Nitrate tolerance is when the body builds up a tolerance to the medicine so that it no longer has its desired effect. People taking nitrate-containing medications generally follow a 12 hours on, 12 hours off schedule to avoid this tolerance.
The only sympton he has had with the placing of the stents was Chest Pressure, no other symptoms. The same with his recent heart catherization was chest pressure. In the ER he was given 2 nitroglycerin, 5 minutes apart, the chest pressure went away after the 2nd nitroglycerin.
Does any good specialist in cardiology think that my husband should have the open heart surgery for bypasses considering the risks regarding his age, his diabetes?

The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers.
If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
I took your advice and had the heart catheterization. The doctor said the left heart was okay but found a narrowing in the right heart which caused coronary spasms during the test. IV nitroglycerin during the test stopped the spasms and dilated the vessel. He did not mention any other problems and recommended sublingual nitroglycerin to treat the spasms as they occur.
It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). I have had several fingers freeze up and not want to come out of the attacks for hours and that causes the nail splentors and i even had a bad infection in one finger. I was sent to a rhumotologist to be dianosed with CREST. Sorry about the spelling!
I started the nitro glycerin patches about 3 weeks ago at 0.1 dose and stayed on that for 3 weeks and now i'm on the next step up 0.
Since last few days I am observing that when I get up in the morning my tongue is coated white. I clean the tongue with a tooth brush and the white coating disappears and the tongue remains in natural pink colour throughout the day. Secondly, there is a small crack in the middle forefront of the tongue. My age is 81 years. I am not diabetic and my blood pressure is normal.
I was under enormous stress when the pains started and the fear that it was cardiac in origin added to it. I had the nitroglycerin sublingual tablets. I took them, sometimes they helped, other times they didn't. To this day I have no definitive answer as to the cause of my pains, but they seem to have subsided for the past 6-7 months. Try the nitro and see if it helps. My guess is that it won't help indigestion, but would if it was due to vasospasm or other cardiac cause.
s also worth remembering that if you suffer from side effects it is quite likely that you are taking too large a dose and reducing your dosage will reduce the side effects or even remove them altogether.

As anyone had the stress test the two parts myacardial perfusion scan after 4 weeks the cardiologist sent a prescription for asprin , isosirbide monitrate, amlodipine antrovastatin said my scan was 15% what does this mean is this not too bad medium or high risk don’t see him for another 2 months sldo can I have a few drinks on them as Iv not had a drink I just wondered people on these meds if they have a few drinks now n again thank you in advance x
What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin?
I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do.
And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
I had angiography a couple of days ago. Here is doctor's note.
"His ECG shows that he has a right bundle branch block configuration. A Persantine MIBI scan showed evidence of ischemia. He had a pulmonary function test which showed moderate interstitial lung disease. The patient was brought in and catheterized by myself to exclude any possibility that his shortness of breath may have any cardiac component to it. He had grade I LV function with a normal RCA, LAD, and circumflex.
The doctors say there is nothing they can do for her and that everything looks good and she will have to live with the pain. The doctors just did an ECG and say all is good. Is this possible? She is on constant Nitroglycerin and Morphine prn. Should she get a second opinion? What other procedures could she have done to take away this pain? She says the pain is getting more frequent and stronger. Thank you for your responses.
Will I just eventually get use to just taking a nitro pill when I feel chest discomfort and going on with my life? As I also mentioned before, the CAD diagnosis in 7/2008 gave me a panic disorder “when I was 15, I seen my Dad die in front of me from a heart attack when he was 44.”
So anytime I have gotten chest pain in the past 1 ½ years I immediately think I am about to die.
