nitrostat

Avatar m tn I am told that Doctors in USA prescribe Sorbitrate to the Ischaemic patients and also for senior citizens. Is it true. If so will you suggest me to keep sorbitrate, if so what is the minima dosage i have to kept. Please excuse me for having taken your valuable time.
Avatar m tn It's a medication used for Heart Failure Patients......Comes in pill form or spray......My husband uses it & I'm very careful to watch that it is never around the dogs! Just in Case!!!!
Avatar n tn The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers.
572651 tn?1530999357 My bp is also low - averages 90/60 but the nitro is for the angina which is not bp related. I find it really knocks me out for a while after I get over the headache ..... If my pain is really MS related and not cardio related, I'm wondering what the nitro is really doing.............
Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
Avatar n tn There is also a potential for cardiac risk during sexual activity in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease. Therefore, Penegra should NOT be used in men where sexual activity is inadvisable because of their underlying cardiovascular status. The use of Penegra offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. Patients should continue to use protective measures necessary to guard against these diseases.
Avatar n tn Depending on how long the spasm last, one can have a heart attack related to it. This is why patients with this condition should always carry nitroglycerin with them at all times.
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar n tn Yes I would suggest a left heart catheterization to further evaluate you for the presence of severe obstructive atherosclerosis. Apart from this you should be on maximal medical therapy including beta blockers, ace inhibitors, aspirin and plavix as well as a statin. Is you heart function preserved after the heart attack? It is possible that your shortness of breath is secondary to systolic dysfunction and not only pneumonia.
503418 tn?1231098736 I really am not sure if that would indicate a heart problem...I can tell you from my experience after having a heart attack...That for me the pain was so severe, and wasn't just on one side...It was more like an elephant standing on my chest, and i couldn't breath..the pain was constant..I would go see your cardiologist just to be sure..good luck ...
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar m tn They witnessed the artery in spasm, injected nitroglycerin, and the artery calmed down. The heart itself was clean, and no major blockages where found requiring stents or further work. But I do know the the spasms occur not just at rest but after exercise, thus the conundrum as far as definitions go. Is there something like unstable variant angina and if so is that different from unstable angina? I.e. does unstable angina always refer to the heart rather than the arteries contracting?
805943 tn?1238093647 Nitro can help some forms of esophageal spasm. Nitroglycerin is used with esophageal spasms (GERD). It is the one non heart related illness that nitroglycerin works in. However, that doesn't rule out a concomitant heart condition. Nitroglycerin is a vasodilator not only for your heart vessels but for the vascular system which then subsquently lowers your blood pressure. It even dilates the vessels in the brain which then usually gives the side effect of the headache also.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor as you may be a good candidate for a low dose nitroglycerin patch which opens the coronary vessels to increase oxygen supply to the heart. How are you currently managing your COPD? What medications and inhalers are you using? are you on home O2?
Avatar n tn Nitroglycerin can also relieve esophageal spasm, it's not reliable for differential diagnosis of cardiac vs GI origin for chest pain. I've been through this recently myself and don't have any answers either. Nitro (sublingual) sometimes helped and sometimes didn't. Then on Friday I had a stress echo, my second in six months, again definitely negative. I'm also on Prevacid so my cardiologist doesn't think it's GI related but he also doesn't think it's cardiac.
Avatar f tn As anyone had the stress test the two parts myacardial perfusion scan after 4 weeks the cardiologist sent a prescription for asprin , isosirbide monitrate, amlodipine antrovastatin said my scan was 15% what does this mean is this not too bad medium or high risk don’t see him for another 2 months sldo can I have a few drinks on them as Iv not had a drink I just wondered people on these meds if they have a few drinks now n again thank you in advance x
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
Avatar m tn m a 45 year old otherwise healthy male and have moderate restrictive lung disease that is more or less stable for the past 8 years. The reason I saw this cardiologist was the recurring chest pain that I was having (not because of shortness of breath as he indicates here!). The pain is still there together with light headedness and goes away if I take nitroglycerin (thought I know that nitroglycerin would relieve essentially any kind of chest pain).
Avatar f tn The pain was unbearable and she was the very first to take nitroglycerin, and then nifedipin. .Nitroglycerin helped her sometimes , and only for weak attacks , sometimes with the help of nifedipine average , but did not act with strong attacks. In autumn 2010, she was discharged from the metoprolol tachycardia episodes of pain in the left lower jaw became less frequent .
Avatar n tn Pain in the upper back can be a symptom of heart disease. The possibility is more because this pain is getting relieved by nitroglycerin. I would suggest you to consult your doctor as soon as possible about it and get yourself evaluated. Take care!
