It's a medication used for Heart Failure Patients......Comes in pill form or spray......My husband uses it & I'm very careful to watch that it is never around the dogs! Just in Case!!!!
Patients who are taking medications for lung problems, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure and Persantine may need to alter their medications.
The doctors just did an ECG and say all is good. Is this possible? She is on constant Nitroglycerin and Morphine prn. Should she get a second opinion? What other procedures could she have done to take away this pain? She says the pain is getting more frequent and stronger. Thank you for your responses.

First of all - I have experienced Pulmonary Edema on 2 serious occasions in '08. Both - life threatening..........the second - so life threatening that I experienced Respiratory Failure at my local hospital and had to be airlifted to the central hospital here in Maine. I was put in a coma and was not expected to live. I am a 58 y.o. male with an Ejection Fraction of 10-15% since '03.
If the heartworm was negative, they were going to start her on nitroglycerin and lasix to bring her heart rate down.
They suggested I take to to an emergency clinic tonight so she can be seen by a cardiologist tomorrow.
If they do administer the nitro and lasix, what more can the E.C. do overnight while waiting for the cardiologist. And furthermore, what more will the cardiologist do after the ultrasound confirms the congestive heart failure, after she is already on the medication?
My husband is 76 years old. He had a heart catherization recently and was found to have several blocked arteries. He had 2 stents put in 2011. Are the risks too great for my husband at his age with insulin dependent diabetes for 19 years to have open heart surgery?
His cardiologist so far has put him a medication regimen to try to help with his blocked arteries.
The only sympton he has had with the placing of the stents was Chest Pressure, no other symptoms.
The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers.
Stopping Nitroglycerin Patch suddenly may cause serious, possibly life-threatening, WITHDRAWAL symptoms, including chest pain and heart attack. Having a nitrate-free period each day will help prevent tolerance, dependence, and withdrawal problems.

It is recommended to have a free period from a nitrate!. I take sublingual nitro occassionally and nitrate pill 3 times a week for many years.
I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs.
I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low. So I stopped using my nitroglycerin for about 48 hours so I can take the Viagra.
This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. If you use Nitroglycerin Patch without a break and then suddenly stop using it, you may get WITHDRAWAL symptoms. No high bp but may include chest pain, heart attack, or possibly sudden death. Be sure to have a "nitrate-free" period of time each day; this may help prevent dependence and withdrawal problems".

Myocardial infarction pain is characteristically crushing retrosternal chest pain which may move to arms, shoulder, neck, teeth, jaw, belly area or back. This can be squeezing, lasting for 20 minutes. Rest and nitroglycerin may help relieve the pain to some extent. Other symptoms are anxiety, cough, dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath etc. your doctor would like to check the cardiac enzymes like troponin and CPK, CPK MB.
Whether someone survives depends on how much heart tissue is damaged from the attack and whether another heart attack follows soon after the first one.
I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. It's always a shock. Sometimes we get warnings about heart problems and can take the proper medications and change things in our life. Other times it strikes without warning.
I have had angioplasty done 5 months ago and now I am on heart related medicines Nitroglycerin, Clopidogrel+Ecosporin and Atorvastatin. I wear artificial denture. Last month I had surgery for cataract in my eye. My evacuation system is working fine, although sometimes I miss a day or two. I do not take any medication for this and the bowl movement becomes regular on its own. I want to know the reason for white coating on my tongue and the crack in it.
During a recent hospital stay where I was being treated for the Congestive Heart Failure and hypertension, I was put on fairly high doses of nitroglycerin and hydralazine and lasix. At some point during the stay I started having these unbelievably strong heart palpatations. My heart rate began to exceed 90 beats per minute and would drum like a mighty army in my head.
A congenital heart murmur and anomolous right coronary artery (pinched between my aorta and pulmonary artery, attached to the bottom left side of my heart.
Discovered in '00 (52 years young at the time) was told I had a "runner's heart" and yes, I could keel over immediately. Right mammary artery CABG was discovered to be totally occluded after 6 months.
I was under enormous stress when the pains started and the fear that it was cardiac in origin added to it. I had the nitroglycerin sublingual tablets. I took them, sometimes they helped, other times they didn't. To this day I have no definitive answer as to the cause of my pains, but they seem to have subsided for the past 6-7 months. Try the nitro and see if it helps. My guess is that it won't help indigestion, but would if it was due to vasospasm or other cardiac cause.
