I've always done. Whenever I see white it just has to go! ill bite my toes even. Whenever I had a professional job interview or college interview, my dad would always tell me "Make sure you sit on your hands!" even as hard as I would try I would always somehow subconsciously find my hand in my mouth.
I use to bite my nails untill I started to get what I guess was puss pocket under my nails and I stopped biting my nails but contineud to bite around my finger nails. Interestingly, when I was pregnant I stopped biting my nails. However, when I was no longer pregnant I began again. The nails come in stronger during pregnancy and I think hormones are involved in this somehow. I also find that if I cut out caffiene the biting can lessen a lot.

I find that if I get a ragged edge on my nail, I am completely unable to combat biting and of course that just makes it worse.

I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.
has anyone heard of "it works!" wraps, greens, and hair skin and nails product? My mom bought me the hair skin and nails to try because i have a wedding in november, but i am breastfeeding. So my question is, has anyone taken this product while breastfeeding? or know if its okay to take while breastfeeding? I was meaning to ask my doctor when i brought my little one in for a check up but it totally slipped my mind..
