Nitroglycerin and angina pectoris

Common Questions and Answers about Nitroglycerin and angina pectoris

nitrostat

Avatar m tn Nitro relaxes and dilates vessels, and very good for angina. But can also be used for esophageal spasms, this pain is often described as a substernal squeezing pain and may occur in association with exercise. Such pain may be indistinguishable from angina pectoris. Esophageal spasms are often difficult to treat, and controlled studies of treatment methods are lacking. The aim of treatment is to relieve symptoms by decreasing pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter.
Avatar f tn are some few examples) have a large body of evidence in morbidity and mortality benefits (fewer symptoms and disability and live longer) and short-acting nitroglycerin medications are used for symptomatic relief of angina. Isosorbide mononitrate and nicorandil are vasodilators commonly used in chronic stable angina.
572651 tn?1530999357 Hi Lulu I recommend you join the thisisms forum and chek the latested discoveries and studies, related to MS as being a vascular problem and in particular the jugular veins being blocked, so no wonder why nitroglycerin is helping you.
Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
Avatar m tn Can be anything. From psychosomatic to angina pectoris. Post more details please.
Avatar n tn , acute MI, unstable angina, thoracic aortic dissection, tension pneumothorax, esophageal rupture, pulmonary embolism) are immediately life threatening. Some (e.g., angina pectoris, pericarditis, myocarditis, pneumothorax, pneumonia, pancreatitis, various thoracic malignancies) are potentially life threatening.
Avatar m tn Angina pectoris can be very subtle and one is hardly aware, and it can be excruciating. Some people don't experience any pain with identical occlusions that cause some to have the chest pain, etc. I think the appropriate response on a scale of 1-10 the pain can be within the given range and different parts of the upper torso and jaw. . Thanks for your question.
Avatar f tn Before skeletal muscle fatigue can be the cause of angina pectoris there requires substantial depletion of oxygenated blood and skeletal muscles burn calories for energy and that DIFFERS from the source of energy for the heart which is oxygen (the aorta output from the left ventricle has direct input to the heart). I don't see the mechanism of fatigue causing ischemia (lack of adequate blood flow) to heart cells!. It seems to me fatigue, SoB, chest pain, etc.
Avatar f tn it was not caused by a blockage but by vaso-spasms related to unstable angina and I was placed on medications to try to manage this. (As per the Hospital Cardiologist after a heart cath) One of the meds I was given was sublingual nitroglycerin and I have had to use it many times so far (I only use it when the chest pains last longer than 20-30 minutes or get really bad).
Avatar n tn i have been on tablets for angina for a week and wondered when i would start feeling better and could do normal thiings and go back to work thank you
Avatar n tn my copd is bad at moment i had a cup of coffee at 4 30 this morning and i started to eve and i got chesing pain witch sent tinging down my arms and vagunal and legs didnt last long is it anything to worry about
Avatar n tn According to studies done cardiomyopathy, angina pectoris, pericardial effusion, supraventricular arrhythmias, vasculitis, and myocardial infarction have been reported in less than or equal to 1% of patients receiving therapy. Regards.
1425157 tn?1311651679 I do. I used to believe the attacks were "angina", but basically in my case they are tense muscles in the back that cause a chain reaction of tension. travels down my left arm to my left pinkie finger and the left of my chest too. I am seeing a chiropractor at the moment because i have a small problem with my spine. He says the tension originates in that spot. Starting sports and seeing i can do it without a problem has made me confident I don't have angina pectoris.
Avatar f tn Several gastrointestinal tract disorders, particularly those arising in the esophagus, are established causes of chest pain that may resemble angina pectoris in all respects, including location and radiation, quality, and relief with nitroglycerin.
Avatar m tn You can be treated for pectoris angina with a nitrate. This medication dilates corornary vessels and relieves any pain due to vessel stenosis. There is a fast acting nitrate that relieves angina quickly (nitro) and a slower nitrate that is effective for a longer period of time.
Avatar m tn I related to inflammation of the mucous membranes of the throat, and merely making a distinction of the chest pains related angina pectoris, GERD, burning sensation in the throat, etc. and throat pain association with an infection throat membranes. Vincent's Angina ia an acute necrotizing infection of the pharynx. Sometimes called Plaunt's angina.
Avatar n tn Atenolol is beta blocker and used to treat high blood pressure, and can also be used to prevent angina pectoris....chest pain due to lack of blood flow to an area of the heart because of occluded vessels. The mechanism for the treatment is to relax blood vessels and maintain a stable heart rate. Many individuals and that includes myself take an ACE inhibitor (lisinopril) and beta blocker (coreg), and nitrate as needed for chest pain. If atenolol prevents angina, then it is beneficial for you.
Avatar m tn Has the doctor diagnosed unstable angina pectoris....this would be chest pain due to an insufficient supply of blood to the heart cells. It seems if the 70% blockage of vessels would have been stented if the cardiologist believed that is/was a source of the chest pain. Usually, with angina, the chest pain occurs when there is some rigorous activity and relief with rest. I'm not familiar with Indor, but a nitrate has helped me for the past 7 years for angina.
Avatar n tn I take a nitrate medication prior to going to workout 3 times a week and that prevents any angina from the circumflex. The nitrate dilates the coronary vessels and the improved blood flow prevents any angina pectoris. There is a period of time for restnosis of an implant up to about a year with drug eluded stents. To help prevent restenosis from a blood clot, plavix medication is recommended for up to a year or more due to the vulnerabiility.
Avatar f tn You have classic symtoms of angina pectoris and that indicates your heart cells are not receiving a good supply of oxygenated blood possibly due to occluded vessel(s), etc. Your gtn spray should elevate the pain if it is anagina, regardless you should get immediate medical attention to avoid any permanent damage to heart cells....even if the there is relief from pain see your doctor as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn Nitro relaxes and dilates vessels for both pectoris angina (heart) and esophageal angina. Symptoms are almost identical, and it is difficult to differentiate the two conditions. Nitro can relieve shoulder pain and the condition may not be heart related.
